Tier 5 is actually considered a 'hard' map.. especially for the general audience watching your videos. Ill update this comment but your very first statement on tier 5 was its 'a map that isnt that hard' is really not true for the casual player. Love the video tho. I enjoy blind surfing new maps without saveloc for fun, but this is how you get so much better at difficult things in surf.. saveloc till you get each part down, then go back a save and do it from there and then do it from an even earlier spot in the map. Its the best advice you can give to a beginner or intermediate level surfer. Great vid
tier 5 is not too hard, you should be able to beat one after like a few months of surfing
@@srensen3081Everyone has a different learning curve, i was able to beat a T5 map after about 1 year of surfing (then again, I'm old so that's prolly why xdd)

Love the guide. One thing I would add is binding noclip. Floating around the obstacles to see where you are going and more leisurely planning your route can be very helpful.
One thing I wanna add (and I think you've done that before aswell) is when you are practising a map (works best for linear maps but also staged maps):
you saveloc through it and when you are done, don't just start a run of the map, but go "backwards" in your savelocs, so that you are trying to reach the end from farther and farther away, until you have arrived at the start of the map again. It really speeds up the process instead of failing over and over again from the start

this vids been out for a minute, but i just got back into surf after a long while, coming from tf2 to CSS, now i can saveloc and make my life alot easier, thank you my friend, all the gatekeepers making me upset

One thing I'd like to note is for me personally, I prefer to run the map without looking at the replay first until I'm truly lost.
There're multiple instances where the parts I would fail are implanted into my brain better than looking at the replay. Helps with muscle memory for me personally.
I think your method is much better for a lot of people, but for someone with a goldfish memory like me, maybe doing this can help a little bit better since watching replays can be so lost for someone newer cause of advanced skips and the general velocity of the replay
ye the first time you watch a replay its just a blur, what i do is open it on youtube and reference it as i saveloc. best way imo
unless im playing tier 6+ i usually dont watch the replay, experiencing the map first yourself is more fun imo

In case anyone is wondering, saveloc = save location, even though it's pronounced like 'savelock'
One thing that I find useful is that if you hold the walk key (shift by default) it slows down your turn bind.
In css, pressing the shift button works similar to ctrl/duck. if you make a quick turn with the key held down, you will lose speed. In the video there is an option with toggle, but you can also simulate shift using an alias, in this case there will be no loss of speed.
Example of an alias:
alias +slowbind "cl_yawspeed 140"
alias -slowbind "cl_yawspeed 210"
bind (your key) +slowbind
Been surfing for a horrifically long time (inception of KSF) and have always struggled with mastering the very tactile pre-strafe by using turnbinds. I have taught myself how to do them by mouse movement, but find that it's imperfect and I struggle to maximize starting units to set up a good run. All this time surfing and I haven't found the right resource to learn how to change my habit to use binds for my pre-strafe. A detailed tutorial would be very helpful, most people who have tried to teach me don't have real motivation to teach like you do.

get nulls and a proper longjump bind (a cj bind that also does -w when you press space) and you'll probably see an increase in your prestrafe units

tier 5 is not mid tier sir. I have probs 2000 hours and still struggle with many tier 5s on 66 tick, especially tech. You are v good at the game my friend. Otherwise great vid
That was awesome ! It seems that your need to have a server with special mods to make it work (I mean, you cannot run it locally in offline and have those special commands).
I wonder how you would do this specifically for a surf setup.
i believe you would have to do it through sourcemod, although ive never tried myself. ye i always recommend servers and apply for momentum mod, as its the best offline experience

Repster, when do you think we will be getting turnbinds for cs2? I know theres the built in +turnleft +turnright but the speeds for those are way too high.
i wish i knew, i need them too lol. I haven't tested, but maybe something like autohotkey would work. ill do some testing
@@Repster What do you think of a sensitivity toggle? I currently have MOUSE2 bound so when i hold it down, it triples my m_yaw sensitivity (since I prefer to keep my vertical sensitivity the same). It's helped a lot on for example the last stage of Kitsune because on my normal sense (0.62@800dpi) it's very hard to do spins. I think it's at least a good band-aid solution for cs2 since we don't have turnbinds yet.
For those curious the bind is:
alias +holdSens "m_yaw 0.066"
alias -holdSens "m_yaw 0.022" //0.022 is the default value for m_yaw
bind "MOUSE2" "+holdSens"

Hey, great video!
I'm a casual surfer with probably a bit over 1500 hours in it (which makes it a bit shy of half the time I've spent on cs lol) in about 5-6 years. I haven't surfed since the cs2 release since I was surfing on csgo (easier to find an empty surf server to change the map to the one you wanted).
But the way cs2 is now is quite terrible surfwise, way too many ramp bugs and movement feels a bit inconsistent. I've tried surfing on source but the few servers I managed to find were pretty crowded with people constantly voting to extend the maps.
Is it a problem on low map tiers servers or am I doing something wrong? The hardest map I've ever finished was a tier 4 one, there were also a few tier 3 ones but most of my completions are one tier 1-2.
yeah hopefully cs2 gets a fix soon, fyi csgo is still available for those that are looking for it, theres a tut. on my channel a few vids back

not sure about xplay but others do for sure, check out cs2browser.com to see all server w/o fakes

depends on server but !surftimer + find "centerspeed" or sm_centerspeed will work most of the time - not available in CS2

Starting off a map with watching the replay sucks. Dont reccommend it guys just have fun
Smh Repster...don't teach people bad habits. Q/E turnbinds are just awful. Use your mouse buttons, any of them. For example using your thumb on your mouse you can use m4/m5. Or even m1/m2 if you want to use your index and middle finger. You strafe with your keyboard, aim with your mouse. Why mix those two tasks and work twice as hard with both hands?
It makes logical sense to have have your turnbind on the very device you use to turn, your mouse.

how the fuck do you turn bind with q and e whilst pressing a or d? i tried and my fingers just had no idea haha! mouse1 + 2 turn bind gang !!
turnbinds go on z+c
You could switch the direction of the turnbind, so Q for +right and E for +left, so you can press them comfortably: D+Q and A+E
