さりん I think it has something to do with rivalry between parents and their children. I am a “millennial” and I tend to romanticize the generations that I only read about or watched movies about because in movies and books you can rarely truly see the whole picture. I tend to see men from the 1940’s as “brave & honorable” heroes and the women as “ladylike classy angels” ... but there are many details that movies will not show us, for example:
There was heavy propaganda to shame men that did not want to enlist and also a bunch of violence/bigotry against women making a “helpless docile woman, the perfect movie character for those times”. I think boomers flaws are a product of their environment/parenting and socio economic situation while they grew up (getting a stable long term job was easier after the war, and now that they are retiring they truly do not care that much about the consequences of their past actions, and honesty there is little they can do now about it), the millennials have a completely different situation to live with. But then again, I guess boomers could also criticize their parents for having taken part of wars and the negative effects that conflicts can leave (for example boomers had to clean up the mess left after chemical warfare was done even several decades after conflicts ended etc...).
I see it as: older generation drops a glass of milk and walks away... younger generation is left to clean it up.
It can apply to several generations it only depends who you as about it.
Our kids might complain about something wrong we are cluelessly doing now and so on.

Jeremy Davis . . .they already are attacking other people’s businesses. Attacking people’s lives as well. If these hackers would erase a fraction of America’s student loan debt, it would allow so many people (myself included) to actually use their degree to its fullest potential and not just exist to pay back interest on a loan for 20/30+ years. . .

Straynar but hacking into a computer allows you to snatch things up for free, whether you’re taking from the average person or a national bank, hacking costs nothing and unlike a typical robbery/heist, it also provides anonymity. . .which is probably why it’s so popular

This is why you should always backup, backup, backup. Because if you have backups and you get hit with a ransomware (what this kind of virus is called) And your backups are up to date and they actually work. Then you can just restore without paying the ransom. Which you should never do as it tells the cyber criminals that this is profitable and then they'll continue to do it.

It's funny how the definition of "hacked" has changed in the past decade or so. "Hacking" used to be bypassing the security (eg. passwords) to gain unauthorised entry into a system/account. But in lots of cases, this is not how it happens. The scammer simply tricks you into giving out your password, download a file, install something etc. The weakest link is always the human being.

    • @spenserhickssh
      @spenserhickssh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I hated when I had Facebook and someone would post that their Facebook "got hacked". So yeah people are too stupid to even know what hacking means.

    • @Rt.hype646

But that is hacking. All examples that you think changed the meaning of hacker are actually apart of hacking like social engineering, malware infection. The reason why it's different now then in the early 2000's is because modern systems are getting more secure then they were in the 80's you can't just do a sql injection, xss attack, or a php backdoor on a random site and have guarantee access its much harder in modern times

Although I must say if the decision makers within the organization are willing to spend money on the IT department, they can provide training to the end users, maintain current copies of the OS/Software plus their current patches, and can also maintain proper backups. Sadly allot of organizations feel this is an unnecessary expense until they have been hit. For end users of personal home computers, and if this is a worry for you, I would suggest finding a good local IT guy that you trust for an hour a few times a year to make sure you are as protected as possible.

Or she's just a reporter who took lots of precautions necessary to ensure her safety before filming those segments. She's not a "boss" or even a badass who's "gone hard" for taking those precautions. If she didn't, and the worst case scenario happened, this video would have never been uploaded. I appreciate the sentiment that she seems fearless while talking to potentially dangerous people, and she does hold herself together well, but there are many things going on behind the scenes to ensure her safety before she even meets with the people being interviewed, and those safety protocols include the camera operators, people in charge of the lighting and sound etc.

I feel like we live in a time that all government officials need to have an understanding of at least basic technology. No clue how this is something they just glance over..

Think of it like he military, you can join the army and be a cook. Just because you are part of a branch. Doesn't mean you are * trained " in cyber crimes. Non the less, you're right people should know the answer to today's basic computing knowledge. As a cyber crimes analyst. The average person doesn't know how to use any of their devices. Instead they continue to function as consumers without learning the foundational functions. Corporations want you in the dark and keep sending the data so they can cage us now.

Ransomware is fairly easy to protect against. Simply maintain off line backups. In the event your data is encrypted, you delete the encrypted files and restore your backup. Worst case senario is you loose the data going back to your last backup.
BTW, the US holds an annual hacking conventions all across the US. A popular one is known as DEFCON. Not to mention hacking courses are also available on line for anyone to take.
But I have to ask, why focus just on Russia?

Now the first steps of hacker are encrypt your backups. It is not secret and practiced a long time ago

The word "hack" has no substantive meaning anymore.

    • @johnames6430

correct, you can do vegetable "hack" to cut your vegetables. Or "hack" your coffee by brewing at the perfect temperature. Today I learned a toilet hack for when I take a shit so it won't smell as much....first I flush right away as soon as I drop a deuce, then again after I wipe. Now if you want to get really high level with the hack you can keep some fabreeze in there and spray it BEFORE you sh-t.

"We're the police. You can't ransom us."
It's just something about this quote. Being used to having so much power, being able to do so much, and having all of it be stripped away immediately. They really can't do anything except pay the ransom at that point, no fucking way ANYONE would be able to find the person that did this.

12:49 What luck finding a hacker that wears a black hood and sits in a dark dungeon with ominous lighting and runs the 'top' utility on one screen, and a webcam on another screen, and has many caffeinated drinks strewn about on his desk. He's so 1337, I can't believe he agreed to meet you!
