    So the secret often seems to be emulsion, emulsion, emulsion! Thank you very much, that's a game changer!
    Do you think you could do a super Simple Emulsified Sugar Scrub video showcasing this technique in the future? I got rather distracted for the longest time trying to figure out why I probably shouldn't swap for the gentler/less-basic surfactants that I already own in this particular formulation (for those who are stumped by this too, I think the higher pH surfactants were selected to accommodate the acidity of the re-fatting agent, Lamesoft, which is definitely not something I planned on purchasing in the near future). I still don't know haha 😅
    I think a "Simple Emulsified Scrub" or "Emulsified Scrub 3 Ways" would be high demand & help address some of the swap questions here

    • @mokshalani8414
      @mokshalani8414 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just to throw it out there, I've limited myself to SLSa, SCI, & Cocamidopropyl Betaine since I want to use them in so many other formulas, therefore they're justified beginner purchases in my book. I know the foam won't be as fluffy, but I do hope I can still make it work in an emulsified sugar scrub without too much pH fuss 🥺

    As much as I LOVE this creamy foamy scrub, there's an underlying smell that I dislike - I think it's the Decyl Glucoside. Is there a substitute or different foaming formulation that you've discovered that I could try?

  • @cathiharris5809
    @cathiharris5809 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This looks lovely and I can’t wait to try! Two questions - it looks like Lamesoft PO 65 is naturally derived, am I correct? Also, I have a friend who loves salt scrubs, she says sugar isn’t scrubby enough for her legs. If I dropped the surfactants, included salt instead of sugar and upped the other creamy goodness do you think I that would work? As always I so enjoy your channel and find so much inspiration here to experiment and learn! Thank you.

    Hi! Thank you so much for sharing this!! I've been testing SO many formulations, I've almost given up. I absolutely LOVE the way this feels. I tested it out in the sun for a bit (75 degrees F) and it did get quite runny. Is there anything I can add/change to make it melt a bit less? The only difference in what I used was Coconut oil rather than the oil you used. Maybe I could add steric acid or bees wax or maybe more emulsifying wax, thoughts?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They'll expand slowly in this; you could add them to the water phase, but I'd probably skip the whipping at the end as they'll be more delicate and you'd likely burst at least a few of them. Happy making!

    • @krenee984
      @krenee984 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you tried using regular old emulsifying wax? I have never tried formulating with cosmetic grade mineral oil or petrolatum but I don't really see why it wouldn't work. For glycerin, it comes down to a matter of taste. Too much and it can feel sticky and unpleasant. What I would do is try one of the basic humblebee and me lotion recipes and directly replace whatever oil is used with liquid petrolatum/mineral oil and go from there.

    So I'm thinking about making a scrub following your recipe, however I live in a apartment and I'm worried about the Slsa going through the vents, I don't want my neighbors smelling it, I don't know how strong it is, I never worked with that ingredient before. Also where did you get those glass bowls? Thank you

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think there's any need to worry about that-it's not stinky, it's just unpleasant to inhale. It also doesn't travel very far unless you blast it with a fan or something ridiculous like that. It's no more likely to make its way through the vents into your neighbour's home than icing sugar is :)
      The glass bowls are called "prep cups" and are easily found in kitchen supply shops, Target, etc. Happy making!

      I'm afraid it's impossible to make anything "chemical free". Water, the air we breathe, and spinach are all chock full of chemicals. This formulation is ~99% natural, though :)

    • @HumblebeeAndMe

      I always recommend plastic over glass for products that will likely be used in the shower/bath. Broken glass + water + naked people = bad combo!

    Where do you get all your ingredients?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Brenda! I always link all the ingredients for any given formulation in the written version of the formulation in the free partner blog post, which is linked in in the written version of the formulation in the free partner blog post the description box below the video (that's one of the many reasons I highly suggest reading the blog post as well as watching the video! If you're not sure what I mean by the "description box", read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.).
      Sometimes those links break because they're always off-site links, or sometimes the store I've linked to isn't in your country. That's why I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. It doesn't have every country in the world, but it does contain all the online stores I know about. If your country isn't listed, that's because I don't know about any online stores in your country. You could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend places to shop.

    Hello ! Nice recipe! I am a new subscriber, I really like your recipes that I am currently discovering. Thank you for sharing ! I have been doing my DIY cosmetics for several years. So I wonder why you use Optiphen plus preservative? It contains phenoxyethanol and it has been recognized as bad by the French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines, for its liver toxicity, for its potentially harmful effects on human reproduction as well as many other inconveniences. In addition, phenoxyethanol is produced by ethoxylation (a very polluting chemical process) here in France and in Europe, it is prohibited in organic cosmetics. But unfortunately still used in common cosmetics...
    There are better natural preservative alternatives. So take care of yourself and those around you ;) I hope that my comment, which is intended to be kind, will not seem unpleasant to you. Thanks for your understanding

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome & thanks for watching :)
      I don't have any concerns about phenoxyethanol when used at this concentration, especially in a rinse-off product. I would not drink a glass of it, but I also wouldn't drink a glass of hot sauce or lavender essential oil :) The dose and application is very important when determining the safety of ingredients. For example, ibuprofen is generally a safe OTC pain killer, but too much can be dangerous. It's impossible to have a discussion about safety without a discussion of dose and use.
      The CIR, FDA, and EU have all reviewed the data on phenoxyethanol and have determined it is safe for use at 1% or less (this formulation uses it ~0.78%). You can learn more here: www.cosmeticsinfo.org/ingredients/phenoxyethanol/. You can also review the more detailed report from the EU here: ec.europa.eu/health/scientific_committees/consumer_safety/docs/sccs_o_195.pdf.
      The only references I could find for "French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines" and "phenoxyethanol" is in regards to its use for diaper-area products for children under the age of 3, which is no longer allowed.
      You are also welcome to use a different preservative; that's the beauty of DIY! I've linked to information on a variety of others + information on substituting preservatives in the free partner blog post.
      Happy making!

    Just remember guys.... oil does NOT belong down the drain. It both clogs the drains and really harms all orgnisms living in the water (same goes for oil from the kitchen)
