As a plumber, I could do a shitty job or a good job on a plumbing project. Both systems will work exactly the same for 5 years and if I did a shitty job the costumer might even be happier because it got done quicker and for less money. The difference is that the shitty version only lasts 5 years, after which it’s starts leaking in one place after another, you fix one leak and there’s a new one next month. Each causing more damage than the entire project was worth 5 years ago. Competition does not work in this case because by the time you notice the shit you can’t even remember what plumbing company did the work

It’s the common cliche joke about mechanics finding problems like a clog in the ahdbdnjejebshsb cause the customer doesn’t know wtf that means, there’s no competition if the objective measurements of quality are not capable of being measured by a party with the knowledge to analyze the quality, such as an inspector rather than my old fuck neighbor who sometimes pulls on her front door when she should push

Like, suddenly people just don't want a 3rd party to verify their home is safe and their investment won't collapse? The main example given why it would be a bad thing was 3rd world countries...
Bad example as the entire premise of a country being 3rd world is that their economy and society is really shitty and undeveloped. 3rd world countries that do have regulations and laws often aren't followed or enforced, while in 1st world countries they are. Isn't it pretty obvious why that's the case?

He's absolutely right about the water damage analogy. I do it for a living too and have done it for years with multiple restoration companies. We go way further for insurance claims than private jobs because the insurance companies have years of experience working with us and know what standards to hold us to. They act very much like a regulatory body in that sense.
Private work we do base level work for. Not necessarily to be shady and do half assed work intentionally though. It is because our services are not cheap. The hourly rate for technicians is about $60-65/h.
The dehumidifiers and fans we charge a daily rental fee for. 1 DH is about $120/day. Air movers (fans) are about $35/day.
With insurance companies we stuff as much equipment in as possible because we can bill for it.
On a private job we will try to manage the total cost and keep it more reasonable for the client.
The problem is with private jobs we are more likely to miss something that could lead to further more expensive problems down the road.
With insurance companies if we miss something they will act as a regulatory body and come back to us demanding we make things right at our expense. A client on a private job could attempt to do the same but because insurance companies have preferred vendor lists that restoration companies battle to get onto, we always put up less of a fight with insurance companies. They are our "cash cow" relatively speaking so we really try not to upset them.

@@michaeldromes3948 Calling M4A a garbage healthcare policy in a country with the worst healthcare outcomes (commonwealth fund study) and the most expensive cost in the developed world seems rather short sighted.
Also M4A doesn't ban private insurance. Private insurance still exists for the more supplementary and non-essential forms of medicine not covered by Medicare for all. This isn't unlike other developed countries.
For example France's universal single payer healthcare covers 75% of all healthcare costs but also offers supplementary medicine, known as the "private version". Except it's not private in the way people in the US think about it. It is required by law to be a nonforprofit mutual, which returns any extra money back to those who are policyholders. There are no stockholders, they are strictly regulated by the government, for most situations they exist to cover the leftover prices - the 45% of elective medication costs not covered by the sociale, certain optic surgeries, advanced dental work, or if you want elective doctor visits that would not be covered by the rest.
It is completely different to the idea of US private system in that the US private system is for profit and the French private system is non profit. This is just one example of a European country to give an example.
Finally, a vast majority of the EU private options grew OUT of the already existing public healthcare services, rather than the U.S.'s attempt to do the reverse. This is a a major point in why many people have issues with private insurance currently, its stranglehold on the market and pricing is deeply intrenched in a completely unique way.

I'm glad Destiny is focusing some on right wingers. I would add to his statements that markets only work when there's competition and capitalism naturally leads to monopolies that over time become more and more effective at killing competition. And it's generally through anti-competitive tactics and not via offering a better product for less money. To other comments there is such a thing as market socialism. Many leftists think there are pros and cons to markets and think that the next step forward won't be to abolish markets, but to change how businesses are operated so that they are more democratic.

As a right-wing person I agree with almost all of these clips embarrassing the right but it is baffling to me that the 26:29 clip was included. Would you mind explaining if most lefties consider this a great victory and if so, on what grounds?
1: Is it really incorrect to say that she is mentally ill? I thought mental illness and mental disorders where synonymous and she is diagnosed with three different disorders. From Wikipedia: "Most international clinical documents use the term mental "disorder", while "illness" is also common.". Like what would be a necessary requirement for someone to be considered mentally ill?
2: Do you believe Chris Hahn handled the debate well? All I saw from him was moral grandstanding and insults (not a great combination).
3: Isn't Chris Hahn's behavior quite problematic if Greta Thunberg is mentally ill. Doesn't he, with his fierce objection, imply that he would consider it very bad if she was mentally ill?
4: would it not be OK for a political pundit to criticize Greta as a political thought leader? I mean if the right have teenage thought leaders (which we might have on TikTok), would you not want to point out if they were ignorant or such? (Not that It is an attack if it is correct that she is mentally ill).

    • @tomisaacson2762

I dunno about "victory", but Knowles looks really bad in that clip.
      1) It's not about the truth or falsity of that statement. That's not the dispute. It's the fact that he's bringing that up in that way. It doesn't matter what she's diagnosed with. The point is that he's using mental illness to denigrate and discredit a child. How is the fact that she has OCD of ANY relevance to the discussion? It's cringy, gross shit-flinging for the sake of views. It's not what you say if you're actually interested in making a substantive critique of her.
      2) No, but Hahn is absolutely right to criticize him.
      3) You didn't understand his objection. See point 1.
      4) If I were to criticize a right wing teenage thought leader that happened to have mental illness on national television, I'd have the decency, tact, and pragmatism to not bring up their irrelevant illnesses, let alone in an insulting or mocking way, and focus on the actual substance of their project. Y'know...like an adult.
"(not that it is an attack if it is correct that she is mentally ill)"
Next time you have a disagreement with someone, say a co-worker or an acquaintance, take a page out of Knowles' book, and bring up something irrelevant that you suspect they don't like about themselves (it could be their weight, their face, or their mental health). But make sure it's factual, so they misinterpret it as an attack lmao.
I hope you see how silly that sounds.

    • @themadmathematician3
      @themadmathematician3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tomisaacson2762 1: I agree with you mostly. However, to me "Take it back!" means that you disagree with the statement and not just that it is irrelevant or rude. Would you agree that Hahn is at the very least being unclear by repeatedly using that phrase instead of specifying why he has a problem with it?
2: We seem to agree :).
4: I was being a little unclear but my question was whether her being a child matters when criticising her, given that she is a political thought leader. Hahn repeatedly brings up that she is a child so he seems to think so. Whether Knowles is being despicable or not, I don't think her being a child should matter.
      (5) I agree with you and disagree with my past self. Her mental illness was used as an attack.
