Doc talks to his "tree guy" and helps to explain the costs of having trees cut down. Doc uses both a small tree service and a larger tree company when the job gets big.

Great video. I wish every customer was as knowledgeable as this gentleman is.
Doc, thanks for this video, and to you and your tree man for an deep dive on tree removal. I live in a heavily wooded area and it's very helpful to know and understand why tree removal costs what it costs. The transformation of your property and what you have done to your new home place is just astounding.
Thanks looking forward to stocking the pond!!!
I love all the projects you got going. I am doing a lot of the same things on my property over here in Mississippi.
Used Porterfield a few years ago to get a big pine taken down. $800 to have it cut down and cut up. Seemed reasonable to me. Growing up in a family of loggers, I know how to cut trees, and cut most of the ones on my property that I was clearing. This particular one was too big for my comfort level so I called them. Friendly and fast. Money well spent.
Property is looking good!
Matt seems like a nice guy and would definitely try out his services... Too bad they don't serve my area. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Doc!
20 years experience felling trees. It depends on the location. Health of tree. Size. Species. Hazard or not. Power lines. Access to tree. Climb or crane
Expenses involved,.Equipment needed. Employees. Etc.
I had 25 taken out for 6k. I agree with many of the comments, it depends on equipment used and techniques used to take them down. All my trees were big pines no climbing or bucket truck. BTW DOC I'm your daughters next door neighbor.
That Perennial Rye grass is on fire!
Since I'm in tree service also, a large part of our cost is just the insurance. Plus another big factor not mentioned is where the tree is located. If it's really hard to get to, like right over a house or structure, or even on a really steep hill away from anywhere we can get a bucket truck too. Knowing how hard to remove it based on the time situation also makes a difference in price.
Exactly... thanks for the input
Doc, I really enjoy your videos, and your background music choice.
I have noticed something, you may already be aware of, those of us that get your emails for early release videos, don't get taken to youtube directly and can watch your videos and have no way of liking it.
I usuall wait till it shows up in my youtube feed.
Living The Dream...
There should be a link that says WATCH ON TH-cam.
They take all the responsibility for what they are doing. You have to pay for that.
The professional tree services make safety the number one priority. There is of course a cost for that. My personal experience has been that whenever I hire a good contractor I learn something valuable and what I learn is generally worth more than the extra they charge to do the work correctly and safely. Properties are investments - A cheap tree cutter can be very expensive.
I was charged 2400 this year for a big elm tree in the front yard, no removal. They did move it to the back for me.
Gives you an idea what it costs the utility companies that do this every day
Matt’s done well for himself. He could have sold tires for daddy but branched out on his on no pun intended
Enjoying the content
I guess prices vary. My neighbor just had a huge tree and and a medium tree removed very safely and professionally for $1500.
Kinda makes me sad but I get it. Just think about how much it would cost to replace them. Sure would like more pricing content though.
those equipment prices are for brand new equipment
every single time I need a tree removed, it costs more... last one had already fallen, 60ft hardwood, quotes between 1800 and 3000.
Those with a huge overhead charge more. It doesn’t mean they are better or safer. Just that they need to make up for all that money they spent or the payments for that equipment.
I had a tree like that big one taken down for $1,000 by a 2 man crew with no bucket truck or driven machinery. One day. All manual. Only thing powered were the chainsaws.
Okay tell me if I'm wrong please my neighbor when I was growing up used to take wood chips from a tree service two bales of hay and just enough dirt to bind it and he used to cover it with a black tarp and make compost he raised big giant beds of earthworms that he sold to the Bass Shops in our area so what I was curious about why you would not take the wood chips and pile them up and use those for compost just curious sir no more about it than I do
Watch the video coming this week. It explains it.
Wish this company worked in Gwinnett county. I've had to fire two large tree companies in the last 4 years. Crazy how unprofessional some tree companies have become. 😢
Haha, I was literally just wondering this. We are about to build in GA and there are 1 or 2 trees we might need to remove. Thank you for the video. Question wood chips: Will they just leave them on site for you to use? Or will that impact the price?
I’ve been told they are not like mulch. They will actually suck up moisture and minerals and smother the plants if you use it like mulch. Mulch is aged and “cooked” to get it to the stage where you can use it.
@@Mxtravelera quick google search refutes this. thanks tho.
They would rather leave them.
Leaving chips can be cheaper. Just know that fresh mulch that is not "cultured" can draw bugs.
Hey Doc I got true green coming to my house tomorrow in Nor California to aerate my lawn, we're supposed to get some rain next week, do you think it will be ok to over seed? Daytime Temp 70s Night low to high 40s.
I'm assuming rye overseed so yes.
@@bierbarrel hell I'm 67 , if you can beat there price of $150 come on!!!
Over half million dollars right there on equipment bud!!!
That is an old time tree guy. Now they have a million dollar truck that goes up and latches on and cots it don’t need any one in a bucket or tree
Speed of work is expensive. If you can let the job occur over a longer time, there's a lot to be said for DIY.
$500 per hour.
$1 G per tree
Damn, do folks not cut down trees everyday for firewood anymore. Some fella might pay you to let him cut down that tree.
We've taken down 86 trees so far.
No, that is not done generally. Wood is worth practically nothing; some tree companies have to pay to dump it. Trees often cost thousands of dollars to remove because of the expensive equipment, expensive skilled labor, and very expensive insurance. If you manage to find a firewood guy, he likely won't have any insurance and won't be too interested in branches/brush. If he drops a tree on your house, he might run away and you'll have a hard time collecting money for the damages, if you're sucessful at all.
No
He's lying to you if he says he has $500,000 in equipment there!
Math... only a few get it.
