Just going off the other enclosures you have already built, you are building far bigger than required and with the best materials available. These cages are amazing and I am amazed with what you are feeding! I also like to give my exotics a wide range of foods and a good variation every day. It is super expensive though and I can’t even begin to imagine what your feed bills are like b/c I am only feeding 23 animals and it is a huge portion of our bills. It would be so much cheaper to just feed them commercial foods but no where near as good for them. I can tell what a good operation you run by the type of food I see being fed to your animals.

Some people just can't be nice, and that's on them. You're doing outstanding work, and I love the filtering idea. You might look into the swamp style, which they use to treat waste water in places. With the right plants, you can filter all kinds of things out.

Going for a normal aquarium model is in my opinion the best way to go even if it is more expensive. Get some sponges because sand is mainly used for taking sweat and other skin oils out of the water while being harder to clean and not filtering poop as good as aquarium sponges, i'll like to make sure you are keeping in mind that a pond with sand, rocks, wood, etc will do a fairly good job cultivating beneficial bacteria that aquariuns can't simple by being smaller, so you don't need to get an crazy amont of biologicol media. I think that your alligators ponds will work properly with a good pump, a big amont of sponges and maybe some biologicol media(buy good quality ones so you don't have to store a crazy amont of spaces in bioballs for example) with maintenance such as water changes every once in a while. My english is not that good but i hope i could help you Chris.

Your enclosures are so lovely…lucky critters to live with the two of you. You two are forces of nature. I know how hard it is to deal with bullies which is exactly what these trolls are…deeply insecure people who go after anyone who lives a worthy, caring life to make themselves feel important. It is considered a serious mental health issue, which I’ve studied for years. I’ve found it best to ignore them unless they threaten me or someone else physically or go after someone who can’t defend themselves. They see your wonderful life, hard work, your happy family loving family and the contrast to their own lives at least causes them pain and at worst enrages them. Most are products of child abuse. If you can, feel compassion for them and more importantly don’t engage. As a starter that pond is gorgeous. Can’t wait for the gators…grew up in gator country and love ‘em. Donation time.

Love the channel/what yall do! If you do use alot mulch often you may want look into getting bulk delivered it will cost way less then having buy many bags (learned that over time) even if u have access to a dump trailer for picking it up saves a ton of money in the end..even if u dont use it all right away, you can put a tarp down store it ontop cover if u wish..saves hundreds of dollars and get so much more yardage..just a thought since every penny counts and you can always use more.. great job guys! "Cenote water is often very clear, as the water comes from rain water filtering slowly through the ground, and therefore contains very little suspended particulate matter. The groundwater flow rate within a cenote may be very slow." Now about filters, I know mostly from agriculture. if you need some heavy duty water filters here we work with Amiad and they have some amazing filters(Arkal model) but mostly cause we use treated sewage water which contains algae and calcium that can clog the pipes real fast, and these filters have a built in cleaning system operated by crank to wash out all the buildup so its not exactly closed circuit. We also need to do a chlorine and hydrogen peroxide wash every half a year or so to keep the dripping pipes in top shape and break down all the calcium and algae. but again , mostly cause we use UV treated sewage water.

In the ponds can't they have salt water instead ? I mean like I have a salt water pool with a sand filter and the salt makes its own chlorine, draws the sun to keep it warmer, does not burn your eyes, fade your clothes, etc...just curious.

    Hey Chris,
For the gator ponds, have you talked to AquaScape and Ed the Pond Professor. Ed's pond's are all self filtering and in a naturalistic way. I would suggest to contact them.
If you don't know who they are then contact Kenan at Kamp Kenan, also there in Florida. He could easily get you in touch with Ed and AquaScape, they both work with each other.
Their pond are amazing. And as far as clean...usually, depending on the time of year as well as if its raining or not, you can usually see through to the bottom.
Seriously they are the ones I would suggest you contact.
For what your going to spend, why not get naturalistic ponds that have their own wetland filters.
    I hope that helps!
    Matt - Toronto, Canada

It looks really great at your place. My uncle is having a biofilter pond next to his pond for his fishes. it looks good, cause you don't see it through all the plants in it used for filtering. I saw other biofilter ponds, which uses some "special" fishes, too, in them to reduce the insect/mosquito numbers and est some of the bigger bio-products. But this is all from Germany and Netherlands and they were something like 1/4 up to 1/3 of the size of the "clean" pond, which seams to be needed to have enough buffer for extreme weather like heavy rain or drought. Hope this helps and good luck/success.

As others are saying in the comments, try to ignore the idiots trying to make you feel like you’re not accomplishing something incredible. Those people are clearly jealous of the life you’re living and what you’re building, knowing they don’t contribute to the world like that and hate their 9-5! Seriously.
Question - when you said you’d like to have fish in the pond, would the gators not just eat them? Is that the idea or..?

Chicken rubbing the food in the sand is probably for digestion, seen Birds of prey scoop up small pebbles for that and just swalloing them. Maybe sand is not the best unless they are desert chickens. Sorry people are saying negative stuff about the gator pond, they are probably used to seeing Casper's enclosure so they think it gotta look like that.

Lilly is my favourite. I know she’s got a story to tell. Wish she could tell us ❤❤
Unfortunately if you’re on social you’re going to get people bitching. (That’s why I don’t) lol. You guys are doing an amazing job. I don’t understand why people watch something if they don’t like it. Just go watch something else instead.

Have you spoken with ed (pond professor) and Greg (aquascape)

Maybe aquascape would have some ideas on water filtration?
