    i have been playing rhythm games for around two years now and even if what i mostly played was 4 key i can confidently say that this video nailed every aspect of what makes a song (or a chart) difficult

      @@PO10TIAL if i had to pick it would be quantity sure the song can seem easy by hearing it but if you need to hit like 200 notes in 4 seconds it's gonna be quite hard

    One interesting argument I had with a friend is on the topic of how the player should be punished for messing up. His opinion was that if you aren't good enough to do well at the song, then you should be punished by not being able to finish the song at all. Being allowed to play out the song should be the reward for doing good, was his perspective. My argument was that I play rhythm games to listen to and vibe to the music, and getting kicked out of the song for messing up sucks, which is why I especially like games like rhythm heaven and rhythm doctor. I suspect the real answer is that it doesn't have to be one way or the other, and like most things, just depends on the game.

    • @PO10TIAL
      @PO10TIAL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really is just another aspect, honestly! I think that having the option to play the song out, even if you didn't complete it, is good, even just from a practice point of view. Being able to see the full chart before having to do it again makes going into it the second time that much more exciting. Then again, I can also see how keeping it as a fresh experience until you manage to get to the end can be good. Personally, though, even if I'm playing a game that has no "kick you out" condition, I just straight up restart the level if I flub it up.

    • @godlyvex5543
      @godlyvex5543 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PO10TIAL I also restart when messing up if I'm going for a good score, but usually my first go through at a song will just be to see the whole chart.

      I had a problem with difficulty in friday night funkin once
      I have no trouble at all with regular songs, or even the hardest ones like those from the camellia mod (which also got me into osu!mania) but once you throw smth like insta kills fake notes, abusive arrow mouvement or vibro (aka literal collumns of stacked notes) and I can't play the song
      Sure it is hard and all but it is extremely frustrating to not be able go enjoy a song because the game said no

    ITG: Patterns don’t affect difficulty in stamina play. They do in tech play, however; enjoy the crossovers and footswitches. Also they aren’t based on anything anymore because ITG officials are super Sus and older than some community members. Also also there’s no upper limit to difficulty; keep moving faster until human anatomy just isn’t up to snuff.

    OhOH there's also rib-ribbon for the PS1, which while pretty simple, it allows to import songs, which have their own difficulty according to their wave file.
    There, the difficulty is basically being on beat with the song

    • @PO10TIAL
      @PO10TIAL  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right! I really like Vib ribbon. Used music from it in the video, since I couldn't fit it in.
      Vib has pretty consistent Visuals and Forgiveness. It doesn't throw a lot at you, and it lets you mess up a few times before booting you off. But like you said, the main difficulty comes down to the Quantity of the beats, sure, but also the Patterns.
      Having to press multiple buttons per obstacle, with no real repeating set, since it was randomly generated, means you're really on your toes much more than you would be in a game like Parappa.
