@Colleen Wilkowske ok so typically you're folding the right or pretty sides facing each other then sewing together so the seam is on the wrong side and unseen. I have to assume on the ones laying side by side it's with the front or pretty sides down. You'd be sewing onto the wrong or back side so the seam is unseen.
could you please do a video on joining the sides? i'm not sure what you call those edges, but i can't seem to find a video on what stitch is best for joining those. thank you!
@jxira_ I’m also making a Harry sweater. In this vid she shows how to sew the rough sides but it’s a little hard to see… I hope it helps tho. th-cam.com/video/zH3jxfqbYig/w-d-xo.html
So glad I found this video. It shows how to easily do this stitch which is a favorite of mine to join garment pieces together. TYSM for sharing this video with us.
Thanks for this video, I was able to use this technique on 2 knitted lace items that needed to be seamed together. This was the only instruction that I found helpful for my project.
Thank you, yours is a fine demonstration! My project is a shrug 🤷🏻♀️ which starts out as a lace rectangle. The short sides of the rectangle are sewn to create sleeves and I will be using your seaming method.
Thank you! I have been avoiding projects with this stitch because the other videos I have watched did not explain this in a way I could understand. Now I know how to do it!
Hi! Was with u in the beginning - it looked like u were going thru both sides of the stitch (that is both loops of the 'v") but around stitch 7 it looked like u were going only thru one side of the stitch - can u pls help me out - do u go thru both loops of the stitch or only one loop of the stitch. Many tks. Enjoyed yr video.
Hello. I really like how the seam looks on this. Could you tell me if the right sides are together, or the wrong sides ... or does it matter? Just by looking at your video and how you are joining the pieces ... it looks like right sides are facing each other ???
There is a right and wrong side in crochet. I saw a tutorial on this stitch and it said to work from the right side to make sure the stitches were neat.
AWESOME!!! Love this! Was actually looking for this type of video months ago! You mentioned "slip stitches" would also work... feel free to let me know if you have a video on that one Ashlea, or would consider making one! I'll give this mattress stitch a try on joining some sample swatches once I'm actively crocheting again! I've always wanted to learn how to make squares of my choice/sample swatches, and join them together without any lumps or puckering or ridges etc. Great job! 😍
This is probably a dumb question but how do you finish it off? I’m making a crocheted sweater vest and my next step is sewing together the front and back but idk what to do once the sides are attached. Do I just make knots with the yarn on the inside?
Hi I’m currently working on a stuffed animal project that had me crochet flat pieces and then see them together. This technique has been the only thing close to what I’m trying to do. How would you go about this stitch if your yarn is not attached at the beginning?
I know this question might sound stupid but I’m a absolute beginner anyways what do you do once your done like do you tie it or something because for me the yarn just keep falling out?
No such thing as a stupid question! I just weave that tail back and forth through the yarn fibers a few times...you could do a small knot to secure it better before weaving the tail. I hope this helps!
So I ran into a problem while making a blanket I need to make the blanket bigger so I started a new one is there a way can I use this to combine the two blankets I would anybody recommend crocheting the edges to make it more even and then bigger
Heart Hook Home I appreciate the quick response, I noticed that I made the beginning to tight so it curves a lot but now I’m more even is there an easy way to fix that or should I undo the beginning and redo that? Lol is there a forum you might recommend where I can ask these question or something like that

Thank YOU. This is the first time I really understood what to do. The "lacing shoes" is a great reference. Great turtorial.
Absolutely brilliant. Thank you for explaining this stitch so clearly, making sense of it and illustrating perfectly why it works and how to do it.
Lacing shoes is indeed a perfect explanation. And your video simplified what I'd thought was a daunting new skill. Thank you!!!!
Thank you! Nobody ever says whether it's the wrong or right side facing me when I do this. I've watched so many videos

Best video on how to do the mattress stitch! Consise and easy to follow! Nice job!
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!
Wow this is the clearest tutorial I've seen for Mattress stitch. Thanks!
Your site is such a good resource when I need a refresher!

YES EXACTLY

Thank You ! I love this so much! It looks so nice. You can’t even tell you sewed it together.
So glad I found this video. It shows how to easily do this stitch which is a favorite of mine to join garment pieces together. TYSM for sharing this video with us.
you saved my sanity, i have 30 large solid rectangles to put together, this makes it fun. thank you
Ashley this was the best tutorial for this I have ever seen!!
Thanks for this video, I was able to use this technique on 2 knitted lace items that needed to be seamed together. This was the only instruction that I found helpful for my project.
Never done mattress stitch before, brill, doing a harry styles cardigan going to look fab. Thanks Kathy england
A perfect tutorial! You demystified this stitch so clearly thank you!
This is perfect, thank you! I’ve been needing to join squares for a shawl and was struggling to accomplish it. This helped me so much!
Glad it was helpful!
I am making a cardigan that called for this stitch. Thank you! I also make hats for foster kids and this will be what I use stitching up the sides!
I wish I could add a picture. I'm using this stitch to put together a blanket and I just love the look of it. Thank you!!!❤❤❤
Thank you, yours is a fine demonstration! My project is a shrug 🤷🏻♀️ which starts out as a lace rectangle. The short sides of the rectangle are sewn to create sleeves and I will be using your seaming method.
This was very helpful, thank you! Now I need to go look at your patterns while I'm here!
Thank you for this tutorial, I've been looking for this stitch and you showed it in such a easy way to remember, like lacing up a shoe.
Thanks so much for this!! ❤️ I knew there was a better way to seam than what my pattern suggested! ❤️
This was perfect for a market tote I was making. Thanks!
❤ yhwnk you for your time!
Beautiful job. Thanks for sharing.

She stitched both (v). You can't see clearly because the 2 parts begin to face each other.
@@cosycatcris tk u - much appreciate it

In crochet, the right and wrong sides are alike, so it doesn't matter.
There is a right and wrong side in crochet. I saw a tutorial on this stitch and it said to work from the right side to make sure the stitches were neat.
@@kathywilliamson7907 definitely not true.
Good 👍 from India 🇮🇳
Can please do a 4 hdc squares joining?i really want learn it and to make it perfectly for my cardigan

Yes! I have a tutorial for joining squares with slip stitch here: th-cam.com/video/FRSaTCFludY/w-d-xo.html
Wait! Is this seam on the right side of the work?? Or the wrong side? Start of video doesn't say~
It's usually on the wrong side

You can make a small knot on the inside and then weave in your tail.
Thanks for the tutorial!
I believe you have the wrong sides together doing this stitch, right?
Yes, I typically do wrong sides together when using the mattress stitch.
@@HeartHookHome Thank you for your reply!
great tutorial!!!! thank you!!!!!!!
Very good, ty needed to a stitch for my granny squares.👍👍👍👍
This video iij s just what I needed. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
This is right side facing together? I am assuming so since at the end, it wasn't flipped over to see.
right sides facing or wrong sides facing?
What I've gathered from other mattress stitch videos: Right sides should be facing you. This is the "public side" that people will see.
Thank you so much 😊
What if you're sewing the sides together and not the top or bottom? Is it the same process?
Yup : )
Is it right sides together or wrong sides together, please?
I do right side together.
Funny I just watched this and realized after that this is for doing one of your patterns. 😊
If the pieces are diferent colors how do you pit them togheter?
Will you be able to see the stitches if you used a different color?
Hi I’m currently working on a stuffed animal project that had me crochet flat pieces and then see them together. This technique has been the only thing close to what I’m trying to do. How would you go about this stitch if your yarn is not attached at the beginning?
So that’s the shoulder seems which seems straight forward enough but what about the sides?
Hi! It would be the same concept...except for stitch for stitch, it would be row for row.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you❤
How do you end it it thoo😭😭
I know this question might sound stupid but I’m a absolute beginner anyways what do you do once your done like do you tie it or something because for me the yarn just keep falling out?
No such thing as a stupid question! I just weave that tail back and forth through the yarn fibers a few times...you could do a small knot to secure it better before weaving the tail. I hope this helps!
How do you join the sides?
This is a great tip, thank you for sharing 😊
❤ Thank you
Are you going thru thru both strands ? On each side or one
Yes, both strands.
Thank you
Right faces together or wrong sides together? Does it matter?
I typically do it with wrong sides facing together because I think it looks nicer.
THANNK YOUUU🤗
Omg thanks so much for this tutorial
Thank You!
You're welcome!
So I ran into a problem while making a blanket I need to make the blanket bigger so I started a new one is there a way can I use this to combine the two blankets I would anybody recommend crocheting the edges to make it more even and then bigger
You could probably get away with combining the two and then adding a border to the whole thing to tie it all together. Good luck!
