Do I have to drain my oil first before I change
The vehicles WITH an oil cooler requires the gasket with two holes. The gasket with one large whole is for vehicles WITHOUT an oil cooler. Both type vehicles have the same block that requires a gasket.
Have a 2006 Yukon with only 123,000 miles. Had a slow oil leak that I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Saw this video and my problem was solved! This simple $4.00 part solved my oil leak
Same thing
Just wanna say thank you brother. You saved me $500. Change the gasket. Leak gon!!💪🏾
Excellent video, Stephen. Thank you. I am replacing my gasket on a 2012 Silverado 5.3 and the video was right on point. If I gather correctly, the oval gasket is for vehicles that only have the block-off and no cooler lines whereas the one with the two holes and O rings are for the vehicles that have the cooler lines. Thanks again for your awesome video.
No problem. That is my understanding based on what I found and the research that I did.
paul curry was your truck leaking from the oil cooler in your 2012? I think I have the same leak in my truck.
@@scottyrogers10 my 2010 is starting to leak and has the cooler lines. Thats the only leak i can see only have 136k miles.
The gasket you first showed is for The Eliminator bracket kit cover. . The second gasket with two holes in it are made for the actual oil line cooler the one that's on your vehicle now when you pulled out of the replacement kit. That is the correct one if you're going to eliminate it you'll have the actual gasket that has no holes in it.. nice job good video
Nice video angle. Great job buddy. Excellent work 🍻
Thank you …. Simple and to the point
Excellent video.2009 Chevy tahoe 5.3..
I think the gasket with the big hole is for a block off plate for engines that don’t have the oil cooler like mine getting ready to change this gasket next weekend.
That first gasket without the two hole is for a non oil cooler line that’s if it has a block of plate instead of a cooler hose.
Thank you
looks to me the gasket u first had as replacement is for the oil cooler blocking plate! good news is u had new oil cooler line kit/w new correct gasket!!!!!
Really great video! Thank you! Question, why did you buy new lines?
Thank you. The lines tend to fail at the crimps to the rubber hoses. My transmission lines were quite bad so I had them all done at the same time.
1. Wrong gasket
2. Change the o ring on the fitting, protruding the back of the cooler block. Its plastic, and they leak.
Now, a pro tip, if you're tracking down a pesky oil leak that is around the starter area. Pull your crank sensor above the starter and replace the O ring.
Legend
So you gotta use the old gasket mine was leaking so bought that gasket made the dang thing leak on opposite side lol bought another gasket figured I was putting in wrong thanks helpful
Mine had a drive shaft below it making it a 20 minute job with some extension swivel sockets.
Never thought of using just a 10mm wrench lol 😂 I did mine in 10 mins not even
Ok thank you , mine look exactly the same. I can fix this
The bolt to the right side of the block was spraying oil out of mine while it’s running. We tightened it up and it seems to be fixed
I want to say mine is leaking from there also the oil cooler has like a bolt do you know what size that tool is
@@TEXASWILDIN Im not 100% sure, i had a mobile mechanic come out and tighten it up. Took like 5 minutes overall. You need a good allen type key that’ll fit, one that isn’t too big or too small, because the first couple we used wouldnt fit. We thought we would have to remove the actual cooler block, but he found a key that would fit good and it worked out.
I looked at the galleys schematics but didn't show optionsl or 6.0 cooler lines. What a pain in the. Arse they are
Thank you for the video not sure if my oil cooler lines are same as yours 2004 Yukon denali 6.0 oil dripping from filter. Other videos said the lines are a son of a ----- to remove so wondering if just trying gasket first or go ahead and do the whole thing
Changing that gasket was a good temporary fix. I was too busy to do the full job this summer so I paid a garage to change the oil pan gasket, oil cooler lines, and the transmission cooler lines. They switched to a 3-line system on the transmission and added a cooler in front of the radiator at the same time. These things will leak so if you are keeping the vehicle long term just go ahead and do it.
@@SteveRivett what do you mean they added a cooler line? Great video! Thumbs up
That looks easy enuff! I'm guessing thats my problem and not the rear main like someone sed!!
No it’s not it’s often misdiagnosed
I have an 02 Chevy avalanche and when I replace that gasket do I need to put some type of silicone on or jus put it as is
do not use silicone, it will plug up your engine if you use too much
The gasket you have without holes is for a truck with no cooler line just block off plate
Had mine changed twice at AAMCO still leaking
Mine has no lines it has a block plate w same screws
I did exactly that, but smuggled oil
...now try that on a 4x4!
I think I have that same problem but it looks like that Allen head bolt on the cooler adapter but im going to still do this gasket as well.
Looks like my Allen head part is leaking on mine also. Did you try to Tighten it?
@@tleb8111 dont bother, its a very tight to access it JUST TO tighten it. if ur going to go for it. get a new o ring for it
get urself a 3/8 allen socket and go for it. if u have 4x4, taking out the front driveshaft will drastically make for more room
Did you try it? If so how did it go? Having the same issue
@@rivasj07 i did do it. I got an appropriate sized O ring to replace it. I took the front driveshaft out to gain more room. Used a 3/8 Allen on a socket while it was unbolted from the oil filter housing and took it off (hold it as u ratchet!) Replaced the O ring and I haven't had a leak (from that Allen plug anyway, lol)
Your wrong gasket is for the block-off plate, that is used for non-oil cooler equipped engines.
Did it seem like your leak stopped from there? I have two leaks. I think one from that plate and one from the valve cover. Still need to watch a little more to make sure that’s where it’s actually coming from. Didn’t know if this was a common area
I'm not sure about the valve covers. This gasket replacement was a stop-gap for me but it helped. I had the lineset and oil pan gasket replaced later this summer.
@@SteveRivett how much was the oil pan gasket job? Thinking about trying to tackle it myself.
@@chadly1337 I just did the oil pan and it honestly wasn’t that bad. I can say the gaskets alone was about $50. I pulled the steering rack out so I could do the bushings on it the same time. Since it was already out. I went ahead and pulled the front diff out. Then it really wasn’t bad. It sounds like a lot of work but I honestly wouldn’t do it the other way. The rack and front diff were so easy to get out it was worth doing
I have a 00 Silverado with a 5.3 vortec.. if I don’t have those lines does that mean I don’t have an engine oil cooler ? Because I’m trying to buy a radiator and it’s asking w/engine oil cooler or w/o engine oil cooler lmk ASAP thank you !
That is correct. You could see a small cover above the oil filter instead of the lines.
@@SteveRivett thank you for the help bro !
Vehicle year and type?????
Just replaced mine 2004 GMC 4.8 368198MI 10-minute job I used 2 hold gasket
I have a 6.2 ls and its leaking oil from one off the bolts change gasket and a bigger bolt and still leaks oil ! Hope some tell me what too do
You may need an oil pan gasket as the oil filter is attached to the oil pan. It has high pressure oil going through it.
@@SteveRivett the larger plug on the cooler blocking plate facing the rear of the engine has an o-ring on the inside that gets dry rot that will also cause an oil leak.
What size socket are you using
I don't recall, it is probably 10 mm or around that. Definitely metric.
Is that a bolt on the rear side of that cooler line plate that bolts to the block and can it be tightened? I'm leaking oil from there thank u
You can retorque your oil pan to try and stop the leak, that's probably what that bolt is for.
I saw leaks from that area to. Did it work?
@@toriwilliams500 The plug facing towards the back of the engine has an o-ring that dry rots and it will start leaking from there.
@@Badeau68 what plug
You bought the wrong gasket. The one shown at the first of the video is for a vehicle that does not have an oil cooler. If you install that wrong gasket the oil cooler will no longer function. Gm trucks without a trailer package do not have engine oil coolers. If it has a factory trailering package it will have an engine oil cooler.
unless it's a ppv 👍🏿 We don't have a tow package but we have an oil cooler
I changed my gasket and it still leaks a drop every few ft. You can see it when the grouds wet really bad. Rainbows all over
Had mine changed twice at AAMCO still leaking ever get it figured out?
did u use any gasket sealant? maybe check to see if bolts need to be retightened
@@clydeking4265 called for no sealant. there is a torx bolt on side of cooler ive tightened 2
Anybody lose oil pressure from the damn fittings to the cooler next to the factory oil filter location on bottom
Do I have to drain my oil first before I change this part
Yes
No
don't have to, suggest doing gasket when u do next oil change, that way oil is already drained from motor and pan!
Before you replaced it, was the oil pressure fluctuating?
not that I remember, I think the van gives you an oil alarm when it is due for an oil change which is very alarming
@@SteveRivett my 09 avalanche fluctuating on the oil pressure. Changed the sensor only to notice a small oil leak but wasn't to sure from where.
@@SteveRivett was hoping the oil cooler gasket would would affect the pressure that way I have a good idea what was leaking..
I have same problem with my Denali oil pressure. Did it work?
@@jarednichols7834 it still fluctuates but never drops under the quarter mark.
I replaced the gasket , but for some reason I’m still seeing a drop any suggestions? Thanks
I would clean up the area and take a close look at the seam between the engine and oil pan. Your oil pan gasket may be blown out...you will notice that the oil filter housing and cooler flange is actually part of the oil pan.
@@SteveRivett thank you !
Did you change the o-ring on the plug facing towards the transmission they tend to dry rot.
@@Badeau68 no honestly I didn’t know about that one
@@Badeau68any chance you know the size of that o-ring ? And perhaps the size of that short alley key used to remove that bolt?
Hey bro I don’t know if you will answer but I was checking my 2002 silverado z71 and there’s no lines any help?
they don't have lines on every application, yours probably has cap instead
@@SteveRivett oh okay it’s because it looks like it’s leaking
@@SteveRivett I am looking at my 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 and it looks like it has just a cap. What is the point of that?
Z71 indicates the off road package, which has typically consisted of different shocks and a skid plate. These lines are probably part of the towing package which would be denoted by a different 3 character alphanumeric code found on the sticker in your glove box.
@@mwkpuck the option is there for the towing package, if not installed they just block it off at the factory with a gasket/plate
Ok I changed it still leaking oil but notice that is coming from the top part
could be oil pressure switch their also known to leak and are at the top of the engine
It's the bolt on the side of the oil line plate. Plastic oring fails. There's a video about it.
Be careful. I managed being very very careful snapping a damn bolt in half!!!
Could this leaking gasket cause low oil pressure?
maybe if the line was collapses inside, if you had a leak big enough to have low oil pressure you would see it
not unless oil leaking from that gasket is really bad, low oil pressure going to be either, oil pump, oil pick up tube o-ring or just bad oil pressure sensor.
So you failed to mention you removed the drives haft, because that part is up above the drive shaft there's no where close to the room your showing.unless you have a 2 wd
It's a 2WD because there is no front differential. Kind of odd to have in snowy Canada, (just guessing from the accent.)
Mine leaked after 20 minutes running the engine after changing gasket
Did you get it fixed?
O ring on the plug facing the back of the engine.
Can you do this with fresh oil ? How much comes out
yes, you don't loose too much. You may or may not need to top it up depending on how much oil you have on the dipstick before you do the job.
About half a quart
Take the oil filter off first and let the oil drain
The other gasket works fine it is what came factory. Mine has 160k miles and just went bad. Urs has been replaced before to have the updated gasket and apparently it felled again. Ac Delco is oem for these trucks.
Mine was leaking as well and when I changed it both boats looked like they have been bottomed out and they would not get tight. Any ideas?
You will have to take them out and clean the holes with a pick or something. You don't want them bottomed out.
Follow the 10 commandments and repent from your sins. Jesus loves you!💙
Other gasket is for block off plate so oil flows
That’s the wrong gasket
Geez the wrong gasket
Use a 12" inch watched hang 7 lb from the very end of handle n guess what ya get????? Yup 7 foot lbs
