Thanks for sharing. I use cut and then paste for placing simple objects such as those in your presentation, on any surface. It’s so much faster and more reliable.
If I had a grouped object and it was, say 1/2º tilted off ground (Plane) in say two directions. How would I make it parallel to ground with out distorting it? I know I can use "Eneroth Flatten to Plane" if I select only the bottom lines 2D. But that distorts my object. If I try to rotate it by eye, I am just guessing.
When google have owned sketchup (sketchup 8 for example) there was an automatic "sticky" function with which you placed whatever you want to whereever you want within a sec, now it sometimes takes 10min to place things to the right place...annoying.
Thank you, for your advices!!! it seems that finding your project to be not alignet to one plane is a very common problem... I wonder why there is no special function of putting all to the ground...
I have a question about how to align my model with SU standard Top/Front/Side views? I have a model of a house and want to use the standard view buttons but when I use the TOP view for example SU gives me that view but my the front of my house is not shown parallel with the X-axis...it’s rotated at some weird angle like 33.7deg. I have tried establishing my World Axises but that doesn’t seem to influence SU. AHHHHHH...very frustrating ..... it must be something really simple but I can’t figure it out! Any help from anyone???
@@Thesketchupessentials ...here is a picture of what I get when I select TOP VIEW....I want the RED Axis to be horizontal and the house to be rotated along the RED axis but whatever I try to get SU to align the TOP View in that orientation does not work for me. I have watch several of your videos plus several others...and I cannot find anyone who can walk me thru how to make this work. UGH!!! Any help you could give would be REALLY appreciated! drive.google.com/file/d/1Zmht8VJPWjUYwg7TxisyYf3KVvOJaOtK/view?usp=sharing

Why not a plugin to move the lowest point of an object to a plan with one or two clicks?! Click and select a group in one click (sketchup calculate which is the lowest point of the object) and click on a plan point in the second click.. 6 tool options: 2 for the blu axes (1 up, 1 under), 2 red axes and 2 green axes.
Hi everyone! Let me know if you have any questions about this video in the comments below! :)
Holding the Shift key while moving in directions was a veeery big thing for me after 14 years with SketchUp :}

Why not just use the move tool?
TheSketchUpEssentials Like I said, the move tool uses more steps - locate point/ move X/ move Y/ move Z versus cut paste-on-surface.
Lol - where did you say that?
TheSketchUpEssentials “so much faster and reliable...”
@@jeffharmed1616 Ha - late night baby feeding posting by me :) - This is interesting - if it works for you, that's good by me!
Thanks! That hidden geometry tip is really helpful.
THE BEST TIP !
Very informative 😊 👏

I don't fully understand - why not just manually align with the rotate tool?
@@Thesketchupessentials Can rotate tool snap to plane?
Thank You very much.
Great video mate, also can a model from sketchup be opened in ANSYS software, for analysis???
No clue
simple but very imformative
Glad you liked it!
thanks! i always have objects floating around! didn't know i can set base points below objects.
Glad I could help!
Always genial tips to know!!!

It sounds like your model axes are off?
Try exploding. Then making it a group again. That will reset how it sits in the group.

What about using [,,,] Just type it in and it will go to the ground. Move tool must be selected. and axis must be at bottom of object.
Doesn't work for me

Give tips to align lights and other such materials to the top
Thanks for the help, but this seems like a lot of work just to get items to snap to the ground. Hopefully Sketchup improves this over time.
Use the curic align plugin
