Hi all. we had a big oil usage with our c1. 2 liter oil every 700 km!!! thought the engine were done. did a compression test and the compression came out good. all 3 cilinders 15,5-16 bar. So it had to be some else. By accident i came across this great vid. i did the pcv test, Clogged!! Cleaned it and topped of the oil level at max. We drove 896km total. now at our vacation place i checked this afternoon. Only 0,5 liter added to max level. A big difference. Thanks Cyclone Cyd for this good tutorial. I use engine flush at each oil change. Car is 2005 Citroen C1. 110,000 miles. Doesn't use any oil. PCV valve clean as a whistle. So use engine flush at each oil change. Plus I get 63 mpg if I drive it gently. Check your rear brakes for binding. Mine were binding and I got 56mpg. Cleaned them up (using cyclone cyds you tube vid) and now I get 63mpg.
PCV valve was blowing both ways on my 107 (gummed up) Didn’t have any carburettor cleaner. Used white sprit and a small medium bristled brush.. Seems to have done the job. Valve now operating one way only. Thank you for a clear and concise video.
Just done this on my C1. I found that mine was a bit clogged up. Really simple job and the only tool I needed was a flat screwdriver to help ease the valve out. Thanks Cyd.
Another suggestion to prevent valve getting stuck and dirt. Change oil and filter every 5k miles (or 8k) or every year and use most tiny oil possible even in southern Europe countries. Toyota asks for mobile 1 (that's Toyota genuine rebrabdend) 0w20 API SN ACEA C2 but a 5w30 API SN ACEA C2 with low cts could be OK. I use castrol magnatec 5w40 API SN ACEA C3 since my engine was not serviced as well for 40k km so same damage was done.(but oil consumption its OK and engine runs smooth thanks to new pcv valve and short service intervals). This prevent the valve to be stucked and helps to keep clean piston rings and free to do their job (prevent oil leak and scrape oil from cylinder). Once again thanks for sharing this video. This can help a lot with oil leak, having an healthy and reliable engine.
@@CycloneCyd I talked about oil with a toyota mechanic. He said genuine toyota oil its Mobil 1 esp 5w30 API SN ACEA C2. Hope this info could be helpful too.
@@CycloneCyd I have a question. What to do if pcv valve is stucked and you risk to damage the grommet? Sometimes hot air doesn't work. When I replaced mine pcv I had to destroy the old gasket (that's why I bought valve and gasket ). Your opinion worths a lot to me.
@@xyzRyoxyz Thanks ryo. I would say if the PCV is stuck in place, you could use a piece of hose to blow and suck to check it's still operating but this is only a very basic test. In this instance I would advise replacementof both the valve and grommet, but wait till you have received your new parts before pulling the old one out. Valves usually come with a new grommet anyway.
@@CycloneCyd my valve + grommet were replaced in January. I'm the dude that linked amayama site :D. If you want to order the gasket you have to order it. The valve cames without gasket (is it the right word for gum seal?). When I replaced mine it was impossible to take apart the valve easy and without damaging the gasket/seal/grommet whatever is the right word.
By the way, the part number for the PCV is TOYOTA 12204-40030. They seem as rare as hens teeth in the UK and cant find one for sale anywhere. I believe the part is Made In Japan. UPDATE - 30/01/2022, just cleaned mine, did not remove anything, was able to work around everything, just unattached the accelerator cable from the metal securer. I sprayed carb cleaner on long cotton buds and just wiped them around the inside of both rubber hoses to lift out any debris and dirt, blasted the PCV with carb cleaner and refitted. I have no idea if this will improve anything but its only a 10 min job and a bit of fun to do anyway. Thank you for your video :)
On some vehicles, they are buried/ or really a pain to change out or find/ & get stuck in the rubber holder/ or just plain get 'beat with the heat' as it were. My Chrysler 3.3 L engine is a real bugger to even touch let alone change out. And had to look around for one here in Canada too. The old engine they sadly do not make anymore. The old iron block was a good engine. 3-400,000 miles no problem. Change the oil every 3,000Km. A must!
Replaced my Toyota Aygo 2009(147000KM) PCV Valve for the first time today. Looks dirty. PCV cleaned. hope you use less oil. I'm going to order a new PCV from the Toyota dealer, because it doesn't cost that much( €29 from the Toyota dealer😢OE but to most . Thx for video

I just did it yesterday on my C1, and today it feels really different: -a bit better acceleration (didn't measure it, just by the feeling) -the sound of the engine is better (has a deeper pitch now). -at higer speeds, the car is less noisy So I wonder: can a PCV cleaning really cause so much change, or is is just a coincidence or is it just my psycho?
Thank you very much for sharing. I replaced it for 25€. Bought spare original valve and gasket from Japan. Mine was really hard to unfold so I used hot air to soft gum gasket. Oil consumption was an issue for me, now it's almost 700ml every 10k km. Incredible such a little and cheap valve can cause this major issue.
I cleaned mine so will keep a check on oil consumption, fuel economy doesn't seem to have been effected yet. The PVC valve looked dirty but still seemed to operate when sucking and blowing through the valve, the airflow seemed to increase after cleaning it though. Personally though I wouldn't recommend an Oil flush unless it's absolutely required, just change the oil more regularly to keep the engine clean (oil has cleaners in it anyway so as long as you don't push it too far it will keep the engine clean)
I got an oil flush on my 'ex-girlfriend's' VW Golf (with the dreaded grey paint syndrome) and it destroyed the engine even faster than if I had let it die at a young age on its own. I will NEVER get a flush on any of my engines unless some kid puts soda pop in the crankcase! lol Just change the oil more often/ too much/ it can't hurt. P.S. That VW was a total nightmare of maintenance woes. Half made in Germany/ and half made in Mexico. One nasty machine. I would never buy one personally here in North America. But for you, sure, go ahead. by all means. Man, I hated that car. Didn't like her all that well either looking back ...
Interesting and a little infuriating! I've recently sold a 107 (same car really) and took a hit on the price, because it was an oil burner! I will never know if the pcv was at fault, but thanks for the solid gold knowledge. You cant beat regular oil changes, I believe that 6k miles is about right.
Hi cyd I have cleaned the valve like you have shown on the video and was very easy to do. My car is a 2011 C1 1lt . I also did the same on my 2013 Toyota Yaris 1lt which appears to be the same engine. On both cars the valve and pipe was just dirty and I cleaned them the same way you did. Anyway great and useful video cyd keep it up. 😊👍

It seems to me that 'ALL' of your short videos are concise/well thought out/very helpful/ and a joy to listen to. And as a bonus in English which is nice for a change rather than 'some weird 'dialect' that quickly loses my attention! Unlike some of the blowhards, we seem to have in North American vehicle online repair help markets. Not ALL, but some are just irritating. Very helpful ideas and information even if we do not have your specific European vehicles here in Canada. I must admit most I have never heard of! Tis a shame because a small 3-cylinder vehicle is what's needed in congested city area driving.Especially these days. 3 cylinder vehicles have/are here but nobody really buys them and not looked at as a good choice of engine power. I wouldn't want to drive across Canada in one but used to do that in 1970,73,82, Toyota's buzz-box 4-cylinder vehicles. Not pleasant at all. But for in town, they are perfect.3 is better than 4. Fewer parts. I tend not to venture out in snow storms here even in my large vehicles! Too old for that nonsense. (retired at any rate). The biggest challenge I had is removing the PCV valve itself. On my Toyota Aygo, the PCV will not budge even if you pry it. I'm considering escalate the situation by removing the rocker cover (ordering a new cover gasket and PCV valve just for safe measure). My biggest concern is: I may not be able to get to the PCV from the back...

Okay so I totally acrewed uo. I didn't change my oil for 20k in my aygo and it started making some serious noises going round corners. Its been through 2 mots just fine, but it does have an intermitant engine warning light. Not really burning that much oil. Im thinking a PCV clean, oxygen sensor clean and use some restore oil in the next oil chance incase I have damaged the cylinder sidewalls. Car has done just over 100k, so some of these sensors may require replacement. I have recently matched my best tank range of 500 miles, so no real loss in efficiency. Any further thoughts? The car is a biy battered outside, but it works absolutely fine, so want to odeally see another 50k out of it. Save my self £25k over 5 years in car finance payments 😂😂

I cleaned the PCv valve and change the oil and filter and now I noticed that oil is coming out ( like wet around the cover)from the filling oil cap and that didn’t happened before, the filling cap was always dry. Any idea what’s happening?

Idle Air Contol ( IAC) clean it/ change it out. They show you online how to do it. Most are all the same. Cris Fix on youtube has a great little video on that issue.
Ssshhhh! Don't tell anyone, but that was a can of brake cleaner in the video - did you notice how you didn't get to see the tin properly. I actually prefer brake cleaner for this as it dries very quickly.
Great video... gonna do this tomorrow. I'm chasing a very rough idle on my 2007 Toyota Yaris. It seems fine when it's revved a bit and under normal load, but on idle it's quite rough, shakes the seats etc... I've taken cleaned the MAP sensor and the throttle body just wondering if you'd any other suggestions ?

I was looking at it when I made this video. A little peeling at the edges, but it seems to be holding up okay. A better and permanent solution would have been plastic welding, but I didn't think of that at the time.
@@CycloneCyd Thanks very much for the update. I found more gaps in mine when changing the air filter but have run out of epoxy so used Stixall. It's also peeling a little around the edges but, given the epoxy nearby, I didn't wedge open the gap & therefore wasn't expecting a robust seal. Like with silicone, the Stixall is also peeling at the edges. Epoxy, however, seems to hold up. I may try the rest of my Stixall on my aerial base since acetoxy silicone will rust any bare metal.
If the crankcase has a breather inlet - then surely, if the PCV valve gets stuck shut, the crankcase won't be pressurised as the blowby will simply get vented into the air cleaner? If it is stuck shut - then I can see you might draw in excess air while idling - but have no particular effect at higher engine speeds. What I struggle to understand is why a faulty PCV valve should ever cause excess oil consumption!!! (unless it was causing pressurisation of the crankcase). I've yet to find someone who can explain this to me!

Yes, change the oil every 5-7k miles OR twice a year with full synthetic 5w30. You should still check and clean the valve every 2-4 oil changes.

@@fizzil9858 I ended up using brutal force at the end. Two Flat heading screwdriver prying on both sides slowly at a steady force.

Is the EML on? If yes, what are the codes?
Check for vacuum leaks. Check spark plugs.
Okay so I totally acrewed uo. I didn't change my oil for 20k in my aygo and it started making some serious noises going round corners. Its been through 2 mots just fine, but it does have an intermitant engine warning light. Not really burning that much oil. Im thinking a PCV clean, oxygen sensor clean and use some restore oil in the next oil chance incase I have damaged the cylinder sidewalls. Car has done just over 100k, so some of these sensors may require replacement. I have recently matched my best tank range of 500 miles, so no real loss in efficiency. Any further thoughts? The car is a biy battered outside, but it works absolutely fine, so want to odeally see another 50k out of it. Save my self £25k over 5 years in car finance payments 😂😂

Part number is TOYOTA 12204-40030. Try main dealer as they seem rare as hens teeth.
@@ferenczsinko6770 Indeed haha. I finally cleaned the part with a carburator cleaner because I couldn't find any dealer. And it worked great. I'll save the reference for next time tho. Thanks for the info 👍
I cleaned the PCv valve and change the oil and filter and now I noticed that oil is coming out ( like wet around the cover)from the filling oil cap and that didn’t happened before, the filling cap was always dry.
Any idea what’s happening?
The cap is on properly? I'm sure the caps have a rubber ring seal - it hasn't fallen off has it?

Hi , I love your knowledge about this car . as you know the engine on this is similar to toyota aygo . my revs idle is very low do you know how to increase the idle just little bit ?
Idle Air Contol ( IAC) clean it/ change it out. They show you online how to do it. Most are all the same. Cris Fix on youtube has a great little video on that issue.
Changing your air filter once a year is another cheap trick/ for bugger-all money. $6-8 dollars here in Canada.
I don't have any carburetor cleaner. Would either brake cleaner or isopropyl alcohol be a suitable substitute? Thank you.
Ssshhhh! Don't tell anyone, but that was a can of brake cleaner in the video - did you notice how you didn't get to see the tin properly. I actually prefer brake cleaner for this as it dries very quickly.

@@74HC04 yeah, some brake cleaners contain acetone and this causes micro fractures in plastic - so yes, an acetone free one is the way to go.

Great video... gonna do this tomorrow. I'm chasing a very rough idle on my 2007 Toyota Yaris. It seems fine when it's revved a bit and under normal load, but on idle it's quite rough, shakes the seats etc... I've taken cleaned the MAP sensor and the throttle body just wondering if you'd any other suggestions ?
Might be sparks or cables that connect to them.

I was looking at it when I made this video. A little peeling at the edges, but it seems to be holding up okay. A better and permanent solution would have been plastic welding, but I didn't think of that at the time.
@@CycloneCyd Thanks very much for the update. I found more gaps in mine when changing the air filter but have run out of epoxy so used Stixall. It's also peeling a little around the edges but, given the epoxy nearby, I didn't wedge open the gap & therefore wasn't expecting a robust seal.
Like with silicone, the Stixall is also peeling at the edges. Epoxy, however, seems to hold up.
I may try the rest of my Stixall on my aerial base since acetoxy silicone will rust any bare metal.

If the crankcase has a breather inlet - then surely, if the PCV valve gets stuck shut, the crankcase won't be pressurised as the blowby will simply get vented into the air cleaner? If it is stuck shut - then I can see you might draw in excess air while idling - but have no particular effect at higher engine speeds. What I struggle to understand is why a faulty PCV valve should ever cause excess oil consumption!!! (unless it was causing pressurisation of the crankcase). I've yet to find someone who can explain this to me!
And one more question.If a stacked pcv valve provokes oil leak where the oil goes?
Cleaned the PCV valve, but it's still loosing oil. There's no black smoke from the exhaust or leaking from the sump plug. Any ideas?
