I have fallen in love again with these episodes and Paula herself. These are like an old blanket you found in the closet and absolutely need but didn’t know you missed. So comforting, relaxing, sweet and useful. Just wonderful! Thank you so much, Paula, for being on TH-cam.
Never thought I would see this cake made on tv much less on Paula Deen’s show! This was the first cake I ever made and I made it each year for the holidays growing up. My mother told me to pick a recipe from her cook book and this is what I made!
Paula, every time you add eggs, I think of that time on tv when the dish dropped into the mixer.......I still 😂. One of the best moments on tv...thanks....about 15 years ago.....
Oh my word....!! I love coconut cakes !! They remind me of my Granny . She would make them every Christmas and she would make 6 or 7 thin layers of cake . She would make her homemade icing too and put it on a cake platter just like this one you used Miss Paula . She also put hers in the refrigerator . Boy... those were some delicious cakes !! Jamie sure is lucky to have a mama that will bake him his favorite cake every year for his birthday . I'm sure you always made your son's birthday's very special too . 🎂❤❤❤
Now that's a TRUE Coconut Cake! People don't realize the difference this frosting makes. You called it Divinity frosting but it's also like 7 Minute frosting. When you've had this one, you'll never be satisfied with cream cheese icing on a coconut cake. The filling must take this right over the top. My husband doesn't like coconut but you can bet the next time we have company I'm making this one! ☺
this cake recipe is on the back of Swans Down cake flour box, (only the cake not the icing) the difference is, she uses self-rising, Swans Down calls for baking powder and salt. I've Made it many times and it is so moist and delicious. may try her filling, it looks tasty
HELLO PAULA 😊! MY SWEET MAMA TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAKE THE 1-2-3-4 CAKE WHEN I WAS VERY YOUNG 😊💝. ALSO THE 7 MINUTE FROSTING. THEN WE ADDED THE COCONUT JUST LIKE YOU DID 🎂💝! NOW SOMETIMES SHE WOULD ADD SOUR CREAM IN HER FROSTING INSTEAD OF WATER & THAT WAS AWESOME ALSO 💝 & I AGREE! IT IS ONE OF THE BEST CAKE'S I'VE EVER HAD & I LOVE YOU FOR KEEPING & SHARING THIS OLD RECIPE WITH ALL OF US, OUR CHILDREN & OUR GRANDCHILDREN 🎂😊💝😘! MAY GOD ALWAYS CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU SWEET LADY 🙏✝💝!!!
Thanks so much for this recipe it's the only one I use and everyone loves this cake and tell them I love Paula Deen she helped me to smile when I was so sick.
The 7 minute frosting is a old fashioned recipe. Just don't make it on a rainy damp day. That was my grandmother s advice. She made the best walnut divinity.
I’m not the most proficient cook, but I’ve been looking for a cocanut cake recipe I might be able to replicate. I believe I’ve found it in this, many thanks. BTW I a couple nights ago, watched your video of your kitchen redo on the Savannah house you’ve updated. It’s awesome.
I like these old videos. Paula seems so different then. No big hair, and tons of make-up. More toned down and natural, even her accent wasn't as pronounced.
Her accent and her cackling laugh has gotten heavier in the new videos and you would think she would be more reserved. The production crew and the Food Network probably kept het toned down.
Divinity Icing: Egg whites Sugar 1/4 tsp Cream of tartar pinch of salt Water Beat for one minute Use Double boiler method and beat for 7 minutes Add vanilla extract
I really hope this question will be answered ! I made this cake and it is delicious so I plan to make it again this Christmas but there was a problem I encountered. After frosting, I put it in the fridge Christmas morning until ready to serve that afternoon and the 7 minutes frosting had become loose and was sliding off the cake. It looked just like hers in the beginning but after a few hours in fridge it was a mess and ugly! How do I avoid this again? Should 7 minute frosting not be put in the fridge?
my family loves cream cheese frosting but this looks like it spreads easier but i’m curious what this type of frosting taste like...is it like the whipped frosting?
Wow! I really want to make this! One question....while it sits in the fridge for 3 days, can it sit inside one of those plastic cake holders that has a lid?
Yes. My mother always put her cake like this in a Tupperware (air-tight) cake container. She called the process "ripening the cake" and she also let it sit in the fridge for three days. By the way, the frosting is called "seven minute frosting" and it is used on other cakes as well without the coconut flakes. This is a very good cake.
I want to do this cake, and I have the recipe down pat......but the icing is sugar, sour cream, coconut, and milk..........how much of each of the 4 things I the icing? Does it matter- I kept playing it and trying to guess on the amounts of he 4 items in the icing.....I also am glad to find a cake that can be made with self rising flour......hope I heard that right..........anyone know how much of the 4 icing ingredients please ????????
As for the filling, I kind of eyeballed it the first time I made this cake, based on my observation in this video. 1/2 cup of sugar 1/4 cup of sour cream 1/3 cup of coconut 2 tbsp of milk

Does it have to stay in the refrigerator for three days before eating? What if it’s just overnight?
I saw both simplicity and gourmet...This looks to die-for!
She did another one that has measurements about a year ago
I love these videos! So relaxing to watch after a difficult day.
Relaxing! I was wondering why I love them so.
Love you Paula always have...your an amazing woman. We are so lucky you share your passion with us. Much love
Oh what a beautiful so white coconut cake....i love coconut 🤗
I've never seen divinity frosting before. Can't wait to give it a try.
I can’t WAIT to try this icing because I’ve been looking for a go to icing that can go with just about any cake!!
Thank you 🙏
Blast from the past. Delicious.
I’d put the yummy filling on the layer first then over top a thin layer of frosting as a glue. Yum 😋
Breathtaking Cake 🧁 Yummy 😋
instead of refrigerating the cake , I put it in freezer a few hours. It does the same thing and comes out so moist.
My mom always made the seven minute icing.. I loved it as a child growing up!’💚💚

I love this recipe, but I prefer a pineapple filling. So I might add some crushed pineapple to the filling.

Is the icing regular crystal sugar or powdered?
I have a cookbook of hers and it just says sugar so I tried to find it online. It is regular crystal sugar!
How much coconut milk and self-rising flour do we need?
I made this, its delicious
