- Lightyear just dropped and boy it did not disappoint! It was a fun movie that was filled with Action, adventure, laughs and tears! Boy, did our favorite space ranger have an epic adventure this time around, it made us love Buzz even more. I can see why they created toys in Andy’s universe because it was far out, man! I’m just impressed about the CGI effects from 1995, because that’s when the film was supposedly released. This buzz is a bit different, he’s not a toy and he doesn’t sound like Tim Allen, mostly because supposedly the director didn’t want to use Tim Allen…awkward. He played the baritone himself Chris evans, the hunk of a man captain America himself. This adventure shows Buzz crash land on a strange planet with no fuel to travel at light speeds. Buzz and Team decide to stay for a year, so they can research new formulas for Light speed fuel. Buzz starts testing the flights, and we quickly learn that each time he flies at those speeds, he travels four years in the future, which only lasts a few minutes for him. Eventually he ends up 60-80 years in the future where his homebase is overrun by Zurg and his robots and he teams up with a motley crew to take down the robots and defeat Zurg and save his home base once and for all. Strap in and suit up!

When buzz mistakes his future self with his dad that is a reference to toy story 2 when zurg and buzz are battling on top of the elevator and zurg tells buzz that he is his father

I think what you're talking about is actually the Apple startup sound because I heard it as well. That was also used in Wall-e

Anyone who watched the Animated Series as a kid would have noticed that the suit Alisha's was wearing when she meant Buzz had the number 42 on it. In the Animated Series 42 was Buzz Lighteryear's Ship number.

this isnt the toy buzz. Its the astronaut the toy was based on. So it cant be the same voice
On the 1st post credit scene, you can see a trophy on the case to the left of burnside's office with the alien from toy story, aka little green men with the words PIXAR on it
Remember in Buzz’s first hyper speed test when it malfunctioned and he had to do calculations by hand in his cockpit window? I think that was a reference to the Apollo 13 film where it showed the astronauts trying to navigate home by drawing on their portholes
Also the composer of the film was Michael Giacchino who also composed for The Incredibles. Giacchino has a very 60’s sound and in The Incredibles it sounds very much like an old Bond movie. I think for Lightyear Pixar chose Giacchino instead of Randy Newman because of Giacchino’s 60’s sound. This was a way to pay homage to the 1960’s space race and exploration going on at the time!

@@chimpo961 I think the OP means that the Buzz Lightyear movie is live action in the Toy Story universe. The screenrant narrator seems to suggest that the CGI is impressive for its time in the Toy Story universe...but this is wrong as it's technically a live action movie if being watched from Andy's perspective

I don't think lightyear is CGI in the toy story universe. To us the toy story universe is CGI but to them its real life which would mean lightyear is live action played by actors, which is why the voice doesn't match the toy like most toys from blockbuster movies.

Tim Allen wasn't Buzz in this movie because Buzz the toy is a different person than the real Buzz.

Well, you didn't mentioned that one eyeblasting reference to Star Wars, whitch was actually the first thing I saw, and that is the "sword" on buzz's back, it is literaly the LightSaber, same way it cuts, same sword like appearance, the only diference is that it isn't only hilt but like a traning dull sword that will become deadly lightsaber with a touch of a button :D
This is a live action movie in 1995 Andy’s Universe… hence the CGI reverence doesn’t match.
This movie is basically a Star Wars reference the hyper speed the plan there outfits them rebelling
Star Command series was hella awesome

A few references screen rant missed are the swords at the start have lightsaber sound effects. The breathing in buzz’s mask is identical to Darth Vader and the orange floor on zurg’s ship is the same floor from the carbon chamber from empire strikes back
These are all great details! Looking forward to when this movie is on digital platforms to find even more things!
If Buzz is going +Sol at all he wouldn't be having very much time dilation unless you're completely anti-technical and don't GAF.
You missed the Easter egg from Toy Story 2 when Zurg says “I am your father”, obviously a reference to Star Wars. It’s funny cuz Zurg in Lightyear ends up being his older self from an alternate future. Kind of like an evil father.
Current Buzz even asks older Buzz if he's his father.

From what I understand, a lot of people missed more than just this list because they didn’t watch the movie at all.
This was a fantastic movie! The naysayers don't know what they're missing. But you did miss the reference to Aliens when Zurg ripped up the floor tiles chasing Buzz was a nod to the Alien queen chasing Ripley in the hanger of the Sulaco 👍
