People like us are why Apple continues to make these classic designed phones. I just prefer the design, it’s familiar and continues to be freshened up with every new version.
Great review. I’ve been waiting to see this comparison. Coming from a 5 year old iPhone 8 I had been anticipating the se 2022 release but was underwhelmed when the specs came out. So I leveled up and bought the 12 mini last Friday. Very happy with the upgrade.
I also have an Iphone 8 and wanna get either the new Se or 12 mini.. Is it easy to get used to not have the home button anymore??? Im afraid im so used to it😆
@@bbygrlpt2 Hello, don't be ;). Home button is smth we get used to, but that swipe action is very well designed and thought of. Actually I'm with SE2 and looking for an upgrade. From the review, despite the price tag difference, 12mini is the better choice at least for me. 4.7 inches compared to 5.4 - this is the other main reason, along with the camera and faster job done ( at least in the review ). Have a great evening ;)
@@ms.eflevoland687 Hello :). I am still with SE2 ( 2020 ) - pls excuse me if I made you think other way. So, could not say anything from first person experience. Either way, I am looking for 12mini or 13mini - well, the price tag here plays major role ;). Hope to sort whatever issue you have and to have the phone you wanted. P.S. Just to be on the safe side, you're with latest iOS available, right ?
Proud 12 Mini user here. Battery is subpar but managable because I use iPad on most of the time when at home. Will wait for iPhone 15 or 16 and going straight to the Pro models
Love my 12 Mini, don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. Need to replace the battery soon though as it’s down to 86% battery health after daily HEAVY use for over a year.
Still using my indestructible 5s and can't decide, should I switch to 21 Mini, 13 Mini , SE or wait ... as I see they all the same and no big difference. Nice review, thank you!
@Jazz 16 Thank you for advice. To be honest, my 5s surprisingly alive. I just have ordered my 3-rd protective case for it. The downside noticed - Starbucks application doesn't work any more, otherwise the rest - calls, messages, pictures, internet, navigation works fine.
I'm in the same boat. Finally thinking of switching from my old SE first gem as upgrading from iOS 13.5 seems a bit too risky and it's starting to not be able to run some apps. I'm hesitating between a 12/13 mini for the size and square shape or the SE third gen for the home button. But both would mean to loose the jack port and the top button. So hard to change habits but I guess it's gonna have to happen one day.
@@OlivKas540 My thought s like this - when I bought the 5s it was 9 years ago and it was the "flagship". If I would need to replace it right now, I will probably go for something also new, but not necessary latest. So will pass on SE 3-rd gen (although i do like Home button) and will think about 13 mini , maybe 12 mini, but as I noticed, it almost couldn't be found as new.
If I had to guess, despite the better chip, I would guess that UI is generally optimized for knotch iPhones. They probably do a read of your firmware, and make a config file for the app layout. The extra time would come from the app cycling through layout options. The system apps have the the layout baked in, so the chip makes a difference for those. Though I think you were a little prejudgmental on the SE. I feel like it did slightly better than the mini. I’ll rewatch to see if I miscounted on your tests.
I agree, i think everyone's just judging the SE 2022. Okay its a old body etc, but it's actually very powerful. Its very fast too. The SE is a budget phone. So your not expecting a phone to look exactly like the flagship phone are you
Apple hopes once you are in the apple echo system via iPhone se 3 then you will use there services and buy other phones. Most people don't leave once well established in apple or Android so selling a cheap iPhone will will get you millions of new iPhone users.
Thank you for the video, I am considering buying a refurbished iPhone and was looking into these two options in particular. As a few others have mentioned you should have mentioned battery stats as battery capacity has been an issue with previous SEs. Regarding the performance check: it sounds simple but have you tried switching hands and did you end up with a different result? I know you're trying your best to tap with both fingers simultaneously but the difference in performance really is about milliseconds, so this might influence the test.
Thanks for this! I currently have an iPhone 12 Mini as a work phone, but I'm leaving this company and have to give it back, so I'm debating whether it's worth going for the newer SE.
I have the newest Samsungs and iPhones. I just recently bought a se3 from Walmart for $150. I can honestly say it is actually a great phone other than the no Face ID thing
I'm thinking wait for the iPhone 14 series to come out and the 12 mini should drop from $600 down to $500. At $500 the 12 mini is a better purchase than the SE 2022 at $430.

500 of these stupid speed tests but no battery drain comparison. Who cares about what pops up 0.002seconds faster when those chips are superior to the needs of any user.
I do want to let you know the iphone se is much easier and cheaper to fix. If you plan on keeping for 3+ years you will need the battery replaced. Which is super easy on the se but the mini is one of the hardest to safely fix. The mini display seems to be very easy to crack.
@Molly C I think thats a good choice. I went with the 12 coming from SE1. Its got a great picture, bigger screen, and takes great pics but I miss the home button. face doesnt open up when its dark, my hand is used to typing with the bezel so i keep accidentally hitting the number pad which messes up my typing. and sometimes the screen will shift by accidentally touching the bottom portion when texting or playing a game. what i miss the most is how easy it was to open my phone with my finger. wish apple would make a phone with both face and touch id.
