Another reason why alligators have only 3 claws on their front legs is because it's generally an archosaur thing. Archosauria is the group of reptiles that includes the two clades Pseudosuchia (which include crocodilians and other archosaurs more closely related to them) and Avemetatarsalia (which include the flying reptiles called pterosaurs, the non-avian dinosaurs and the avian dinosaurs aka birds.) It's a general rule that archosaurs have two or three digits on their forelimbs that are clawed and the other two digits lack any.

Chris, why do you think the state of Louisiana still doesn't outlaw the feeding of alligators, when every other state that resides in an alligators natural habitat does outlaw it? I find that crazy that lousiana allows for people to feed alligators knowing how deadly they can be.

B) the majority of the alligator population in louisiana subsides in the swamp regions of southern Louisiana where not a lot of people live. Hello I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I have a question about mugger crocodiles. In a documentary about dangerous animals, a wildlife conservationist said that mugger crocodiles protect each other. Like if one mugger crocodile is in trouble, he’ll send a distress call, and other crocs will show up to help him. The conversationist said that he witnessed this happening when he and his team caught a crocodile.
as a european, who seen aligators and crockos in the zoo only, i have a dumb question: Does they react to the smell of blood, or the taste or anything? Just curious (i know they are not sharks lol)
