This cartoon was such an important part of my childhood. I loved this show. I would watch it religiously every weekday after school. Arguably my favorite cartoon of the 90s behind X-men. Damn, I really loved this show...it makes me feel so nostalgic just thinking about it. I had so many Spider-Man toys in this days strictly bc of this show. Kept me entertained many days when I otherwise wouldn’t have had anything else to do. My dad didn’t really let me out the house much in those days so Spider-Man kept me happy at home.
I use to watch this cartoon every Saturday morning. It was one of my favorites growing up. I remember when venom came out I was so excited to finally see spidey clash against him.
Rooks McGee Actually that is not what happened. Spider-Man did meet Stan lee but at the end of the episode Madam Web and Spider-Man went to search for Mary Jane.
I think Martin Landau didn’t actually win his Academy Award until after he started voicing Scorpion. In fact, I think him winning said award is what resulted in him being replaced in Seasons 4 and 5 since he was too busy after that win.

Big thank you to Disney + for having the series on there. I binge watched and finished it from beginning to end. Watching this in the 90s introduced me to Spider-Man and made me a huge fan. My children are all under the age of 10 and they love this series because of me too
We were a marvel family so didn’t watch batman TAS but did enjoy batman beyond! Will have to go back and check it out as everyone raves about it! Honest trailers said batman was number one but xmen was not far behind in 2.
I was a teen back when this aired. I remember thinking the way they handled the Morbius storyline was kind of clever, but the plasma sucking holes in his hands are truly unsettling.
Togotzi • I thought he was too. But I just looked it up to make sure. He was never a credited character. But I guess I’m blending my characters together.
They're right. Which is weird cause i could have sworn he was lol. I didnt watch the 80s series or really read comics back then. Im starting to wonder how i ever knew who sandman was before the spiderman 3 movie. Cause i knew who he was before that movie, but how?
kreiyu • when I watched the scene again, they made hydro man wear a similar outfit (the striped shirt and khakis) to sandman. I think that’s why we all think Sandman was in the show.
Number 5 note - there is a script for the final episode where spidey and Mary Jane are reunited. I believe John semper Jr was giving them away via his patreon but sadly I didnt have money at the time :c
I'm an 80s baby so I saw Spider-Man and his amazing friends. But the 90s Spider-Man was the one that stands out, maybe because I was old enough then to remember it better.

Another thing to add to the Censorship seen in #4 at 6:55 is after 9/11, any footage featuring the World Trade Centers, flying vehicles crashing into buildings or even mentioning the WTC were removed. Examples: in the Man-Spider episode "Duel of the Hunters" after Kraven & Punisher save Spidey, they mention the car bombing of the WTC in 1993; that was cut. Also in the episode "Day of the Chameleon" when Chameleon flees S.H.I.E.L.D. a helicopter, he crashes into a building; that was cut. They didn't remove the shot of the WTC in the 1st live action TMNT, so why are they still doing it to Spider-Man TAS? I understand it was a horrific event but I think we've healed enough to move on and restore those scenes.
I really do love the idea of Hobgoblin coming first, with Green Goblin showing up and proving he's more powerful than Hobgoblin, catching him off guard.
It's so weird that they censored punches and guns when Batman: The Animated Series was on the same channel/time slot previously. Batman was all punches and real guns.
If I remember correctly, the producers of Batman had to fight pretty hard to keep the guns in. But ultimately it was allowed because of two main reasons: Gotham's aesthetic design - laser guns would have looked out of place in an art-deco world; and because most of the guns used were fully-automatic Tommy guns, of which aren't typically sold to the general public. And so censors allowed it because, in theory, they weren't overly concerned about kids getting their hands on working Tommy guns to imitate the show.
@@kecukraftwork1988 Without getting too political, I feel like the use of goofy laser guns would have cheapened the overall message of the show and Batman's personal relationship with gun violence.
I was born in 2002 and I got to grow up with it. Thank God for re runs on the hub. My childhood consisted of transformers G1, spiderman, spiderman unlimited and batman beyond. The heart of the 90s
Here is another fact: in the dubbing of Latin America, Hobgoblin was translated as the most recognizable "el Duende Verde" (the Green Goblin). That became more confusing when the true Green Goblin appeared, causing Hobgoblin to be translated simply as el "Duende" (The Goblin) or el "Duende Naranja"(The Orange Goblin).
@@ChickenRieder Dude, in the comics, there were like three diferent Hobgoblins and I lost count of how many diferent Green Goblins there were, I lost count at some point.....
I was in my teenage years when this show was on and being abit of a comic fan I still loved it. Later as an adult i bought DVDs. It still Carrys well after all these years.
Those relationships are taken directly from the comics. Either that or it's a phenomenal coincidence. My guess is they knew the comics much better that you think.
Your point? Neither was the original comic. I mean the Amazing universe original spiderman comics. He was in college when it happened. The other universes didn't all have it happen when he was a kid. Ultimate universe was one of the few that did, but the rest really didn't.
I watched this with my dad when it aired. It blew my mind he recognized Shocker before the character's name was ever said. And I really liked how Hobgoblin came first here. The idea he was just an ambitious thug who was hired and outfitted by Osborne.
Absolutely. I'll drink to that. Its a shame that such greatness may never grace our presence again. I hope he does one of these on mighty max, the one show i could never watch as a kid for whatever reason the fates through at me, either it was on when i went to church or our vcr was on the fritz. I have gotten to watch them on TH-cam. Someone uploaded all of the episodes and they're still there.
I remember getting very confused reading about the Hobgoblin because I always thought that was the "real villain" and the Green Goblin was some temporary knock-off. Let's be honest, Hobgoblin is a cooler name.
Honestly, the finale is SO GOOD, I'm pretty okay with it being the end. Even that ending "cliffhanger" to me feels like something you want to see addressed, but don't actually need resolved. Not that I'd oppose a reboot of course...

Growing up I couldn’t get enough of this show
I use to watch this cartoon every Saturday morning. It was one of my favorites growing up. I remember when venom came out I was so excited to finally see spidey clash against him.
That was the crowing achievement of my childhood.
I love the Hobgoblin, he's my favourite vilian in the show . Especially since he's voiced by Mark Hamill .
Hobgoblin WAS a real Spidey villain before the show in addition to Green Goblin sooo
Yes, but Green Goblin came long before him is what they're saying.
I already knew of:
Madam Webs Voiceactor.
Mary Jane still missing at the end of the series.
We could assume that Mary Jane was rescued by Spider-Man and they reunited.
Actually
Stan lee brings her back to life
He meets Stan
And he brings her back to life
Rooks McGee Actually that is not what happened.
It was an awesome series and the crossovers were awesome.
"You don't get any better than the spiderman theme song."
Xmen theme song: am I a joke to you?
BATS: oh come on
How about this. Can we just agree that some of the 90s comic book cartoons had some of the best theme songs
I liked that one as well, as for initial reaction to watching it as a kid watch nostalgia critics top 11 theme songs.
Spiderman has a better one for sure but that one was sick to. When the guitar starts turning up and iron man takes off into the air it just does something to me lol.
Disney+ has the whole Xmen cartoon series
This show was such a huge part of what made me the big marvel nerd i am today. I still find it strange though how it could have so much censorship like not mentioning blood or death etc. and yet it was still great.
It made them creative
Well Batman, Superman, spawn and maxx got away with things
Big thank you to Disney + for having the series on there. I binge watched and finished it from beginning to end. Watching this in the 90s introduced me to Spider-Man and made me a huge fan. My children are all under the age of 10 and they love this series because of me too
Was a perfect cartoon and mashed well with the xmen 90’s cartoon to get me really stoked for all things marvel!
Cowabunga2304 but not the same scale as batman TAS
We were a marvel family so didn’t watch batman TAS but did enjoy batman beyond! Will have to go back and check it out as everyone raves about it! Honest trailers said batman was number one but xmen was not far behind in 2.
Cowabunga2304 well yeah if not for the censors
I was a teen back when this aired. I remember thinking the way they handled the Morbius storyline was kind of clever, but the plasma sucking holes in his hands are truly unsettling.
Such a classic all the animated series were brilliant to be honest
CARNAGE AS JACK THE RIPPER?! That sounds more amazing then it really should.
I could have sworn sandman was in an episode. Weird
You're right they're tweekin
No he wasn't.
He was in the 80's cartoon.
I can still hear the epic intro in my head, clear as day.
Stop showing the host talking... Bring back footage of what they're talking about
but they don’t own the footage
This series is literally my childhood🙌🏼I’m so glad i can watch it now on Disney +
1:00 - Josh: "Nowadays you would struggle to find someone, who hasn't heard of Spidermans origin..."
Me: "Jar Jar Abrams."
I am 52 years old!! about a month ago watched the whole entire series again. When it first came out every Saturday morning I would watch it.👍
Number 5 note - there is a script for the final episode where spidey and Mary Jane are reunited. I believe John semper Jr was giving them away via his patreon but sadly I didnt have money at the time :c
I forgot how big Green Goblin’s glider was in this show, it’s big enough to fit 4 people😂
No wonder why the theme song was so awesome
This was seriously the first thing I looked up on Disney+ on launch and I'm still SOO GLAD they have it on there
5:30 he didn't dress like Joe Perry, it was Steven Tyler, Aerosmith's lead singer
I'm an 80s baby so I saw Spider-Man and his amazing friends. But the 90s Spider-Man was the one that stands out, maybe because I was old enough then to remember it better.
82 and amazing friends in 87 with remember and I was 12 when this show aired
We definitely need to talk about the 90s Gargoyles, Captain Planet,Freakazoid(Dexter Douglas) and The magic school bus.
Classic.
😂😂😂😂Why why WHY did you find it necessary to clarify that Freakazoid is Dexter Douglas???🤣🤣🤣🤣
Johnny Jockster the theme song did so why not.And don’t forget candlejack you can.......
@@frankf684 Don't mention C********k, or he'll pack you in a linen back to store you in the attic. Or was it the basement? Or a cupboard? I forgot. On purpose...
This was my entry into Spider-Man fandom. It makes sense that I didn't know who the Sandman was before he appeared in Spider-Man 3 now! I had also read Ultimate Spider-Man by that point and I don't think he appeared in that either.
This is still my favorite cartoon ever with sailor moon right behind it long live the 90s
This is my favorite Spider-Man cartoon. And I was around for the ‘67 show.
@@kecukraftwork1988 there was blood in batman and superman as well too, not alot but you can see some at times
Even spawn had guns and blood
‘94 spidey was my introduction to the character. I was born in ‘93, some of my earliest memories are of that show.
Omfg the Water Clone arc! God, what a mad story arc for a kids show.
DC TAS are also my introductions to all of those characters
Jameson still didnt like spider-man in the series
Yeah he fucked up
It was very clearly a joke.
Josh said Jameson 'loathes' the wall-crawler, not 'loves'.
Loathing
Lol, I was like wait what when he said that
I was born in 2002 and I got to grow up with it. Thank God for re runs on the hub. My childhood consisted of transformers G1, spiderman, spiderman unlimited and batman beyond. The heart of the 90s
"I'm twenty-six, I'm an entertainment lawyer in Beverly Hills." - Billy, Sweet Emotion
I rewatched the series since i grew up with the show in the 90’s. The intro is one i never skipped.
First time reading this. I always thought they were the same character.
@@ChickenRieder Dude, in the comics, there were like three diferent Hobgoblins and I lost count of how many diferent Green Goblins there were, I lost count at some point.....
Here in Brazil Hobgoblin has named ''Duende Macabro'' (Macabre Goblin) with is way coller than Hobgoblin
Hogoblin as "el Duende Verde"? In the Spanish dub, he is only said as "el Duende".
With this Batman the Animated Series , X-Men and Gargoyles among others the 90s were a great time to be a kid
The drum intro for the theme was so crisp. But the cancellation kinda stunted my viewing a bit.
I always loved Spider-Man the Animated series and I watched every episode back the FoxKids era of Saturday morning cartoons. Those were the days.
Comic Spidey wasn't a teen in the 90's.
Your point? Neither was the original comic. I mean the Amazing universe original spiderman comics. He was in college when it happened. The other universes didn't all have it happen when he was a kid. Ultimate universe was one of the few that did, but the rest really didn't.
Don't let Joe Quesada hear you say that.
I watched this with my dad when it aired. It blew my mind he recognized Shocker before the character's name was ever said. And I really liked how Hobgoblin came first here. The idea he was just an ambitious thug who was hired and outfitted by Osborne.
Definitely the best Spiderman series to date.
I just re-watch this recently.
Its one of my favorite comic cartoons
Legendary actor Roscoe Lee Browne also voiced characters on the show.
'94 Spider-Man is my childhood! I miss the 90's sooooooooooooo much!
I remember getting very confused reading about the Hobgoblin because I always thought that was the "real villain" and the Green Goblin was some temporary knock-off. Let's be honest, Hobgoblin is a cooler name.
Not to mention hobgoblin had a cape which meant he must be stronger/better than green goblin 😂 little me thinking
No other Spider-Man in media is this High Quality!
Spectacular Spider-Man is higher quality. It's sad that Disney killed the show so they could trot out 'Ultimate Spider-Man' which was vastly inferior.
Honestly, the finale is SO GOOD, I'm pretty okay with it being the end. Even that ending "cliffhanger" to me feels like something you want to see addressed, but don't actually need resolved. Not that I'd oppose a reboot of course...
Yeah we know he finds Mary Jane we just want to see it happen
Really wish they'd made that sixth season!
Anyway, this version of MJ was my first ever cartoon crush.
I love that Laura Palmer t-shirt
they DID make a toy out of that madame web (I had the black and red spider-man from that line)
