cool little trick ive found out get a ell chepo micro pulley from amazon like gm climbing micro pulley the same company that makes ur prusick .take the micro pulley put it behind the rope grab and clip it to ur same d ring that ur rope grab is hooked to and enjoy tending easilly with one hand keep the awesome vidioes a coming climb high n cut small mate
I've gotta try that! I have a few of those cheapo micro pulleys and use one on my DIY lanyard ... I'll try that today or tomorrow, as I've got plenty of climbing to do. thanks man
Spencer, you were over by a a minute and a half! Lol. I really appreciate your videos, I too miss the handyman job end of your business and videos! I have a dump trailer too, 14k 3' sides 6x12 that's black. I asked about other colors but they didn't have any!
Ya know, when I went out looking for a used trailer I thought "It's gonna be black." Of course, came home with dayglo green. lol ... thanks for checking it out! Those handyman days were awesome, but it's nice to move on and change with the times

You ever thought of using some of that wood? To make some money in your off time you could do some turning. You paint the ends of the wood and let it dry out behind your garage. Then you turn it into bowls or spatulas, wok tools...etc. There is a 3/4 hp HF lathe that is pretty decent but still cheap. I think it was #34706. I bought one and I have some maple, elm and apple wood seasoning around my property.
It's a great idea for sure ... I've been saving it in two piles: wood for firewood and wood to potentially make things with. I had an older lathe for a while but had some trouble getting the right fixtures for it ... I'll have to try again! :)
@@metaspencer like what? I bought a bunch of 5 homemade chucks many many years ago now from some home welder guy. They were just a nut welded to a heavy duty washer that you drill your own holes in for mounting screws to the wood. Basically for bowl and plate turning. BTW I really like the brown bag & glue trick - It's amazing it holds but it does.
Maybe get u a stump grinder to go along with the wood chipper. U can be a full service tree guy lol

You need a low pay "donk" assistant to load the cut branches onto the trailer! That part has to be tedious. You always make these handy Spencer episodes interesting. I guess you'll never run out of firewood!
I sure do need a donker! That part of the job can be grueling on a hot day, but at the same time nothing can beat the pleasure of hard work. As for the firewood, it's piling up! I'm super psyched about that :)
4:16 would a top handle electric saw with less power and chain speed be safer if it were to kick back at that moment? That is my theory anyway.

Did that honey locust have thorns? They can be nasty if they have them. Weird that magnolia died. The bark looked healthy. My in-laws have around a dozen of them. They’re loaded with lots of limbs. Are you near Cummins? I’ve gotten lots of trees and rootstock from them over the past 10 years.
That property had some weird landscaping issues: a newer McMansion type house with trees and plants installed on a ton of backfill ... so not ideal. As I recall the locust was totally crispy. No thorns tho, thankfully. They are intense! Haven't heard of Cummins ... our next batch of trees are coming through the county tree sale (this Saturday!)
Oh I forgot. Cummins goes by Indian Creek Orchard for local. Cummins for mail order. He was a professor at Cornell. He helped develop the Geneva rootstock there.

How did you learn to climb? I’m sort of getting interested in it, but have no idea how to approach learning it.
My deal is that I've had some rock climbing experience over the years and then transitioned into tree climbing, mainly because I was interested and find a TON of pleasure in it. You can take classes or some people find they can learn from the various tutorials online (even here on TH-cam). I'd say take it slow and focus a lot on safety
and cut the stubs off they can make the wood bounce all funny if ur aiming for a small drop zone

I thought honey locust trees had wicked thorns.
The thorns can even cluster on the trunk ... this one just had thorns on the branches, but it looks like it was dead a few years.

Thanks for checking it out! I notoriously undercharge, I think, but also try to do affordable work in poorer parts of town.
@@metaspencer i took down 7 trees in the ladies backyard, lot of work. I did get the trees but other people also get the wood around here and still charge. I just don't know how to price it out. Any help would be great.
@@Richardson501 I have a calculator that I use to figure prices. I should go through it in a video because it takes some explaining. In the most basic sense, I wanna be making a decent hourly, but overhead is important to account for.
