You know what's funny to me. Sonic has had so many animated movies, shows, cartoons. But to this day, to this very day, this single piece of animation to me is probably the most accurate portrayal of sonic in animated form. Literally nothing will ever beat this.

If you're interested in animation and you're ever struggling with timing and spacing, staging, knowing the difference between snappy and subtle timing or even the whole idea of maintaining momentum in your character animation, do yourself a favor and spend an hour frame-by-framing this whole intro. Really see the difference in the spacing going from wide and broad to really tight hang times on Sonic in the air for clarity allowing your eyes to take a break at the right moments. Look at how the breakdowns and inbetweens are vastly different poses but each one has its own purpose. More importantly, the actual drawing and how forceful and gestural Sonic feels throughout, as in how he's using his own dexterity and weight to throw himself from wall to wall or rock to rock. A lot of these poses aren't even necessarily about what you are seeing but more about what you should be feeling. Even the camera work keeping your focus on Sonic as he tears through this vast open space. Not a single frame of film went to waste throughout. As an animation director I can confidently say that this whole intro is a masterclass in animation itself, and should really be preserved and studied by animation students or anyone interested in breaking down how animation works. Or more importantly, what animation can really do to capture your innermost sensations.
Not as experienced with animating but I've been interested in it for a while, and I think this take is very agreeable. I was immediately impressed with just how natural and fluid the animation was when I saw it in-game recently.
I have nostalga for this intro because back in 7th grade I had a friend who went to Japan and came home with a Sega CD from Japan and a Japanese copy of sonic CD we popped it in to the Sega CD and the first thing we saw is this and we loved it this is truly a masterpiece
Even though the cinematic scenes in the original Sega CD game was very low-rez, and pixalized, with fewer colors, it still looked good for it's day. Remember this was back in 1993 when cinematic scenes in most games looked like still image slide shows.
Toei Animation could had made one the best Sonic shows of all time if SEGA partnered up with them and decided to let them make a show for Sonic. But to be fair if SEGA didn't partner up with DiC and ABC, the Sonic franchise wouldn't be the same without AOSTH and SATAM. Still wish Toei made a Sonic show.

Yeah! This anime style (and Tyson Hesse style) is for Classic Sonic what CGI is for Modern Sonic! The ideal Classic Sonic is this one, while the idean Modern Sonic is the CGI we see since 2005!
@piplup10203854 Rainbows are created when light travels through drops of water and refract and are viewed from a certain angle. Rainbows actually do not exist as anything other than light. He didn't make a rainbow, he splashed water around. The fact that the water turned into a rainbow is just a funny exaggeration to make the character seem amazing. Which he is. Rainbow 101: All rainbows are double rainbows. There are just a lot of variables that affect visibility of the second arc.
I love how the intro shows how sonic is so fast and unstoppable, then in game hes wayyyyy off the speed in the intro and slow. He's still fast, but still. Just imagine canon speed in game though..

That’s awesome. I was actually living in Japan when this came out I played both versions. I love both soundtracks, on both some songs are hit and miss

Honestly Sonic CD is one of the most epic games with the coolest soundtrack of all Sonic games (and maybe even other games beyond the franchise)

Sad fact:Casey Rankin (the writer and VA of this song) died. He died at age 62 in 2009 and were born in 1946
