What would you choose? Sailor Professional Gear, Pilot Custom 74 or Platinum Century #3776?

Pilot for writing, but sailor for art :) I do love all three.
I don’t think there is a best though, I feel all the nibs have have their strengths and weaknesses.
Pilot do exceptionally smooth nibs with interesting filling mechanisms and offer a vast variety of nib sizes and grades. Plus you have namiki for high end pieces!
Sailor are a more youthful brand and is certainly more collectible than all the other 3. You also get more interesting nib choices and arguably the prettiest nib designs of all thee companies. Also, they collaborate more than the other 2 companies with shops!
Platinum, offer the best value of all 3 and is extremely scalable in terms of collecting. Ranging from arguably the most well known abs cheapest pen in the game! The platinum preppy is by far the best value writer out there! Also, you get access to Nakaya, which not only has the best urushi out of all 3 companies, they also provide the best customisation service too!
But to sun it up, pilot for those that enjoy western writing and a more business like pen experience(plus namikis makie, which is arguably the best there is). Sailor for their wonderful collectibility factor and platinum for value and urushi!

I have a Custom 74, and it doesn’t thrill me like other Pilot gold nib pens….Sailor Pro Gear I like, but given a choice, I almost always use the 3776. As the saying goes, if I had to choose just one pen to use for the rest of my life, it would be the Platinum 3776. It’s the perfect size, the perfect weight, and the best writer.

I have several pens each from Sailor, Pilot and Platinum. I love them all dearly. Everything considered, and if forced to choose just one, I’d go with Sailor - their 21k nibs (and the 14k) across the size spectrum (and I have them all, except EF) are absolutely sublime. Alongside Aurora’s nibs, Sailor’s are my absolute favorites. The Pro Gear and the KoP remain the strongest favorites among my Japanese pens. Pilot comes second, and Platinum, third.

Well I currently prefer PILOT, their build quality is the best, also they have very unique designs like Metal-falcon or Justus95 or Capless. Sailors have nice colours and are like pencils in terms of feedback. Platinum aka 3776 is as good as any more expensive pilot or sailor, but its not as nicely finished as Pilot, gotta love the Soft-fine and UEF nibs and superb ergonomics of 3776 too also its relatively affordable so you can try out special nibs cheaply.

I have the platinum 3776 F nib and the sailor pro gear slim in MF. I've never tried pilot gold nibs, only the kakuno. 😅
Pilot kakuno cost like 12$ in my country including the converter, and it's very, very smooth. I could imagine how comfortable it is with a pilot gold nib.
Sailor has amazing built and i like the heavier body and it looks amazing. But the nib is very feedback-y, most black inks would look grey like a pencil. Very stiff even in 14k gold.
Platinum has amazing nib, it's very smooth and flows well, but also providing enough feedback. I just wish the built quality is as good as sailor pens. Love how the nib looks too.
So I think I very much prefer platinum pens ☺

I don’t have any of the 3 pens. I do have a Sailor Pro Gear KOP with M nib and a Namiki Yukari Royal with M nib as.well. The Sailor is a very precise writer and is appreciated more by experienced and serious fountain pen users. The Namiki, similar to Pilot, is buttery and smooth. Easy to appreciate and enjoy by a wide range of users. Since I don’t have a Platinum pen that’s the one I would go for. If Platinum is taken off the table, I would probably go for the Pilot. Cheers!

I have pens from all three brands. Sailor PG slim is much smaller pen, it's more suitable for small hands. Pilot Custom I have 742, it's quite big pen, Platinum 3776 is somewhere in-between, and for my hand it's optimal size. Regarding the writing - I have all 3 with different nib options (Medium, Soft Fine, and medium fine), so it cannot be compared directly.

So far I have a Sailor 1911 Realo and a Sailor Pro Gear Realo.
As for Pilot, I own a Custom 823 and Vanishing Point.
I can't give you a definite answer because I adore the feedback I get from my 1911 Realo. There's just something about it so pleasant. I do need add that I require it to be posted when writing with it and I have medium sized hands. I love the classic beauty of this pen.
Then there's the Custom 823 that is buttery smooth straight out of the box and the ink capacity is amazing. I don't post this one because it is just a perfect cigar looking shape. I like the demonstrator aspect of this one.
I can't edge either of these out. I tend to use the 1911 Realo for pleasure and the Custom 823 for work as it is more practical.
My favorite at the moment however is none of this, but I recently obtained a Visconti Homo Sapiens Crystal Dream and it is a G.O.A.T. for me and a grail pen so far. The looks, the feel, just perfection. I just used it for everything because it's perfect.

Pilot is the smoothest of the big three. Platinum and Sailor both have a "pencil like" style of feedback. Although with sailor it gets smoother when you go up into the nib grades. Sailor is also a bit drier writing, by design I guess. It's very precise, very sort of a 5.5 or 6 out of 10 for wetness. I enjoy them, and they're all very close. But it's weird. I think Pilot is the best overall, But both platinum and sailor do some things better than pilot does.

    A suggestion.
Don't use the word 'scratchy'. It generally portrays a negative characteristic of the nib. It's associated with damaged nib, misalignment etc.
Use 'feedback' instead. The sound which the nib makes in contact with paper is 'feedback'. It doesn't portray any negative characteristic. It's something 'special' with the nib.

Pilot 74 all day ever day. Better writing experiences. Nib is springy and smooth. Large ink capacity, cap insert, pilot customer service, easy to clean, easy to fill with ink. I prefer the size, weight, the balance of the Pilot 74 The feel of the nibs on tne other two pens with unpleasant feedback and stiff nibs make the writing experiences similar to a pencil not a quality fountain pen. The consitent quality of pilot nibs is also a huge benefit.
