    I now have two 3776, one with the stock medium nib and the other with their music nib. I also went with the lowest price & ended up with the Chartres blue and Bourgogne models. I'm not sure yet whether I like them, love them or am neutral towards them. The medium is very smooth but so is a Preppy. It's also a nail, but so is a Preppy. The music one is little different than a narrow stub, a 1.1 at most. My Custom 74 however, also the cheapest I could get, is absolutely fantastic for me.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have been struggling to decide between the Platinum 3776 and the Pilot Custom 74, and your video has been a great help. Thank you! x

      You're welcome Angela! They're both great pens. I'm glad I could help. 😀

    First, the nib on a x750 is a #6, not a #5.
    I've owned more than fifteen Jinhao x750 pens. Three of them are still intact. They just don't stand up to hard use. And many of the x750 pens look like they're lacquered, but it's really just a thin layer of paint. The x450 is a much better pen. So is the 8802, the 950, and most of the dragon pens with the exception of the 5000, which is junk.
    The ones I mentioned, and probably two or three other models, would cost from fifty to ninety dollars, if made in Europe or the United States, so they're more than good enough to put a new nib on. A surprising number of people even put gold nibs on them,. and they're worth that, too.
    Anyway, the x450 is simply made better than the x750, and has far fewer inherent problems. In either case, though you can go cheap, buy a Goulet Jowo nibs for twenty bucks or less, and you instantly have a pen worth from fifty to seventy five dollars, and maybe a bit more.
    The 3776 and the Custom 74 are both very good pens. I prefer the 3776 for two reasons. One is that the green version is exactly what I look for in a pen. The other is that the Custom 74 has a very bad habit of leaking ink down into the grip section. This doesn't interfere with how well the pen writes, but I still find it annoying.
    The 3776, on the other hand, does usually have a lot more feedback than the 74, or than most other brands of pens. This is intentional, but if you don't like it, and I don't, it's easy to remove in only a minute or so using micromesh and/or Mylar.
    But both are very good pens, and I think compare well to the Sailor 1911S.

      If the x450 is a better quality pen than the x750, that's impressive. I'm very fond of the build quality of my two x750 pens and the only issue I've had is the unpleasant nib on one of them. That was an easy fix though.
      At the moment, the Custom 74 with a fine nib is my favorite pen. Like you mentioned, the ink that gets trapped in the section is an annoyance and it's a little too long when posted, but I'm able to overlook those shortcomings because I like everything else so much.

    Thank you for your wonderful videos; I could listen to you all day :) After your video I checked all of my 3776s and yes there's a seam only on the section. Checking out the demonstrators, Bourgogne, Chartres, the sections are definitely made of a different material than the rest of these resin pens. As for the Platinum nibs, I find them to be incredibly smooth, though not as smooth as a Graf Von Faber Castell, but slightly smoother and a different feedback than the Sailor 1911L. If you do want a "smoothness reference point," see if you can try out a Sailor King of Pen, a wonderful experience!

    What can I do if the ink dries? In a meeting, I wanted to use my pen but I couldn't write because the ink was dried. I pumped a little to help the ink flows. People looked at me when I was doing this and I was ashamed that my pen not functioned properly. How can I assure that my ink pen is going to function at all times when I need to use it in front of others?

    • @tomcatkzn
      @tomcatkzn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a simple solution. Just slip the pen into the cap, without screwing it in, and take it out to write. Works perfectly for me on a number of pens I use in meetings.

    Nice video. I always wanted a medium but the fine lines you write is really tempting. Can you please show a video comparing Platinum M and F writing fast. It will be very helpful. Because for speed writing as in the case of writing a signature, I think F will skip or may not have enough line variation that gives the signature its distinct character. Can you please comment on this. Also please tell which is the ink used in the video. Thanks

    I have three Jinhao X750s and all have "troubled" writing performance (hard starts, skips, oddly inconsistent line widths word-to-word, etc.). Comparing a Platinum or a Pilot to the Jinhao is kind of unfair. They work, the Jinhao pens rarely do.

    • @tomcatkzn
      @tomcatkzn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the comparison is fair, since its about the writing experience, not anything else. One can upgrade the nibs on the Jinhao as I have done on all of my X750's and 450's, and they write beautifully. There was nothing really wrong with the original nibs on any of mine other than the fact that I dont use medium nibs, only fine. A 0.4 mm is my sweet spot. I fell into the trap initially of thinking that a gold nib was some sort of guarantee to a more pleasant writing experience, but thats just not true.

    Do you think the 'F' of the 3776 is already finer than the 'EF' of western and chinese pens in general? Because I reallly like fine lines, so I am deciding about buying this pen, with either the 'ef' or 'uef' nib.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Platinum 3776 fine nib is more fine than my Western fine nibs, but the only experience I have with Japanese EF nibs is the Pilot 78g (EF). Gourmet Pens and Goldspot pens have good videos with writing samples from all the 3776 nib sizes.

      Thank you, I have decided for the Platinum 3776 'UEF' after all, I like to practice Business Penmanship, and for it, the finer the most elegant.

    Hi, thank you for your detailed review.
    I want to ask you how does the clear demonstrator body hold in time? Is it prone to schrach or you can see it or maybe yelloing tint on the body?
    Thank you,

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm pretty careful with my pens, so I don't know how prone it is to scratching, but the plastic has not yellowed and remains clear.

    I had always wanted to try the 3776. I've mostly been interested in its Ultra-Extra Fine nib. I've always found the pen to look classy. I have been trying to decide between the 3776 and the newer Procyon.
    I am also curious if I would enjoy that pen more than my Platinum Standard (a.k.a. PTL 5000A), which has become my standard daily writer. Both are Platinum's more affordable gold nib pens. But the 3776 does have that classier, upgraded look.
    Do you find that you can leave the 3776 uncapped for a long period of time without the nib drying out? That has been one of my biggest concerns for buying the 3776. I want a pen where I can have pauses in notetaking without having hard-starts.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      During everyday use, I don't have hard starts with the 3776. But in this video it did have a hard start at the beginning of the writing sample, so that shows how long you can leave it uncapped.
      I wish there were more pen shops so that we could hold pens before deciding to buy. It's impossible to advise a person about which pen they would like best when both are outstanding.

    • @abumpers7834
      @abumpers7834 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I own a procyon and a 3776. They are both great in my opinion. If I were buy another of either it would be the procyon. It uncaps in 3/4 of a turn and you can refill it without dipping your grip in the ink.
      As far as leaving your pen uncapped for a while and not having it dry out, I would look towards a wet ink. Or you could water down your ink a little bit yourself.

      I think they were referring to the gold playing on the trim. The nib is solid gold and very nice.

      No it doesn't, I've had mine for over a year using it constantly and none of the gold paint has come off. Maybe it looks fake but it isn't "garbage" you absolute goof
