    It's a shame you didn't compare the phanteks fan to the Noctua NF-A12X25 since it's the current benchmark for premium fans, still a good video and a solid recommendation nonetheless.

      There's another video doing this same testing on another channel (Major Hardware) right now (they had been given the same testing equipment by Phanteks). That channel tested a completely different set of fans than Bitwit tested here (including the NF-A12X25). I'm *guessing* phanteks sent this same testing kit to even more techtubers and asked each of them to review against a different variety of fans. Bonus for the techtubers: each one is presenting data on different equipment so the viewers aren't watching the same review 18 times in a row. Bonus to Phanteks: wider array of testing data gets put out.

      The scythe GT is the base for most modern fan designs and the F12's only real competition back then for rad usage. The P12 was designed for higher SP/restricted flow like intake case fans, the S12 was for unrestricted flow like exhausts. The F12 is a directed flow fan designed for push mount on rads. The F12 wasn't intended for a case fan as such, but compared to every other case fan adapted to work on rads, it was far superior except for the GT which was it's equal in rad performance. Of course this was back when fans were just considered just airmovers and even cpu cooling was still in its infantcy.

    • @rasmie8858
      @rasmie8858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @SmashStomp Inc It's a bigger fan with double the price tag of other smaller fans that's using a test rig built by the company trying to sell the more expensive bigger fan. In contrary to your stance, I wonder how you manage to look at it and be like "yes this is a test to see what's best for the consumers"
      That's like saying we have 3 commercial helicopters + a military grade fighter jet and we're going to see how fast each one takes to get to the destination while dog fighting in the air assuming the size and price tag is not a concern. The company trying to sell the obviously far more expensive fighter jet would make sure the testing site is optimal for their product to sell the appeal to potential customers.
      I'm not discrediting the whole test, but you can't say this was a genuine comparison either because he didn't show how the rig looks inside, and for a fan it's important especially because simply being bigger gives you more airflow. That's just a basic fact without even testing parameters. At best this video was a promo for Phanteks to sell fans that are far too overpriced for the performance delta compared to more traditionally sized and priced consumer fans, and Kyle definitely willingly took part in it.

    So many questions even before watching the video: why the NF F not an NF-A? Why no arctic P12?
    Also why this specific Testing setup (except for they send exactly that just like with major Hardware) this seems pretty specific and at the same time not very useful for PCs. It's not professional enough to provide usable data, it doesn't even measure pressure, and it's so specialized that you can't really tell if the fan that excels in this setup will also excel on a say CPU cooler radiator or as case fan... So I find the usual test setups on TH-cam where someone just takes an AIO or a CPU cooler actually more useful.

    weird choice on the noctua fan. the noctua nf-f12 is a pressure optimized fan made for coolers. the noctua nf-s12a is an airflow optimized fan made for cases. and finally, the noctua nf-a12 is basically the best of both worlds, and currently the benchmark for all 120mm fans, which is why thermaltake and phanteks tried to replicate it by doing a 3d scan of the fan. dont support plagiarism!

      @@andrewlee672 yes and no. if you compare both fans side by side, you will notice many differences. noctua took an existing design, and improved it. they changed the shape of the blades and coating. the gentle typhoon has a howling sound, while the noctua doesnt. its not a direct copy, and required a lot of engineering and testing.
      the thermaltake on the other hand is a direct copy, except for the arrows. they even copied the coating. thats the issue. if they had taken the existing design, and improved it, then that would have been a different story, but they didnt. they simply did a 3d scan of the blades, and removed the arrows. big whoop.
      at least phanteks put some effort and made more changes. but they also copied the coating. i guess that coating is going to be the new norm for premium fans now, and will be adopted by more manufacturers in the future.

      @SmashStomp Inc At very least real world data would provide context, i.e. this cooler ceteris paribus had temps 2 degrees lower. It's not useful data especially as there's no price discussion. Better at what cost, better by 1 degree etc. So for instance you had one of the lower rated fans and decided to swap for the phanteks one, if the performance increase is only minimal then you might be surprised.

    • @FergMy
      @FergMy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @SmashStomp Inc I don't think that's remotely true, it would not be beyond comprehension to make a test pc out of the most common parts or a standard selection for comparison. My point here was that what does the data shown, other than db (obviously) actually mean. If a fan can move fpm how might that impact it's real world performance does 10% fpm equate to the same in degrees.

    • @FergMy
      @FergMy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @SmashStomp Inc I don't think it's outrageous to assume that the most reviewed on Amazon case or top trending or whatever not only will be exactly what some people have but also not be niche. Don't think you quite need to be a rocket scientist to think that you pick the best sample and run with it, the sample that reflects what real people use. Not sure whether you are contrarian or what but it's not a radical idea. Especially when you state these are the parts we are using, selected to represent the average consumer

    I understand why you controlled the experiments in the way you did, however I had a thought. My GPU is insanely loud compared to my case fans so the noise of these won't really impact me. I'd like to see an experiment that standardises RPM to measure the difference in each fans airflow. Also the absolute max airflow capable regardless of RPM and noise. Finally, I had no idea how much these fans cost at time of filming so I'm not sure if these fans are in competing markets. So how much better are the Phanteks T30 compared to the corsair fans if I would fill my case with it? Is it a good diffrence? Also are there any good performers like the T30 with RGB?

    Whole video did sound like a spnsored one for phanteks, imo.T30 should have definitely been compared to the noctua industrial ppc ones.

      Arctic make great fans. Very efficent, very quiet, very cheap. 5 Arctic P12 fans cost as much as one Noctua A12, and you can daisy chain them.

    This was a really neat video! I think it would be cool if you did a budget and midrange fan shootout with this rig as well.

    Not gonna lie, I bought my Be Quiet! Silent Wings 3 because I wanted to get something amazing like what Noctua has to offer, but I was feeling kinda cheaper that day and I settled for the Silente Wings. I'm really happy that my purchase still is really close to the best. Been using them for over a year in my In Win A1 and I love the results.

      time to update your "knowledge" bud, the only thing that hasn't changed is that they are the most expensive among their respective direct competitors
