I wish I could express directly to Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo how much I appreciated this William cameo moreso the entire Nioh universe and the people that created it. This part of the game where William showed up gave me major goosebumps as well as many other moments of the game like when Hideyoshi as a name was given to Hide and Tokichiro by Nobunaga. The atmosphere, the music, the character and level design, art style, everything is so flawless I can’t really think of any negatives. Nioh is my #1 favorite game on the entire ps4 platform and I look forward to the next one. If somehow someone who was involved in making this game sees this.. thank you so much for your hard work on creating one of the most masterfully crafted games of all time. I’m a fan of Nioh on a very emotional level truly.
I'm also in the same boat, as I LOVE Japanese History, especially Sengoku Jidai. Kessen 3 started my love for this era and I have always looked up to Oda Nobunaga. I never understood why everyone painted him as a villain in all the other games but I love how Nioh 2 depicts him as the ambitious unifier he was. Nioh 1 also paid respects to that when u beat him and he decided that his time was over. Amazing story telling and amazing games!!!
@TakeGames you nailed it right on the head there. The entire William entrance and the story thereafter sent me into overdrive. It was so damn cool experiencing the time jump fighting alongside my previous character. Absolutely agree with you on all points.
Honestly, these two games have been so refreshing to me, and seeing William was awesome. Would be cool if they gave us an optional boss fight against him where he's wearing your gear from the first game and has the build you had, after all, Nioh 2 already detects that you have Nioh 1 data. My only issue is that I don't know where they can go from here. We've already went through the most important moments in Japanese History, with Oda, Hideyoshi's, and Ieyasu's rise to power, and unifying Japan, and then we had all the loose ends like the Yukimura, and Toyotomi clan, along with Date Masamune and his forces. And then finally with Maria and Otakemaru in Nioh 2. Just hard to think where the series can go from here, perhaps we take it even farther back in Nioh 3?
Everything about this fight was fantastic. The music, the combat, William's Living Weapon use... I even love the additional touch of the camera angle when locked on to William to make him seem taller and more intimidating than he normally would be. The best part is how this is a fight between two deathless warriors: one immortality granted by a blessed blade and the other's granted due to sheer faith he holds in his Guardian Spirit. I was beside myself in the hype!
I wish the fight was longer and william wasn't so hampered by the human ki system in this game though. He really feels like he can't block as long as he should be able to or effectively dodge :( Human enemies really just get punished by getting brute forced. making him invincible in living weapon was a nice touch if they used it more. I'm hoping a NG++ fight or remix quest really delivers and lets us go his entire health bar
That's a real good valid complaint in both games, tbh. Human bosses were made more difficult in Nioh 2 with some anti-cheese reactions, but they can still be so easily cheesed.
I wish this fight is bit harder and longer, when we fight him we are at almost late stage playthrough, our gear easily outstand him and makes this fight too short, plus battle ends when his HP hits 30%. I wish he have more Ki and use his Katana counter more often, so we can stuck with him and hear this godly bgm over and over.

That's why Fumihiko Yasuda (Producer and Director of the series) already satisfied with just 2 Nioh games and having no further plan to make Nioh 3, because this is the climax of his planned Nioh franchise when both of the Protags meet.
completed the game and was so cool fighting William and how they connected the first and second game. Going to be quite interesting what they do with the dlc for this game.

I was originally kinda bummed when I thought Koji was the end. Boy, oh boy, did the game end strong. I didnt think they'd have a William fight but I was wrong, and so glad for it. My boy Tokichiro got his redemption, too.

Though I do hope he is mentioned in the DLC, with the Protagionist actually showing remorse, or sadness because of his passing.
Godslayer 5658 you could see how much remorse Hide felt the first time they were forced to kill Tokichiro. Remember how they used only the necessary amount of force to stop him? Before reverently kneeling down and closing his eyes. Tokichiro was the closest thing to a friend Hide knew because he didn’t once judge them for their yokai blood. The same can be said of Nobunaga as well. He accepted Hide because they showed loyalty and strength

I mainly meant at the end of the game, when Tokichiro has left the plain of existence for good, and the Protagonist and Mumyo may never see him again, if they do decide to remain immortal, and not pass on their duties. Like they were at the cherry blossom tree where ti all started at the ending cutscene. But yeah, I do remember, just sucks he had to go, even if I understand it. But who knows... maybe this truly isn't the last we've seen of him. And yeah, he definitely is the best character, starting out as a rather poor, but kind hearted, and ambitious merchant, then to as an honorable samurai by Nobunaga's side, though soon he comes to betray his master, though still feeling conflicted on if he should to do, and truly use the spirit stones. Then it seems the Protagionist leaving, and turning against him final pushed him over the edge. Then he goes further over the edge when Kashin revives him, until finally coming to his senses right before his death, and being redeemed when he helps his friend get through otakemaru, and finally finding peace, and moving on, not as the Hideyoshi, or the Toyotomi, but as the simple merchant, we knew him as, Tokichiro.

I've never played the first Nioh, but I got the 2nd one to play through it with my brother. That being said, I remember all of the stuff he shared from the first game, and this part of the game felt like i was fighting the character he played back then, it was nostalgic for no reason other then that, even though I had never played as, or really knew much about William. This was a really well designed part of the game.
Imagine if they had added a DLC to Nioh 1 you get for free if you own Nioh 2 and it's a mission of William traversing Byodo-In until he reaches Hide and you have to fight them as William.

There is a quest in the second DLC of the first game, called "Art Imitates Life", where you had to save to save a painter lost on the Osaka Siege's battlefield. You couldn't save him in the end, but, you could obtain a painting that he drew right before passing away. Amongst the possibile results, you could obtain a painting (the rarest of the bunch) called "The Gilded Nioh", which represented "a golden-haired samurai fighting demons" and released "an aura of purity". The "Darkened" Nioh one instead, is because during the fight with William, Hide is supposedly not himself, attacking due to Otakemaru's influence inside him.

I think they are meant to be blonde but, they chose such a light tonality that it basically looks gray, which is a shame since it makes William look WAY older than it should! XD
I kinda wish that the fight was the player controlling William to fight the main character, would have been sick. It would also make sense plot wise as the main character was possessed by the demon. I understand that it could be confusing and difficult to execute though.
In all honesty, I was NOT expecting William to show up for a while since the game was a prequel. Maybe at best at the game's end when the story was finished (I was almost right). But dammit, it was awesome and this theme is perfect for him! He is a samurai through and through!

The best way to fight against him. Do not using anything that gives you an advantage. if you guard break him do nothing let the fight go on. This is imo a really amazing fight and a really amazing moment in the game. When I first fought him I was like are you telling me we are literally in a sequel now?!
I’m not sure I was the only one who noticed but for me when he pulled out his spear, and it was Sakon’s spear, I was beside myself cause I also used the Sakon set in Nioh one cause he was my favorite character besides Tokugawa and Masanari (The third Hanzo). Although I’m not sure of the story implications of him using Sakon’s spear, maybe that fighting and meeting Sakon is the moment when William started becoming a true samurai? Idk but still love that detail.
Not really, Sakons spear was given to Willliam after you defeat Sakon, he says in cutscene you can keep his spear, so William did so. And the katana was probably meant to be Raikiri but devs decided William would be too strong with two weapons that deal heavy lighting damage, so they gave him the original one you get at the start of the game (New blood).
Question: Would William or Hide be aware of the other's immortality? Like we know the rules of each are shared, it's just that the sources are different. So would they be aware of the quantum reset of the universe or would they be as unaware as anyone else about each other and just both be OP as hell all the time?
give it time, there are probably a lot of players that'll be asking TN to give him a real, full fight when the DLCs drop. hopefully if it happens he'll have more weapons/skills and not be so easy to cheese like every other human enemy

There's theories about her owning a piece of the sword that can slay Yokai, which doesn't make sense since it's nowhere mentioned that it would grant immunity to aging and she gave it to Hide. Honestly, it's really just that the devs didn't want to age the female sidekick, because she'd stop being attractive. lol
I really wish they made Wiliiam a really hard boss, ALL the bosses was so easy, when Willian appears I was thinking, ow this gona be hard, At least Otakemaru is hard
@Matriones Kato, Raiken, Enki, and Atlas Bear, i liked Fujishi, Genbu, Saiorse myself. Paired Raiken is pretty cool to though the tale behind it is kind of sad, and ....had me indignant....Genichiro wouldn't have been so untoward if her lord had told her that he suspected something was wrong ( Hideyosi's forcing himself on Genichrio.) or what ever her name is. But that's why these games hold more promise to me than Dark Souls. The amount of history told ( minus certain mentionings) is astounding.

Although I’m not sure of the story implications of him using Sakon’s spear, maybe that fighting and meeting Sakon is the moment when William started becoming a true samurai? Idk but still love that detail.
Not really, Sakons spear was given to Willliam after you defeat Sakon, he says in cutscene you can keep his spear, so William did so. And the katana was probably meant to be Raikiri but devs decided William would be too strong with two weapons that deal heavy lighting damage, so they gave him the original one you get at the start of the game (New blood).
I need the looped version in the last mission. That soundtrack is dope.

Question: Would William or Hide be aware of the other's immortality? Like we know the rules of each are shared, it's just that the sources are different. So would they be aware of the quantum reset of the universe or would they be as unaware as anyone else about each other and just both be OP as hell all the time?
I feel like William would have picked up on Hide's immortality pretty easily, but I can't say I'd expect Hide to figure William's out on their own.

You need to play nioh 1. It set the foundation for nioh 2 and William as a character

give it time, there are probably a lot of players that'll be asking TN to give him a real, full fight when the DLCs drop. hopefully if it happens he'll have more weapons/skills and not be so easy to cheese like every other human enemy

Idk honestly. It’s weird too cuz tokichiro and nobunaga actively age through the story but mumyo doesn’t literally at all. Also the fact that the cac literally disappears for years at a time and you come back and she’s the exact same. Idk maybe it’s the sword guard she has that makes her not age

There's theories about her owning a piece of the sword that can slay Yokai, which doesn't make sense since it's nowhere mentioned that it would grant immunity to aging and she gave it to Hide. Honestly, it's really just that the devs didn't want to age the female sidekick, because she'd stop being attractive. lol

@Matriones Kato, Raiken, Enki, and Atlas Bear, i liked Fujishi, Genbu, Saiorse myself. Paired Raiken is pretty cool to though the tale behind it is kind of sad, and ....had me indignant....Genichiro wouldn't have been so untoward if her lord had told her that he suspected something was wrong ( Hideyosi's forcing himself on Genichrio.) or what ever her name is. But that's why these games hold more promise to me than Dark Souls. The amount of history told ( minus certain mentionings) is astounding.
