My experiences with “Reality” TV part 1

  • I’ve worked on countless TV shows over the years and one thing I’ve learned, behind the scenes of TV is NOTHING like people think! This is just part one of my experiences working in TV, these are my personal opinions and may or may not accurately represent several unnamed major networks ;)

Thank you Chris for standing up for those that have no voice. I absolutely hate anyone that abuses an animal. I hope you and Gabby had a wonderful Christmas. I’m sure Casper was on Santa’s nice list. He’s a good boy and so darn adorable. Look forward to Part 2.

I so glad you said it! think most people know that “reality tv” is anything but real. Some of it is so blatantly obvious that it’s laughable. What bothers me about it is that some of them build “credibility” from it and become a “trusted source” for information. People need to take all tv content with a BIG grain of salt. And not believe everything they see. Reality tv is cheap to produce and the networks can grind out show after show and they become disposable. And with animal content it’s even worse. The production costs are even lower, and the animals become expendable and replaceable. All ethics go out the window. The animals cannot speak for themselves so we have to speak for them. If people really care they need to stop watching, that’s the only way it stops. Thanks for speaking up Chris.

😭😭😭😭The one about the pig and the alligator made me emotional to where I know the feeling if I were to witness it I would get into a physical fight with the abusers also. I have worked with animals(mainly dogs.) And I am currently working at a zoo here in Nashville as a giftshop cashier; And so I am around animals all the time....and if something were to happen to the animals there I would be devastated. Also I have been watching your channel for a year; And I have grown and to love Casper(Even though he never love me back lol.) But he is too adorable ❤❤

Great video, I love how you DON'T sell out and stay true to yourself in the end stick to your goals educating the public about and wildlife conservation, I know what your saying their used to be such great old school animal planet educational shows like 17 plus years ago and they aired for a little while then they were cancelled for the "NEXT big show", Like how in the 1990's they had educational animal documentaries on National Geographic and much more that took a lot of work to produce, and now you have people building million dollar treehouse's tv show's on network's and stuff that has nothing to do with the animals awesome video explaining your thoughts on this topic of reality tv Chris 💙🐅🦒💪

This makes so much sense. I like you loved catching snakes growing up and besides water snakes in the local canal, finding snakes in the woods is very difficult. I've spent 17 years in the military and have only come across a handful while training. The survival stuff is super interesting too. I enjoy it and plan to hunt one day, I do enjoy ethically hunted game and meat, but these survival shows always seems corny and too successful. Great vid. I've said it before and I'll day it again, this is the best nature content since Steve Irwin passed

Thank you for sharing with us. I always suspected some survival shows were staged and the same with animal shows. I mean the finds are just too perfect and especially given how camouflaged many reptiles are. I am excited to hear more and will think on questions. I just stumbled across this video, and I'm happy I did. I hope you and your family had a good Christmas ❤

One of the reasons I started watching TH-cam regularly years ago is because TV is "too professional" for my tastes. Too much overproduction, sensationalism, loud music, and other fluff and nonsense. Most of the channels around here were just ordinary people engaging in their hobbies, having fun and sharing it with the world in low-def, and I really enjoyed that. Over time, most TH-cam channels have been going down the road of reality TV, especially when sponsors are involved, and it's pretty frustrating.
Thank you for keeping your channel simple, real, and informative.

You're the boss, Chris! I appreciate knowing this information. I have never watched most of the reality tv, but animal shows have been one of my favorites throughout my life. I can remember people saying Steve Irwin was fake, and I don't know how much staging for television's sake was done on Crocodile Hunter, but I never doubted that he found the animals and worked with them...we all saw it! I can't say the same about certain other animal shows. But TH-cam is a better option these days for this kind of content, and I'm so glad you're out there doing it every day!!

I'm familiar with what you are talking about. I've done shows too. Although it's cost me, I've never allowed unethical treatment of animals. My respect for you standing up to the producer. That takes guts when you don't know if you'll get a trip home. Thanks for going into detail about the staged discovery of "wildlife." Certainly much of it is domesticated captive and often cooled reptiles, for instance, so they were more easily handled and wrangled, etc. Many of the predators capturing and eating prey are staged too. Those are rare shots to find by photographers by scouting, observation and happenstance. They occur, but are rare unless the prey is released near the predator. Then you often have them use multiple cameras and splices of totally different times of approach, etc... Anyhow, I subscribe and speak for others who doubtless would like to see you do a mini series on this topic. That's one way you can archive your past experiences for other's benefit.

I grew up on Animal Planet. But when Reality TV started happening, I knew it was BS. I fell for it for a while when I was a teen because I was trying to be cool, but luckily I had a friend who woke me up to that BS.
Funny enough, his name is ALSO Chris, and honest, when I first saw you, I was like, "Is that chris? (My friend)". Because you look almost identical to him. Kudos to you for standing up…it took courage and caring. That would have been a monstrous thing to do. My father taught me to understand and love and be in nature safely. There are hunting farms where they use animals, like lions, who’ve been in captivity and are drugged so that rich idiots can say they went on safari in say, Texas. It’s disgusting. I’ll leave my experiences to things I’ve seen and fought over out of this but I am so glad you are doing this. If you get syed I’ll start a GoFundMe for your costs. And your show is one of a very small list of animal shows I watch. Don’t get started on rough handling of the magically appearing snake, for example.

There is no way they're sitting in the wild waiting for a snake to eat a mouse, or a tiger to catch a whatever they catch. I've always suspected setups, but can't confirm in a court of law.

These guys earn residuals and you don't , bet that if you had an agent they could get you a better gig and take acting lessons etc and being able to interact with dangerous animals on camera would be an advantage that most actors don't have. Don't know if You and Gabby care for any of that. ( I mean more fiction/fantasyscifi rather than reality TV which sucks)

They just put everything CGI now so there’s not really a place for that on TV
