mossman381 I done mine twice and still have a leak put new valve cover gaskets there also known for exhaust bolts breaking I had to replace 4 on one side 3 driver side but can not see where it’s coming from did the corners with sealer can anyone help me
One of the best rtv sealants I've ever used is Hondabond. Costs more than standard etc but that stuff will seal anything. Especially good in its adhesion to rubber, meaning it's very effective at sealing those corners where block meets covers, etc.
Ford has a grey silicone for 7.3L diesels as well that we used when we're serious. Can almost put it on against an oil drip and still count on it to seal.
Great great awesome video. I’m actually doing mine right now ALL WHEEL DRIVE. You do have to at least loose the differential and let in hang otherwise oil pan won’t come off. Thumbs up on the torque specs and sequence.
Great video, helped with my weekend project. My gasket was leaking at the oil cooler also...just bad design I guess. Your attention to detail and picture from your service manual were a great aid before I did my replacement.
I agree with you that the new gasket looks like a really good quality gasket. It doesn't look flimsy that's for sure. It's really nice to get 2 birds with 1 stone getting this sort of work done while the truck is taken apart for your lift kit. Probably saves you a ton of time and work to do this all before you put all the lift and the diff all back in.
Fel-Pro makes good gaskets. This job would be so much harder with the diff in the way. Figured why not do it now and see if I can't stop some of the leaks. I am curious to see if I stopped any of the leak. The back corner part of the gasket seemed like it had separated.
I just got to say you have a great attitude I am currently working on retrieving the end of the oil dipstick tube. Wonderful Winters, wonderful new liquid, sodium wonderful rust.
I replaced the dipstick tube on this truck when I put the headers on. I didn't even know mine was rusted until it broke off while taking the exhaust manifolds off. Fun times :)
Did you ever get the end of the dipstick out? Broke mine replacing a manifold gasket and I'm about to pull the pan and baffle to get the end of the dipstick because I'm scared its sitting in my crankcase. Not sure what to do
I know this is an old video, but it's a good one. I have an 08 5.3 I'm doing this on. Yours is the only video that shows the torque sequences. I have the Haynes manual for mine, but it doesn't have the torque sequences, hopefully it's the same. The page in your book says all V8 engines, so..
I know this is old now, but I'll comment anyway. My wife and I are planning a day or so in October to replace the entire gasket set on the bottom of the engine of our recently purchased 2004 Sierra 5.3 . It's leaking like crazy on the bottom. Which gaskets? Doesn't matter. Since it has 190K on it, it's best just to replace everything at once, since we are under there making a mess and the weather will be "good". (Weather is never good on a planned day). So rear seals to front seals and maybe even a timing chain if necessary. Why not? We'll be in there, just do it.
I did oil pan gasket, oil cooler lines and valve cover gaskets and my leaks really slowed down. There is an oil pressure sender that can leak in the back too. I think I had a small rear main leak. That would require removing the trans to fix.
I am curious to see what kind of leaks happen with the new gasket. I will be doing the intake at some point and will replace the oil press sender. When the trans needs replacing I will do the rear main and the gasket in the video that you showed me.
Seeing lots of comments saying the front dif needs to be dropped, just for clarity, does that mean the actual front dif and all of those components or just the axle leading to the transfer case?
Can't tell you for sure. I had my front diff out for a lift kit install when I changed mine out. I will tell you getting the whole front diff out is no easy task. I think all the front steering has to be removed.
It must save time at the engine assembly line. No need to rivet the new gasket in place. From the looks of the oil drain plug the oil has been changed a million times. The first oil change that I did on the truck the oil looked funny to me. I thought maybe they added Lucas oil stabilizer or something to it. They said they didn't so I don't know. The engine is pretty clean for 260k.
I know this isn't the way you did it because you had it up on a rack and you were doing a whole lift kit, but for us guys that need to lie on our back on the floor, is it okay to use front tire ramps to support the vehicle when removing that crossmember and dropping the diff, or does the vehicle need to be on jack stands?
If you aren't touching the suspension you should be able to use ramps. Make sure the ramps are rated for the weight of your vehicle. Jack stands might be a good idea for safety. Again be very careful when jacking your truck up and getting under it. If it falls and you are under the truck you will get hurt. Please be safe. I don't want people to get hurt trying to work on their vehicles.
I have a question i accidently drilled through the rivet hole will it be fine as the fell pro gasket covers it or do i get it welded shut on the holes?
I have a 2004 Silverado 2500HD with the 6.0 Vortex motor with 123,000 miles. I will eventually need to replace the gasket on this as well. Would you be able to send me a link to the manual that you were using? Thanks.

I am not sure how to get it out. I did mine during a lift kit install and had the front axle removed. Might want to look around and see what else you can remove to get more room.
Do you have any suggestions for removing 03 Silverado 1500 HD oil pan? I followed your step in the video but my oil pain didn’t not drop down after I removed the 4 nuts that hold 4x4 Front axel in place.
I did a bunch of things to try and stop the oil leaks. Check the playlist on this truck. They did seem to help. I did the oil pan with my axle removed. I was installing a lift kit at the same time.
