    One of the most surprising aspects of your work is your age. You clearly have a passion for restoring items which have missed out on TLC and your patience for meticulous work is greatly rewarded by the finished results. May you continue to go from strength to strength!

    The lamps give such an incredible beautiful light, soooo much better than any kind of modern light.

    Tilley lamps and pressure stoves were the stuff of holidays and scouting when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s. My parents used them when we went on camping holidays in the '60s. When I joined the scouts in the 70s they were using them too. Great to see one still working. I think our stoves were Primus, though Tilley made them too. The modern ones aren't as well made, so these antique ones are much more of a pleasure to use.

    I love your videos. I admittedly have a short attention span and so most videos I watch are around 3-6 minutes. Yours, however, are somewhat hypnotic and never seem long. Something about the sounds and watching something old become new again is therapeutic. I feel the same way about the "Car Cleaning Guru" channel. His voice is soothing like Bob Ross and watching the cars go from grimy to new is wonderful. Thanks!

    Nice restoration! Them tilleys are classics. A few things to note if you plan on using the lamp: The paint on the hood will not withstand the temperatures, hence why tilley enamelled to hoods originally. The washer and washer holder on the pump is the wrong way round ( the rubber should face the tank) and finally the mantle should be tied at both ends of the burner. Good luck.

    • @Condex101
      @Condex101 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very Good points, I thought the mantle at the end was broken, but as not tied at both ends, which i did not realise in the video that may/will explain why i thought it looked broken.

    • @Condex101
      @Condex101 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic work and great video. Only things worth a comment from me i think is the Paint on the Top will not take the heat, it was enameled originally for this reason and the Mantle looks like it is, has been torn broken, however another poster noted that the mantle had only been tied at the top during the assembly and normally is tied top and bottom? In my experience of Mantles (not on Tilly Lamps) they normally only have one tie and like a bag or balloon shape, this said I have seen what "appears to be two ties being removed on some Tilly mantle assemblies. So Tilley's may have different mantles and fitting methods. Either way there is something wrong with the Mantle on the finished one and the one burning looks broken.
      PS - looking at video again it can be seen that when the old hood/top is removed and turned over to see the old manttle or what is left of it it can be seen that the Original Mantle was tied in to places and the pipe was left passing through the manttle and the left OPEN.
      This means the mantle fitted was the wrong type and not one for this Tilly lamp.
      The one that is for this Tilley will have two ties.

    I've watched several of your videos, all of which seem to keep my attention. This particular video was satisfying in the fact that you showed the lantern glowing like it did when it was being used. For someone who seems younger than some guys I've watched on here, you really pay attention to detail. Wish I had you close by, I have a few things that could use your Midas touch! Keep up the good work!

    One suggestion: I'm not sure if this is the case with your mantles, but I believe you're supposed to burn them in by holding an open flame over them. They'll shrink to the size of the lantern and then you remove the flame. After this, you can pump the gas and then light the gas. This prevent the creation of holes in the mantles, providing a more efficient burn.
