- In this video, I'm attempting to finish the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek, and I'm doing it completely on my own: no guide and no porter. In the last video (Part 1), I made it to the halfway point.

That slog up to Tengboche is mean, but the monastery is worth the climb. Heading home I did Gorak Shep to Namche in a day, and the down and up at Tengboche nearly finished me. Really enjoyed these videos. Thanks for posting them. I did this trek solo many years ago and your movie brought back a ton of great memories.

@GoMandiMartin it was always a dream of mine to do this, but I'm currently caring for my mother, who has stage 3 lung cancer. I'm afraid I'm probably too old now at 51.
@@jennawren1672 Hi, Jenna! I am so sorry to hear about your mom. How is she feeling today? You are such an angel to care for her, and I'm sure she's so lucky to have you. This is just my personal opinion after completing this trek on my own at age 41: I think that you can do it! Especially if it's been a dream or goal of yours. As just a thought: you could always join a trekking company and go with a small group or a private guide who will ensure that you are safe from the slightly higher risks that come with age, but I really - really - think that if you have the dream, you have the ability to succeed 💗 And, I saw lots of lots of trekkers much older than you and I, and man, they were superstars! As another thought: another option is to trek 3-4 days and do about half the trek and then trek back down; lots of people were doing that as well. I support you in whatever decision you make, but here's just a tiny bit of encouragement in case it helps 💗 I hope that you and your mom and your entire family all have a great day today, and I'll see you again very soon!

I hope that you'll let me know how it goes 😊 Looking back, I wouldn't really recommend doing it the way I did, but I found a local that, for a fee of about equal to that of the cost of the lodging, booked my teahouses for me. I think I would have been better to just stay at any place of my choosing along the way. I really hope this helps. If you trek this alone without a porter. What is your backpack base weight? Did you stay at lodge's and tea houses each night or expect to camp overnight?

I did successfully complete the trek without a porter, and my base weight was roughly 16.5 lbs. if I remember correctly 😃 I have a video of "What I Packed" that shows every item plus a final weighing at the end. I stayed at teahouses each night; it was close to freezing each night inside the teahouses, so camping outside was absolutely out of the question for me haha. Through the entire trek, I only saw 2 tents for one of the days, and the tents were side by side, and the tents were in the yard of one of the teahouses. Tents weren't really a thing. I really hope this helps. I'll have a video about the teahouses out soon 😊
@@GoMandiMartin Excellent response. Thank you. Did you have to make a reservation early before arriving to each town and then finding a room for each night? Or do you just inquire within upon arriving at each village? I presume as much that an app such as Far Out may be used when you download their map. Or is Far Out app not necessary? Namaste @mandimartin. May enlightenment shine in your life. BTW, 16 lbs is a good backpack base weight.

You are the sweetest, and you are very welcome 😃 I made my reservations about 4 months early because I kept reading that if there are no rooms, that you'd have to sleep on the kitchen floor, and I was terrified of being stuck out in the cold with no shelter or bedding. But, having done it, and if I were to do it again, I don't think that I would have made my reservations ahead of time because my plans changed, and it costed me about 4 times as much. Additionally, it was very easy to walk into any of the teahouses and ask for a room; they seem to all be the exact same amount, which again was way cheaper than what I pre-paid. Everyone's trip is different, but for me, the flexibility would have been better, I think. There are just a few spots where the trail is not well marked. I didn't use an app, but I wish that I would have. Internet is really bad once you get higher, so by the time I started to get nervous that I was going the right way, it was too late for me to try to download any apps. Hi Mandi, congratulations on your solo trek to EBC and thanks for your videos. How did you get down from Base Camp to Lukla and how long did it take you?
Good morning, Evan! I hope that your day is off to a great start. Hm, so I'm not quite ready to share how I got down, but most people take about 4 days to trek down, so it's usually about 12 days total for the in-and-back complete trek, i.e. Lukla to Lukla. We stayed in Gorak Shep the night after EBC, got up early to visit Kala Pathar the next morning and then trekked down to Lukla over 3 days with overnight stops in Periche and Namche.

I did see one teeny tiny post office someone along the way, and that's what I wish I would have used, but I'm sure that the locals have a way to get mail out, so I'm thinking that any teahouse owner would be happy to mail your letter for a small tip. I didn't do any shopping, but hopefully there would be a shop that had a stamp, or of course a stamp could be purchased ahead of time in Kathmandu, etc. 😊

Can I ask when you did this Trek please... Is it still permissable to trek alone in Nepal.... Stunning heavenly experience....
Hi, and sure 😃 I started my trek in the middle of May, and as far as I know, it's still legal to trek solo if you follow the proper procedures. My upcoming video titled "How I Legally Trekked Solo" explains all the steps for how to do it 🤩 But, this might apply only to the Everest Base Camp trek and not the other trekking roues. Just in case it's helpful, that video releases on July 27 🥳
