    We drive the 2021 Mazda CX-3 AWD and see what this SUV is really like!
    Is the CX-3 still the best subcompact SUV? There are newer rivals now, like the Ford Puma, Volkswagen T-Cross, Hyundai Venue and Skoda Kamiq, but is the Mazda CX-3 still the king of the small crossover segment? We test out the 2021 CX-3 Akari AWD version to find out.
    Would you consider the CX-3? Are you waiting for an all-new Mazda CX-3? Is the CX-30 worth the step up in price?

    John Cadogan said in one of his TH-cam videos - MAZDA is the BMW of the East. I have a manual CX-3 it flys/flies...I don’t enjoy sitting behind a wheel & mainly just steering (zombie driving). I want the full Driving Experience of telling the Engine what to do - I love the power in this car going up very steep hills, mountains effortlessly. My Akira Zoom Zoom is 5yrs old, bought new $34K including all on road costs. I keep forgetting it has a Sunroof !!!! When I first bought it & parked - I would return & people would be standing around admiring the car. Young people would say I love this car....one day I will get one, I wish they were cheaper...... Ford no comment !

    Yup, "the sportscar of SUVs". Much like a lifted Miata. Have had a low miles soul red 2016 for 4 years, 33k miles now. Owned many sporty cars and autocrossed them, incl a new 83 GTI here in the states. This is the best all around sporty car I have owned. Added wide Michelin Sport Tires on 19 in rims. This thing sticks when pushed, even in rain here in NW USA at a road course in heavy rain. SKYACTIVE AWD is awesome.
    Ya fine hauling loads and 4 people too for RIAD Trips. Love it. BEST car ever owned in near 40 years. Reliable too, even with my hard driving.

    To each their own, I test drove this a couple of weeks ago and loved it. It was small enough that it doesn't feel like it would be too bulky to traverse a narrow road, it's punchy enough that it doesn't feel like it needs more power. Only gripe would probably be the price, I would have been happy if it was around the 25k mark but seems like everything is at a premium these days.

    We recently test drove the Toyota Yaris Cross and although the fuel economy was exceptional, the interior is a huge disappointment. The ride quality and engine is comparable but overall feeling (plus features) when driving - hands down goes to CX-3. The price is also quite a difference (about 4k less for CX-3) for the mid variant of both brands. We ended buying a soul red CX-3 🙂👍

      The Mazda 3 is a generation newer than the CX3, and since it’s basically a jacked up Mazda 2 has an interior that pretty closely follows. Given that the Yaris moved upmarket, hopefully that helps allow Mazda bring some of the 3’s magic down market in the next few years!

      I had an XV and replaced it with a CX-3, the XV was a great car but my local Subaru dealer kept messing it up during servicing, significantly overfilling oil and running like a dog afterwards more than once, don't know why but it was hard to find a Subaru servicing mechanic in my area that I could trust...
      The Mazda dealer only services Mazdas and no problem with my CX3 or wifes CX5 or her previous 6 post servicing, also the CX3 is more fun to drive than an XV when pushed through tight twisties and has a real automatic transmission with an excellent manual shift.

    Save five grand and get the FWD version as lets face it this in AWD is a bit of a pointless toss just making it heavier and less efficient.
    Based on the Mazda 2 is it not? Save another Five grand and just get that instead?
    Or for the same coin get the bigger Mazda 3?

      @chasingcars  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's a funny one. This is a pretty nice spec, and the AWD does give the CX-3 a little rally car persona and you can feel it on gravel … but who is really going to take a CX-3 on gravel roads more than once in a blue moon? Agree, lower-spec FWD is more justifiable but a hatchback is even more justifiable again.

    • @TheStigHCE09
      @TheStigHCE09 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Here's some funny little factoids with regards to the CX-3:
      - Even though it is 5cm taller overall than a Mazda2, it only rides 3mm higher than a Mazda2, and the seats are mounted no higher, thus eliminating one of the main reasons why people buy an "SUV."
      - The lower grades cost many thousands more than an equivalent Mazda2 and yet they do not have the same level of equipment, even in safety which is baffling.
      - The boot space is appreciably larger than the Mazda2, and it's technically a bigger car than a Mazda2, yet front, and particularly rear, shoulder and leg room is compromised.
      It really feels like the only compelling reasons to buy a CX-3 over a 3 or hell, even a CX-30 for the higher grades since they're about the same price bracket these days, is the styling.
      With the CX-3 over a 2 you're mostly paying for the bigger engine but I don't feel like that is justifying the premium.
