- Disney XD's new Spider-Man cartoon has proved pretty controversial among fans. With some calling it the worst Spider-Man cartoon of all time. I decided to check it out for myself.

I just want to say - Just because cartoons are aimed at kids, it doesn't give them an excuse to be unintelligent.

someone tell jeph loeb that
THANK YOU

I agree ENTIRELY
I miss the spectacular Spider-Man.
Me too!
I don't, it was good but it's been done for almost a decade.
it's like all these "bring back Danny Phantom" vid's and petitions, april 2007 was when it ended and people still won't shut up, it's actually sad how people don't learn to leave things behind.
Danny Phantom at least has a chance of coming back since Nickelodeon still has the rights (And they made a [non canon] short his year). Spectacular Spider-Man can't be made by Disney because the rights are with Sony, and Disney is too cheap to buy them.
You're not the only one.
lord pheanix I loved spectacular Spider-Man and I hate marvels spiderman
The sad thing is that Disney is one of the companies that can afford to have those spectacular fight scenes (pun intended) and a really good animation style to go along with it and yet they made this
They’re greedy they have all this money but they don’t use it to make good tv shows.
isnt spectacular spider man under sony entertainment and not disney
@@amnhkl1057 yeah the reason it got canceled was Disney buying Marvel and choosing the TV rights over the movie rights, which got us TASM movies
Actually spectacular Spiderman, was in a weird legal loophole, since Sony didn't have the rights to make new tv series, they couldn't do a new season and although Disney had the rights for making tv series, they couldn't make a new season of spectacular Spider-Man since it was Sony's property
And when good shows come along they decide to cancel them too soon.
I think the idea of a scientifically-nerdy Peter Parker isn’t bad. Most of his depictions show him as just a shy kid who wears glasses and gets picked on, and then he just happens to develop a super-compressed web fluid that can be stored in incredibly small capsules that are sticky enough to hold body weight on a single strand. Real mechanical engineers have tried to make something similar to Peter’s webslingers for a long time, at least in functionality, and not enough emphasis goes into how Peter must have some grad-school level of knowledge in material science in high school. It’d be interesting to see a peter who develops web fluid before becoming Spider-Man, but being physically unable to do the same stunts before the powers.
I remember episodes with Deadpool in Ultimate Spider-man. The whole episodes were basically joke fight and it was really fun to watch.
Yeah when Peter fourth wall breaks in the middle of their fight and Deadpool starts beating his ass in there too
I really loved Ultimate Spiderman when I was younger, but I can see why most of the people disliked it..Looking at it back it really had a lot of those typical disney jokes but it was atleast decently enjoyable
And gay
@@spacecowboyz0154 it was funny tho ngl
4:29 DAMN JJ CHILL
JJ Straight up popped spider man without getting arrested
MRSTARK I DON'T FEEL SO GOOD
JJJ ALWAYS STRAPPED
There's something hilarious to me about how Spider-man's just lying there -dead- on the road afterwards from a freakin gun fired by a bit character.
Who’s the real weasel now?! (JJJ is crazy)
Spectacular Spider-Man was made to please. Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man are made to sell toys
But it still sucked
John Squarez Spectacular selled plenty of toys, Sony handed over the rights for the cartoon character to Disney so they could continue to make Spider-Man movies
Marvel's spider-man doesn't even have a toy line...
shut up !!! ultimate spiderman was the best it's not shitty like marvels spiderman ....
Mahima subramanian Marvel's Spider-Man is better, he's not breaking 4th wall 24/7 like Ultimate Spider-Man
I can't get over a feeling of meh. Can't love it. Can't hate it. I just feel meh.
Siara Hughes the animation was carrying it
@Killer Hai ok
@@badfoody nah
@@badfoody lol no, stfu
Too bad of a show to like it, but too little of a problem to care about.
4:49 why is Timmy Turner sitting in front of Peter?
Oh crap the universes are colliding.
@@NaiefThegoony *_WE'RE DOOMED_*
😂😂😂😂
My main issue with the show is three things:
1: Spider-Man doesn't know when to shut up. I like the voice actor quite a lot ( He's done much better roles ) But I can't help but say he talks to much. Especially in fight scenes. Spectacular and hell, even the 90s show did this better.
2: The writing is pretty bad. It does have the good moments. This show does serious scenes way better than what Ultimate did. This also ties in with my first complaint.
3: The progression. My god, it really says somethinh when we get the Black suit way earlier on in the show. It rubbed me the wrong way on how Peter Parker was introduced. And even more so when he started as Spider-Man.
All I want is a good Spider-Man show again. We have a good movie. An upcoming video game that looks promising. So why can't Disney make a decently loved Spider-Man TV show?
Or maybe just Make Spectacular season 3 pls
I don't really get your third point. You DO realize that Spectacular and 90's did the same thing with introducing the Symbiote right?
@@combatlightning9481 not really, both were at the end of season 1, this was at...ep4?
@@rekius328 I think it was like episode 5-6. And yeah it was pretty early but it was still at season 1. Plus that episode had one of the best moments there
@@ThunderflySc2 they did it with young justice.Hopefully they can make it happen for spidey.
Also why is Peter Parker drawn like Harry Potter? Does that bother anyone else?
shanerulez79 to me he looks more like Ben 10 and that bothers me
ShadowThePika well the reboot one yeah. It just sucks cuz I was one of the few people who actually liked ultimate Spiderman
Reminds me of Pidge from Voltron
Petrichorus I can never unsee this now.
But I’d compare him more to Matt. :)
These comments comparing him to different characters is so good omg
I say he reminds me a little of Jeremy Heere from the musical Be More Chill 🤷🏼♀️
This new peter Parker doesn’t even seem like peter
Yeah how is this supposed to look like this guy
Right? They mostly focus on his nerdy self and ignore the other aspects that make Peter such a memorable character.
That applies to both the big screen and small screen right now
Sounds more like young ironman from armoured adventures.
He's ben 10 you didint know?
Spider-Man, how do you feel about your current cartoon incarnations?

You thought Spider-Man Unlimited was garbage? I respect your opinion, but could you go into a bit more detail on why you didn't like it? For me, I enjoyed it because of the art-style and how alien it felt. I also liked that the show introduced heroic versions of previous villains, as well as focusing more on John Jameson. Sure, it had problems, and some of the characters were shameless ripoffs, but it had a lot of heart to it. Lumping it into the same category as the 80s Spider-Man cartoon is a bit extreme.
And the 60’s-80’s Spider-Man cartoons aren’t bad they’re fun.... Unlimited was peak Spider-Man cartoons
well let it speak for itself it got cancelled after 6 episodes
@@ashender823 You mean 13? just because a show is cancelled after 13 episodes (let alone any amount of episodes) that dosen't mean it's a bad show as cancellation has nothing to do with quality. Spectacular Spider-man was cancelled after only 2 seasons and yet it is concidered by many to be the best spider-man show while Ultimate spider-man is horse shit and yet lasted 5 fucking seasons 🤦
Came to say this exactly. I think people look down on unlimited Spider-Man because
1st it was put on after 90s Spider-Man was cancelled (even though it ended on a pretty good note aside from Spider-Man finding mj) and you can guess it didn’t live up to the expectations it left
2nd it was very alien like you say. Even though I loved the whole plot, atmosphere and soundtrack most of my friends found it hard to get into it. I still think it’s the best animated Spider-Man after 90s and spectacular.
3rd got cancelled just as it was about to get real good. We couldn’t see where the plot was gonna take us and we didn’t have time to have all those characters grow on us.
69th like funny ha…ha
Harry builds a flaming sword
The second Hobgoblin uses one

The 90's one and spectacle were the best
Spectacle spider man LOL
60’s spider-man was better
SHOOOCKKEEEEEERRRRRR!!!!
Agreed.
Why nobody talks about the 3D SPIDERMAN series, it called "Spider-Man the new animated series"
It's soo Dark and for Adults
I hate they way they made Peter so annoying. The Spectacular Spider-Man and Spider-Man The Animated series(90s) will always be the superior series
SPIDER MAN No when he's Spider-Man, he suppose to be annoying. But when he's Peter Parker, he's suppose to be a shy and respectable kid
Peter has always been annoying, it's just different in the show.
By this I mean Peter was the kind of kid that I'd legitimately tell to get lost in school, he was a major jerk, if you make a mistake he lords it over you.
Fantasy Connect like?
always!
Dark Tales Production Peter doesnt look like himself either
The Spectacular Spider-Man is a perfect example of a show that's well written and enjoyable for adults while still being very kid friendly
Like the Clone Wars. What was with the late 2000s having so many shows that were for all ages?
I agree: "Marvel's Spider-Man" isn't the greatest, but I wouldn't call it 'God-awful' either.
Same
Max Arc 😊
No show is perfect. Some are just better than others.
I like this one a lot really
Retr0 Spekt as Norman Osborne said “I respect that”
Ultimate Spider-Man could've been amazing if it didn't have cheesy ass lines and constantly breaking the fourth wall. Also if they didn't do the stupid team ups. I prefer spider man as a lone wolf.
lil chino310 That’s how it should be. He’s always been a solo act. I hate how the modern toons make him be part of a team. It completely ruins his dynamic
@@shamarbruce8830 to be honest they should have done those crossovers sparingly. It makes those team ups very unremarkable and by the numbers if these characters keep meeting every episode instead of having more focused character development.
This show looks absolutely terrible. The cheap animation alone hurts my eyes
Still better than ultimate hahah
@@ThunderflySc2 ultimate was way Better than this crap
As soon as I saw that teaser with Spider-Man and Scorpion I legit thought it wasn’t finished.
Phil Mitchell I hate you now marvel’s Spider-Man is my second favorite show

And i would like to see you try animate somthing at least appreciate there work time and effort gose into it
Its kinda sad that the only Spidey cartoon that had a former ending, a definitive final episode that closes all arcs was Ultimate Spider Man.
Let that sink into your head.. What happened to TNAS or TAS? Or Spectacular?
ElInspectorRicardo Don't forget Unlimited.. This is just depressing
90's spiderman kind of had an ending. It just had a lot of plot lines left unresolved like what happened to mary Jane
Shit.......
Dalton Williams Well at the end Madam Web did tell Peter Mary Jane is alive but yeah it's still a cliff hanger.
Spectacular was SO GOOD
I personally liked Spider-Man Unlimited animation wise and story wise even although it was kinda all over the place, but I thought it was an interesting take on Spider-Man
Thank god I'm not the only one
Roky Nunez yup
I Still think that Unlimited Spider-man has one of the best Spider Suit ever
Yeah the cell shaded art style of unlimited allows it to hold up so well. But yeah the story was everywhere.
If Unlimited had a longer run it would definatly been my favorite spiderman cartoon. You just dont get grimdark future dystopias like that in cartoons back then, a episode sure but a show not really.
The science bit I noticed seems to be with characters who overcompensate their intelligence for a lack of an actual fucking character or any other multi faceted trait to make them interesting.
Much like the actual Big Bang theory
I liked the ultimate Spider-Man
Sand I enjoyed it
As do I.
Same. My mom recorded the first episode for me when I was excited about them airing it.
Me too
I watched so many season
is it me or Peter Parker looks like Ben 10 from the "Alien force" time episodes.
Arturs Utinovs You're not the only one who thought of that.
It also looks like Harry potter
Yeah, a bit
It looks like they copied character designs and animation from the new Voltron and stole the school from Big Hero 6
Crazie Ghostie The character design creator from Marvel's Spider-Man is actually the character design creator of Big hero 6 :) I havent seen BH6 but noticed the similarity of the character designs on his instagram accounts.
You mean bh6 the animated series right?
Ana Cristina Alvarez , no I meant the movie. I didn't know there was a TV show.... When he was talking about the high school being full of super geniuses able to create Tony Stark level technology on the fly, it reminded me of the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. All the students there created amazing world changing technology like it was a normal, everyday thing to do
Crazie Ghostie oh sorry lol, honestly I haven't seen BH6 :B but yeah, there's an animated series (or there's going to be, idk)
Crazie Ghostie it looks like phineas and ferb
Acutally its Disney's fault
All because Disney didn't have Spider-Man and he wanted a disney cartoon that includes Spider-Man and Sony sold Spider-Man to Disney it started in 2009
Everything is disneys fault
No actually Sony returned the Spider-Man tv rights before Disney bought Marvel
It's animation looks like discount devilman crybaby and Peter Parker looks like Ben Tennyson... What is it come to...
At least the Ben 10 shows were great
God i just can't get over how absolute shit the animation of this new series is
Javelin The animation the fluid the art is trash tho seriously just add shadows
Theres no shading or deph into the art but the animation is decent
icecream hero exactly. Thank you!
The animation makes me cringe. Some scenes are fine but others have no weight, secondry action, anticipation, very unclear staging etc.
Animation can look like shit but if the plot of the show is gold the animation is the least important thing you care. Look at shows like spectacular spider-man or the new anime on netflix Devilman Crybaby, they don't have the big budget-thisgonnawinsomeaward animation but the story is so good that makes you almost forget about it.
Bring back spectacular
That's violating contract laws and will cost Marvel millions
MalikProductions Max I will never ever get over it
Zodice What I'm trying to figure out is why is he telling me to get over it? What's wrong with wanting a show to come back that you love so much?
Zodice I know I noticed that and just went hmmm
Zodice It'd still be spectacular
Yeah I agree with the problems most people have with marvel's Spider-Man but I personally finally pretty enjoyable it's not great or horrible it's just okay at best but I hope in the future we can get a spectacular Spider-Man level spidey cartoon again.
MalikProductions Max he could punch in SSM
I also like it and especially the spider island event
I still think Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends was the worst
I just watch it for the ships and the art style 🤷🏼♀️
@dragon stare24 its meant for the simple minded i.e for kids with no attention span
*Hears you talk crap about Unlimited.*
YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!!
I hated that cartoon, if you like it get a better childhood. They made spidey an annoying ass character who constantly broke the fourth wall and the deadpool thing they did with him (fourth wall breaking, voices inside his head).
Ashu Prak
No. That's Ultimate. Unlimited aired in 1999 and featured Spider-Man going to another planet that's highly alike to Earth.

Hold on a minute, you mention Spider-Man Unlimited as being god-awful. It's not a great show, but it's definitely not the worst. That nanotex soup was really cool, and I actually really like their symbiote storyline. I will give you though the series main villain and the alternate Earth lot were ridiculous.
Marvel should replaced it with a Spiderman 2099 show
I actually don't mind 'ultimate spider-man' as a show. It sticks with what it is really well and it's genuinely funny at times.
Haha. I love how you showed that japanese spider man show. Always like that intro.
I feel like I'm in the minority that actually liked ultimate spiderman :/ this one feels a bit more generic I'll give it that, though they really changed up the characters like a lot. So it might be fun as like a different take on the websilinger.
darkmyro ultimate spiderman is cool I liked it the most
Same. I watched this show all the time when I was younger. And there are so many things that Disney/Marvel did right with it. I love the style, humour, character designs, and voice acting. So, when I started watching TH-cam videos about it, I was pretty sad that no one shared my enthusiasm. I respect everyone who dislikes the show, but I always get mad when people start criticising or hating at people who like it. I just wish everyone would respect each other.
And although this show is pretty bad, and I kind of wince at the animation and cheesy puns, I respect anyone who like it, and who knows, maybe Disney/Marvel will improve upon it and put some heart into the show.
I loved ultimate.
It really went all out and tried interesting things instead of retreating plot lines like other shows do

Nilukshan Sasikumar spedtacular sucked. Spectacular, on the other hand...
Nilukshan Sasikumar i never saw that one.
Cough dc fanboy cough
I think they really highlighted the nerdy side of Peter and all things science because of the latest adaptation of Peter from the comics. Last time I saw his comics he had started his own company that went on to rival Tony Stark's company. There were actually a few issue with him fighting with Tony and arguing over who's the better guy and who had the best company. Now even though comic Peter has utilized his brain and is a ceo of a powerful company that makes some great innovations he didn't seem overwhelmingly nerdy.
Should've kept Spider-Man as a lone wolf. Didn't have to bring in all those other fucking Spider-Mans again. Keep his identity a secret which adds more drama and suspense. The Peter in this tried waay too hard to act like a nerd. They moved wayy too fast in this too. The animation is also kinda shitty .
Yh bro you can add other Spidey but you have to do it right like the miles morales movie into the spider verse also yes all these other spiderman existing I the same dimension fd it all we want is spectacular Spider-Man
spider man unlimited was kinda cool in my opinion
thought I was the only one
You are not alone this show IS AWESOME to the point I can't calculate the awesomeness my brain explodes it is worthy sequel to TAS
It was amazing to me as a kid.
It was they just botched venom and carnage they looked terrible imo
Yeah, I watched it a couple years back when it was on Netflix to see if it was as bad as I remembered, and I ended up marathoning the whole thing in one sitting. That show rules, even if it doesn't have an actual ending.
man i'm still mad that none of those 90s marvel cartoons got proper series finales
From what I've seen, this series' biggest distinguishing feature compared to previous Spider-Man incarnations is the focus on science. I like this concept because I feel like a lot of incarnations either don't focus much on it, or somewhat omit it by having it be an interest of Peter, rather than something he's naturally gifted at. As much as I love Raimi's take on the character, there was rarely any science involved, and the most we got was Peter being a student of Dr. Conners and mentioning some stuff when meeting Octavious in Spidey 2. That's about it. Doesn't help that the natural webs diminish Peter's genius side, but that's neither here or there.
The issue this show has is that I think it overplays the science aspect. Having everyone and Peter be science geniuses diminishes Peter's uniqueness. I'm fine with characters like Gwen Stacy being a science nerd too, but Harry and everyone else? No thanks.
To tell the truth, I don't think this is the worst Spider-Man cartoon. Ultimate has had that crown since it came out, 'cause that version didn't even attempt to get the character right, and was overall insulting. This show tries, but I think the main problem is that the creators are trying to go for a "have our cake, and eat it too," where they have so many other characters like Miles Morales thrown in there, when I think Peter Parker is enough. If anything, this show will be remembered in a similar way like the MTV series: Not terrible, but nothing special or remarkable either.
The fuck did you say about the MTV series?
I still hold that Unlimited is the worst. It is utterly bizarre, and lacks anything that Spider-Man represents.
Yo where did ya get your PfP
Th amazing spiderman has him science. And connors, and beat th lizard, with an antidote. And while thts probably the most kaiju spiderman movie, science.
I'm sorry, but if you wanted me to watch the rest of your video, you shouldn't have included JJJ *fucking shooting Spider-Man dead* . God the original cartoon was a beautiful fucking mess.
No but really, good vid. Honestly disappointed, cause the shorts were pretty alright.

*"where is flash thompson to shove this kid into a locker when u need him"*
Not the worst Spidey cartoon, but its DEFINITELY not Spectacular Spiderman

I kinda hate the new marvel spiderman cartoon just because its a reboot to ultimate spiderman or ultimate spiderman web warriors. There was alot they could have still done. They never resolved jjj's son turning into a werewolf on the moon. As far as ik hes still in stasis. Also they could have brought black cat into the ultimate spiderman show. I hate how people say ultimate spiderman was created for toys but if you actually sit down and watch it. It has lore building. Hell ultimate spiderman made it into avengers assemble a few times. And hulk and agents of smash. My main reason for hating THIS spiderman is cuz it felt like a reboot done way to soon
I'm really glad that you just didn't scream into your microphone about how bad the show is, which is something I really appreciate. Keep up the great work!
If only more TH-camrs were like him
Nah bro this show was actually really good and maximum venom was sick no cap
I'm going to have to disagree with you completely, I've watched all 3 seasons, as well as Ultimate Spider-Man, the Spectacular Spider-Man, and obviously the original animated series. And while the animated series (to me at least) is the best, I feel like this one is honestly my favorite Spider-Man show from any of them, while it is EXTREMELY goofy at times, you have to remember it's focused around a child audience, so they have to work around most original source materials to make it that way, however it seems to fail at that, it mixes the ultimate marvel universe with the main marvel universe really well, not to mention some of the things they came up with themselves, and this is probably THE MOST accurate depiction of Spider-Man I have ever seen, not to mention the way they portrayed the Superior Spider-Man arc is honestly just fucking amazing. I've watched every episode from beginning and end, and the way they move the story on in a linear fashion as if they were planning it from the get go is amazing, and the Doc Ock arc (SPOILER WARNING)
was really well done, and pretty sad for a "Children's Show" and what shines most of all is the message behind the show, as well as them actually using Spider-Man's comic accurate tactics as well as just basic morality, and they went pretty far with it, this show gets shit on WAYYY too much and people who at least don't see the message behind it as well as actually how much research was put into it and creativity are just a bunch of dolts who have obviously missed the entire meaning and skipped episodes.
i honestly loved the marvel spiderman series i think it deserves more love
I agree! I haven't watched many spider-man cartoons bc I don't like how they look but this is comparable to spectacular spider-man. The doc ock arc was AMAZING and I almost cried when he died. Some things bugged me, like Max existing or Miles getting powers without it alerting Peter but most things were great. I love how Peter realised why he has a moral code and that people don't always get the love he did. And Peter isn't annoying, he's just a kid excited about science and he tones it down later. I didn't love how they were inventing things on the go all the time, but I wasn't mad about it either. And if the kids get excited about science bc of the series, that's a bonus. And the jokes were good! And Harry Osborn was great and I love that he looks different from his father bc it was like a sign that he wouldn't be like him but still he had these "will he won't he" moments a lot. And the depiction of his friendship with Peter was also good.
@@chrystheo808 yes i rlly loved the series although i skipped a lot of doc ock’s spiderman arc. and honestly i was kinda bugged when all of his friends just got to have spider powers as well but i grew to be fine with it
I agree with mostly everything you've said in this video, but my initial opinion on why the show was bad was because the dialogue sucked. Like Spidey's quips are the WORST in this show; they're not funny at all. And yeah I really do agree with you on this whole "smart kid" school. Very stupid idea.
One thing though; I would give it props for its season 1 finale. I personally liked this show's interpretation on the whole "harry osborn/green goblin" plot-line. But I would like to hear your thoughts on it.
Dear God, the animation looks terrible. Like it was made by a twelve year old weeb with Flash on their computer.
Jaden Bricker
The animation isn’t bad. The art is what’s terrible.
Exactly!
Trust me even they can make better art than this
It was made by a 7yo fortnite player
Glad to know a 12yo can draw better than me
Honestly, as a fan of the show, it is pretty awful. I agree with the majority of this. But I have to say: Otto from this show specifically is my main comfort character. It's kinda funny how "cute" they made his character design, Scott Menville did a GREAT job voice acting him, and even though it was pretty poorly executed he has a neat character arc.
5:12 This scene is pretty different with this Peter. In the Stan & Ditko run of the comics and some of the best interpretations of the character, we feel bad for Peter. Yes, he's a nerd, but he's also nice, and just wants to be popular and get dates, but people just push him aside for being different. Here, we get why people dislike him so much; this kid just doesn't shut up. I'd dislike him too if I knew him, he's just too uncomfortable to be with.
Exactly. He’s not relatable at all (which is supposed to be one of the fundamental traits of Peter Parker). He’s so much of an annoying brat that it’s extremely difficult to root for him
The unpopular nerd thing isn't relevant anymore. No one calls anyone a nerd unless it's affectionate. So, Peter being smart would actually make him someone others look up to. Him not shutting up could be a reason why he isn't liked so it wasn't a bad choice at all.
Modern Marvel cartoons make me miss Spectacular Spider-Man and Avengers: EMH. They used to have style and great writing.
He acts like the smart kid in 7th grade instead of a responsible, but geeky highschooler
spider man: kicks thanos in the face
thanos: 4:29
I actually kind of like it. It's nice to see spider-man win with logic instead of just power, and this one feels vulnerable
Yea same
Except Peter isnt autistic and only reliant on his intelligence
Why people hate Spider-Man Unlimited? I mean it's so much better than Ultimate and Marvel's Spider-Man...
I bet people don't like the sci-fy approach.
+Noctis Caelum
It was.
It was, Ultimate was double down version only create to sell toy; it give us the most annoying spider-man version who ever exist.
Spider-Man is not Deadpool, they are totally different characters.
I actually liked unlimited it was new and different
Ultimate Spider-Man was the one I grew up with. I loved it so much and still don’t think it’s bad at all.
Bruh just bring back the spectacular spiderman!!!
I only like Laura Bailey as Gwen Stacy there
hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
haven't watched ultimate in years, but i remember loving it

Kids nowadays need to watch the Spectacular Spider-man show. It is the most accurate and ambitious version of Spider-man in an animated show.
Agreed
While I don't think the students in that school are anywhere near Tony Stark or Reed's level, but still making a school full of geniuses is an awful decision. They are meant to be average students in an average high school. Peter himself isn't a gifted genius either, he just has interest in science. Don't know how this show got the simplest of the things wrong, even Ultimate Spiderman had basics of the character right.
7:09 thought I was watching a Ben ten episode
I really miss spectacular spider-man cartoon
We all do bro we all do
4:28 Best part of the God damn video
This show had it good parts and its bad parts, the main bad part was where most of the villains were children instead of adult, but other than it wasn't bad. It is a shame about the last few eps of season 2 and the season 3, it felt rushed. Wished they put more work in it. But seeing how it was getting cancelled I sort of see why it was bad.
Honestly the show isn’t that bad. I actually enjoy it quite a bit.
There's a really weird scene in the second or third episode where Peter tells Max Modell he needs a job to pay for school, so he wants to become the school's janitor. Max is perplexed that Peter would want to work as a janitor, and offers him instead to work as his personal assistant. Peter agrees, so the first assignment Max gives him - clean up the mess in the lab caused earlier by Spider-Man battle with someone. So basically... do janitor work? This all happens within the same conversation, and it doesn't play out like a gag, so it was baffling to me.
There's all sorts of stuff like this in the earlier episodes, where the writers don't seem to know how basic things work in the real world. When Harry gets suspended from Horizon High, his father Norman immediately opens HIS OWN school, Osborn Academy. You need like, a license to operate a school, permits, certified teachers and what not. It's not something you just do willy-nilly. There's also the whole genius teenagers thing you mentioned, with all sorts of really dangerous experiments being conducted out in the open. Perhaps it's an homage at the 90s animated series, which also did that a lot? More likely, it's the lack of basic understanding of how science works (in both shows, as much as I love SMTAS).
Having said that, I quite enjoy this show. It's no Spectacular Spider-Man, but it's definitely better than Ultimate. They manage to get A LOT done in just one season. It's almost like they're really in a rush. In 13 episodes, we've had black suit Spidey, Flash Thompson Venom (no Eddie Brock, though) Miles Morales becoming Spider-Man (only short months after Peter got his powers) and a cross-over with Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. Interestingly enough, no Green Goblin yet (Norman or Harry), though they definitely seem to be building up to it, no Mary Jane Watson except for a small reference in the recent episode, (a very young) Doctor Octavius is there but still not Doctor Octopus, no real love interest as of yet (they were kinda building up Gwen but so far nothing has come to fruition) and no Death of Uncle Ben scene, in accordance with Homecoming. So while they've clearly jumped the gun on some things, I think they've actually shown restraint on others.
I agree with your take on Harry Osborn, but in contrast, I think Norman Osborn's depiction is spot on. He's not maniacal (yet, anyway), he has clear and reasonable motives that revolve more around business disputes and a genuine concern for the safety of the city and his son rather than an inexplicable desire to crush Spider-Man.
I think that if this show runs long enough, it could actually improve and find its place.
I support that comment! Despite its flaws, Marvel Spiderman is still awesome!😁
As someone who grew up with spectacular Spider-Man anything else is kinda disappointing (and I’m still pissed it got cancelled!)
I actually enjoyed this show, (having watched the first and half of the second seasons thus far) and I think the concept would have worked all of the names and designs were swapped with a new hero and new villains. I think the biggest gripes I have about the show is how it's often disengenuous to Spider-Man's past depictions. On its own, it's problematic, but has some great concepts that I'd love to see explored.
The animation is lazy. I'm not sure why they think kids are dumb, and dumbing down the content so much. The old Spider-man cartoons had some incredible dynamic storytelling. It just comes to show you when these executives think of super hero content that's animated at Disney, they automatically assume the kids watching it are stupid. My nephew who's 8 said it's trash.
The current series isn't exactly a traditional depiction, but come on! Ultimate was outright slapstick and never did much with its many potentially great characters in favor of reusing the same gags over and over. By the end of its run it had improved considerably, but considering where it started, "improved considerably" just means "nowhere near as painful as it was at the beginning but still falling well short of the next-worst series." Worse was the timing of it - Spectacular had just met an early demise, Peter Parker was dead in the Ultimate comics, and in the main universe we'd recently had One More Day and its fallout, so the comic was now primarily about the perfect romance between the hero and... Joe Quesada's daughter. As such, the new series was our only hope for good Peter Parker/Spidey stories even being a thing at all. And then we learn Paul Dini is involved and it's based on the start of the Ultimate comics! Glory hallelujah! And then.. we get... *THAT.*
The thing about this peter parker
Hes too much of a "i am very smart ik everything" and he wont stfu about explaining the obvious
Agreed
With my asberger's, Peter's social awkwardness was kind of neat for the first few episodes, but other than that, I kept finding myself saying, "what human being has conversations like this?." The writing was just terrible. For being so science obsessed, their conclusions are often outright wrong.
Octavius is kind of good. I just wanted to see Superior Spider-Man and I don't think I'm going to help skipping to the episode.
Hey.Spiderman Unlimited was actuallly pretty decent
Can someone please tell me what the name of the background music is
7:27-8:32
Anyone remember Deadpool in ultimate Spiderman?
This show was trash. Spectacular Spider-Man will go down as the best one
The 2018 make me trew up.
And ultimate spider man
1994 is best
4:24 Just gonna leave this here for my own convenience.
2:34 I swear that voice sounds familiar
The Rise of Doc Ock part 1 and 2 were probably the best episodes. They were decent, but they basically do what anyone of these super crazy plot actions would do: Goes way over the top. Shove the whole Jackal clone saga, Spider-Gwen, and basically leave a cliffhanger for something you can't outdo. Everyone in New York with spider powers, really? Just goes there with poor build-up for the Jackal. Very bad character development/placement, aside from Ock, and maybe Norman. Show struggling with introductions majorly is its biggest weakness.
The fact that Disney made two Spider-Man shows with multiple seasons just to try and live up to the hype of Spectacular Spider-Man which only had one season really speaks volume.
2
This show was a 50/50 for me like it's alright
So, Ben 10 in alternate universe is spiderman. Grt.
I actually love it, it has the same spirit as Spectacular Spider-Man in my eyes. It has its flaws of course, but it's awesome to me
Everyone seems to hate it.........well maybe they just doing the best or anything
Episode 1 shows Peter’s entire origin.
7 episodes later we’re already on the black suit.
1. Spectacular Spider-Man
2. 90s Spider-Man
3. Marvel Spider-Man
Best ones to me, dont care what anyone says
Good list I agree with all of them
Had I not been in too much of a bad state throughout 2019, I would’ve made a video on what I consider to be the top 20 worst cartoons of the 2010s, and Marvel’s Spider Man DEFINITELY would’ve been on that list! If I have kids, I would, unless a better Spider Man cartoon comes out by then, show them The Spectacular Spider Man and/or Spider Man 1994 (the latter of which aired on the BBC in my country!)
Overall thoughts on the series:
This is a very back-to-basics take on the character, one that, in my opinion, works. Peter Parker feels much more in character as Peter Parker in this show than he ever did in Ultimate Spider-Man. The animation, while lacking shadows and sometimes being a little stiff, is visually pleasing and obviously has effort put into it. However, the thing that differentiates this series from Ultimate Spider-Man (For me, at least) is that this show actually has an overarching story that has me interested to see where it goes. Ultimate Spider-Man never really had an overarching story. All it had were episodes with random stories and characters that never went anywhere or had any development unless the writers wanted them to. Not only that, but Ultimate felt less like a 'Let's do this character justice' cartoon and more of a 'Here's your Marvel hero of the week, kids! Buy our toys!'. Sure, I heard that it got better in the later seasons, but it shouldn't have to take a show that long to become better. Marvel's Spider-Man, while admittedly not at the same level as Spectacular, has had a more coherent story in the first season alone than Ultimate Spider-Man did in its own first season. In conclusion, while Marvel's Spider-Man isn't flawless, it is NOT the worst Marvel cartoon ever made, nor is it bad. I mean, we all remember Super Hero Squad, Avengers Assemble, and Ultimate Spider-Man, right?
Can we talk about how this show made Adrian Toomes the Green Goblin?
Eww he’s the Vulture he ain’t Goby
The Red And Blue Suit In This Show Is Fully Inspired From Spider Man Homecoming, The Spider Man's Suit In This Show Is Actually Really Cool. 😆🧡
