As far as kick pedal tension, most extreme metal drummers use as much tension as possible. I use trick pedals similiar to Tomas' maxed out on tension. Takes a sec to get used to, but for fast tempos its a godsend, your kick pedals are harder to start moving but easier to keep moving. It's a bit like using heavier sticks, that momentum helps out in a way you might not expect intuitively.

    • @krusher74

I believe he’s using Trick Bigfoot pedals. The best part about that song is that if you took everything out except his hands, it’s the most basic 4/4 groove. The pattern he’s playing on his feet is called a herta, and if you go back and listen again, the pattern are slightly modified every time he comes back around to it. Also, if you’re constantly laying into open hi-hat grooves, not having your arm across your body is key. I honestly think his left hi-hat is only for keeping time. He had opened and closed hats on the right side and he doesn’t employ hi-hat “hops” on anything I can recall.

Check out Jinjer-under the dome Opeth-Baying of the hounds, I am in thier rabbit holes now.. SO many awesome players these days. There has been a lull in talent for a while..
Metal is getting back to shredding again... love it!

I got metal recommendations for you for days if you want! Highly recommend romain goulon from necrphagist or Blake Richardson of btbam (lots of fun time signature stuff, wild transitions).

I totally enjoyed your video but the audio was a little all over the place. Had to keep changing the volume. Especially coming from the next video and going into the next. Big that's just my neighbors talking. Lol

Are you familiar with Gavin Harrison? I saw Tony royster Jr play for Jay z, and during setup I was so happy to hear him jamming on porcupine tree tracks. makes me wonder if Gavin Harrison is well known in the gospel drumming scene? You should definitely do a Gavin Harrison reaction video, dude's a beast

I love this! Do more of their songs!! And that’s the guitar you are hearing moreso over the bass. They use 8 string guitars. Some of the most iconic musicians of all time.
