Shoulder Seam Tutorial - Seam Bind Off Edges Together

- Welcome to the Blue Mouse Knits! Today I'll be walking you through a shoulder seam which is a really common finishing seam when working sweaters and cardigans in particular. For this finishing technique you take 2 bind off edges and work a simple horizontal seam that makes an invisible seam. I work this seam on 2 stockinette pieces that used a standard knit bind off to finish. The same principle will work even when not working in stockinette though.
I made a tutorial for this at the beginning of my channel 5 years ago. This is the new and improved version, this will give you an even cleaner and more invisible seam for your horizontal edges. I hope you guys find this video helpful!

aahh thank you soo much!! I'm working on my first ever sweater and I've literally had all the pieces sitting in my closet for a month because I was too scared to start seaming but this tutorial was so clear and concise and helpful! It came out so neat and perfectly lined up (even though I had to restart a couple of times haha) but I'm confident I can seam up the rest of it now, thank you again! 🩷
Yay! I'm so glad you were able to finally finish your project :)
I’m knitting my first ever sweater and this was very clear and easy to understand. Makes way more sense than the written tutorial with pictures that I was trying to use. Thanks!

Excellent video as you gave detailed clear and understandable video along with your voice telling exactly what you were doing. Loved the video. I have only knit raglan sweaters so I did not have to face sewing seams together but your video made it so simple I will definitely have to try it. Thank you!

❤ awesome thank you
Hi my dear
May I ask you please
But what about when there is a different stitches not this one
Many thanks for the lovely explanation
Hope to find the reply for my question
Have a nice weekend
Fatima
Hi, if you do a standard knit bind off (or a purl bind off on WS rows) then it should leave an edge that is easy to work this seam. Hope that helps
Terrific video!
Where do I go to find more? (Like picking up stitches to make a neck or arm band)
Thank you! I have 2 videos coming out in the next week and a half about picking up stitches. One for picking up along a vertical edge like for an armband or button and and the other video for picking up along a cast on/bind off edge. There both coming out super soon! ❤️
Hi! that's great! I have a question: you say to take both legs of the same stitch in the top piece, but you seem to get the stitch in the same way of the bottom piece. Shouldn't the full stitch in the top piece have upside-down v shape?
Are the right sides up and abutting each other?
Any tips on finding the legs for rib or purl stitches?
What about when you have a shaped shoulder?
Hi Anna, do you mean a sloped decrease shaped shoulder (where you have different bind off sections)? I haven’t done one of those in years, but I think it would work the same for that, it just would be a little more confusing because you have sections instead of a flat bind off edge
@@TheBlueMouseKnits Yes - don't want it to look 'stepped'. Thanks for your quick response and I'll do my best! :)
