Overview
All underground mine workers will be exposed to drilling and blasting processes. The aim of this video is to provide workers with the critical knowledge on drilling and blasting to aid appreciation of the importance of these mining processes and their related hazards. The video features an introduction to the rock breaking process in mining, followed by a section on how to handle, store and transport explosive products. The third part of the video covers development drilling and blasting practices; and the fourth part discusses production drilling and blasting.
Target Audience
Underground mine workers - the need to identify the potential hazards of working near or with explosives, and the protocols of re-entering a working area after blasting.
Workers responsible for development and production drilling and blasting activities. This video will review drilling and blasting fundamental concepts that are critical to achieving optimal rock breaking outcomes.
All industry stakeholders - those keen to learn more about drilling and blasting in underground mines.

Hello, I'm currently studying mining and minerals engineering at VT(Switching to it next semester, so excited.)
I'm taking diff eq right now and deforms next semester. I can't wait for explosives and fragmentation class. Any tips? I think this summer I need to review gen chem, statics and I am taking calc 3.

The problem I found on underground mines is that they never bother to tell the contractors when they are doing to blast

I can foresee a lot of bootlegs if you were to use this drilling pattern on the perimeter holes unless you aren't dampening your blast, in which case you're putting yourself at risk of widening your cut.

Not while using any explosives while under the influence of alcohol or other substances. Under no circumstances that you're to perform work underground while having alcohol in your system it is instant dismissal.

@@ExploringCabinsandMines when safety is compromised and endangers everybody you're working with as well as your own well being it's no fun getting yourself injured or getting others killed just bcos you had more than enough drinks in your system. You would be mentally impaired that will effect the way you do your work underground.
Let me ask you this, if you were under the influence would you be comfortable handing explosives knowing you could kill someone just by either dropping one on the ground or installing them incorrectly or just having them placed near other flammable objects where it can ignite and explode all around you?
