    LYRICS (English Translation):
    Tokyo Calling
    The city's almost falling
This is a total nightmare, it's the worst story
    Tokyo Calling
    The city's almost falling
Too far away are our hopes for future glory
    Tokyo Calling x6
Dad is stuck in his office job, he wants to quit but can't
Big bro is stuck at university, addicted to the internet all day
Mom is stuck with boring friends, follows idols to escape reality
Until a tune from far away suddenly washes over them
    Tokyo Calling
    The city's oh so boring
Fighting against the current is always stopped with "sorry"
    Tokyo Calling
    People are talking
Hopes for the future can't help but sneak out from the forest*
    Tokyo Calling x6
Dad left to work part-time at a soba shop
Big bro left to work part-time at a cat cafe
Mom left to work part-time at a hostess bar
But when the skies parted, they all began to sing a tune
    Tokyo Calling
    We're marching without stalling
With our hopes for the future we're making new history
    Tokyo Calling
    We're marching without stalling
With our hopes for the future we're making new history
    Tokyo Calling
    Proudly we are marching
With our hopes for the future we're making new history
    Tokyo Calling
    Proudly we are marching
With our hopes for the future we're making new history
    We are marching x12
    Tokyo Calling
    Proudly we are marching
With our hopes for the future we're making new history
    Tokyo Calling
    Proudly we are marching
With our hopes for the future we're making a new victory

Their hugely popular performance of Otano Blue on The First Take really shows off their singing abilities. I think it, next to BabyMetals amazing redition of Monochrome, is one of to most popular videos from that very interesting Japanese You Tube channel.

They are a vocal/dance troupe. They do not play instruments. But they are truly fantastic. Otona Blue, Pineapple Kryptonite, you can't go wrong. And yes they address very serious topics sometimes. They have done a cover of Beastie Boys Intergalactic.

Very cool! I guess I (Itai) was onto something when this clip reminded me a little of 'Intergalactic' 🙂

I had never heard of them before and I enjoyed my introduction to them. They don't seem to be a typical idol group, and, in fact, they might poke a little fun at the idol group culture. I took a peak at their web page and it looks like they did a 7 city North American tour a couple of months ago. The sold out each of the shows and I know at least 2 of the venues are 1000+ capacity. I probably won't be listening to them on my own, but I look forward to seeing them on here again.

      Hi Dan!
I (Itai) must say, if the rest of their work is on this level, I think I might follow them a lot more intently after we get through a few of their songs on the show. I really loved everything about Tokyo Calling and I'm definitely looking forward to more. They have a cool look and sound to them and I'm loving the dynamic music video for this one. Very interesting indeed...
Thank you kindly for, once again, taking the time to view and engage. Always a pleasure and much appreciated! 🙏

Sugoi! Excellent reaction. Just saw them in November. They delivered one of the most explosive, highly energetic, highly entertaining shows I've witnessed in decades. They use backing tracks, and every song is choreographed, which includes minor gymnastics. They are incredibly FUN! It was also a big regret because, for some reason, I failed to purchase a VIP ticket. When I talked to those who had VIP, they showed me pictures they had taken of themselves with Atarashii Gakko members posed as action hero figures! Arrrgghhh!
You also mentioned the Beastie Boys "Intergalactic," which happened to be the only cover song AG did that show!!
    Arigatou! 🤘🤘

If you want to hear something amazing and jazz influenced from them, check out Koi geba, it's amazing, They have a strong message in their songs, not afraid to talk about society problems in Japan such as overworking, high expectations for students, abuse from people with position of power, porn obsession, etc. and also some funny and goofy stuff lol, going from jazz to rock, indie, dance, 80's pop, hip hop, etc. They don't fit in a genre, they are a genre themselves

Otona Blue and Koi Geba are their 2 most watched videos and both interesting commentaries on real life issues. Note in Tokyo Calling when they are wearing the uniforms they are the authorities. When the video starts and they are large and with the opening of the video there is Godzilla thematically. Godzilla was a response or retribution from nature to humanity. They are bringing change. When they are in uniforms they are trying to call for help to the changes coming. At the end they join the March and also celebrate victory.

Yes. We discussed some of these after our recording session. Some of the visuals were going too quickly for us to absorb it all on first viewing. Excellent song and a fun video!

3 of them are 21 and 1 is 24. They do their own choreography and have significant input to the lyrics. Also they are choreographers for other groups.
The lyrics are well worth checking out, Not Pop.
They were Baby Models and Child Fashion Models before becoming singers and dancers. Oh, they love Sour Dough Bread!!
They performed Tokyo Calling on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, great audience.
Follow up -- Atarashii Gakko "Otono Blu" on The First Take.

Itai is right. ATARASHII GAKKO NO LEADERS are not a “band.” They are a dance vocal troupe. And very comedic. Look for their SEISHUN GAKUEN video series, where they explain the ins and outs of Japanese high schools.
They also created a song and video in Southern California with Money Mark of Beastie Boys, call Pineapple Kryptonite.
They have all been in show business since they were children. KANON and RIN, who are “HAFU,” both were fashion magazine models when they were very young. (HAFU models in Japan are popular because they look both familiar and exotic, an often given to MANGA characters for the same reason. )

Great comment. They're together for nearly ten years now, and many of us were following them when they were underground. Hard-working artists, and hilarious too (lead singer Suzuka is even TOTALLY nuts). Their early albums cover many musical styles, from punk to jazz.

@@realdocloco My favorite is the video of them in a studio practicing the dance for OTONA BLUE. SUZUKA must have been a vaudevillian in a previous life.

They actually have very different kind of songs. They do not play instrument or write their music. But they do all their choreography themself. And they seem to work with producers and lyricists that do interesting stuff.
You should Check out Otona Blue/ First take. A really charming performance of one of their songs.
And they are really awesome live.
    Very interesting band😀

It is a set done for things like Ultraman, but I cannot remember nor find what production the set is actually for. I do however know as we see, that they were given permission to use it for this.

@@scottlakefilms Though it may be generic kaiju scale buildings, they filmed it on the rooftop of a mid-sized real building, so all of the buildings in the background are real, as is the sky and the birds.
