    I did this trek 7 years ago at the age of 60 with entrepid. The views were amazing. I never took diamox and was fine. I had never trekked anywhere so this was a new experience for me.

      @kurjan1 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you do much training before you went? If so what?

    • @christinemcritchie1359
      @christinemcritchie1359 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kurjan1 I did go to the gym 2 or 3 months in advance of going. I did the trek in May and my home has severe winters so I could do no walking or hiking before. After doing the trek I wished I had just focused on cardio. Walking up many flights of steps or using a stair climber.

    • @Sproogle777
      @Sproogle777 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is encouraging. I am 59 now but looking at doing the trek at age 61 or 62. I'm pretty confident as I've done plenty of hiking uphill, including rough tracks on (small) mountains, play tennis and cycle for several hours, and average a bit over 20,000 steps a day.
      I assume most others in your group would have been young people. Was this awkward at all?

    • @christinemcritchie1359
      @christinemcritchie1359 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Sproogle777 actually there was 1 close to 50 and 3 others in their 60s. Rest were 40 and under and a couple around 20. 2 got sick with cold, 1 suffered it out and the other took a helicopter back to lukla. I did get sick with diarrhea and throwing up the first night had to stay back because I was still sick the next morning. I continued the trek the following day. I did catch up to my group when they did an acclimation day but after being so sick the guide made me stay back a second day so I took a different route and caught up again and skipped the second acclimation day in order to finish trek with group. Met several people who had to turn back due to altitude sickness. My guide was very surprised I was able to complete the trek due to the fact I had no trekking experience.

    • @Sproogle777
      @Sproogle777 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@christinemcritchie1359 This is great information, thank you. I know the trekking itself is well within my capabilities, but it seems altitude sickness just affects everyone differently and randomly. Still you'll never know if you don't try!

      @@steffmorris I just watched a story about people who made a whole journey of just getting the base camp. So apparently Basecamp is a destination as well? The environment is truly amazing, And it was a 2-hour documentary. It showed how the shops got smaller and smaller and the prices got higher on the way to Basecamp and the higher you went. Everything you said was true, just in a much more condensed version. It was amazing to see how you could walk for 3 hours and then a village would pop out of nowhere, full of life and people. The friendliness of everyone was also apparent. I've always wanted to know what people would want to do it and the videos probably don't do it justice but at least give me a good idea why

    4:50 : acclimatisation causes one to loose more water than usual through increased urination and that must be replaced. It is only 1 to 1.5 liters per day extra. Drinking a lot of water does not speed or help acclimatisation process, that is a common misunderstanding. So drinking when thirsty is enough.

    Hi! Great video, super informative and helpful. I read online that you need to have climbed a mountain in Nepal/have previously climbed to a certain height prior to climbing the Mount Everest, but I don’t know if they were referring to base camp or climbing high up Everest. Do you know if there are any requirements like that or is it just general fitness?

    Nice video. I would add metrodizinole antibiotic for things like Gardia and bugs in the tummy. Also pick up some sleeping tabs as sleeping at altitude can be tricky. Ive never been in high season as cant face the crowds, went last xmas, nobody there, fecking cold at night, -10 in the room but the weather was clear most of the time, took the lukla flight out after a snowy evening, was awesome. Oh yes a bonus tip, take an umbrella so you can trek without a rain jacket, that sweatville
