- Episode 1 of The Day Today didn't exactly tiptoe into the spotlight of primetime television, it went all out and this Jam Festival Interview was the highlight of the episode and one of many highlights of the entire series.
An absolute classic. - ตลก
She didn’t like the deal, but she had to go along with it.
🤣🤣🤣
How did she say it, in German?
Ich nichten lichten
@@michaeldixon9942 No you don't Michael. Because that means "Get me a taxi, I'm late for my plane."
Had to accept trenta percenta.
he has nailed paxman's dismissive attitude and abrasive tone completely, it is fantastic
Listening to the audio alone you could be forgiven for thinking it was Paxman.
He’s a great actor. Comedians often are, Whitehouse and Enfield also.
Never heard of Paxman until today, and wow, it's uncanny. I'm guessing it's who he based the character on?
He does have a point though.
I love the self-congratulatory grin at the end.
Hard news interviewing even on soft news stories
@@SnabbKassa OH look, a nazi wandered in
Haha. Same after he has destroyed Peter ohanraohandrhan
Oh, I thought that was just a polite, news-anchor-y "This is all part of the program, lovely, ey?" grin, which is even funnier for me
He’s dead pleased with himself 😂
The shit-eating grin at the end sells the entire thing.
man, that actress fucking SELLS the whole scene, some of the funniest sobbing I've ever seen
You missed the 76 rehearsals.
The zoom in on her as soon as she starts crying is the cherry on the top.
Actor* women get the shit end of the stick enough without you calling her an actress.
@@mrcoiganable2988 * Lady actor.
@@mrcoiganable2988 Am I missing something? Wtf are you talking about?
i hope the actress comes here once a year to read how much we love this 30 years later.
Whenever Sebastian Coe appears in the news, you will always find me in the comments section. And usually there’s someone replying with “well I think he’s made a very worthwhile contribution!!”
I wish they'd echo the preceding part.
thank you for doing God's work
Kindred spirits
_"I hate Sebastian Coe!"_
He wasn't kidding. He ribbed him, during Brass Eye.
"I hate Sebastian Coe!" is my response whenever I hear his name
I'm sure that's a running gag originating in the On the Hour stuff but I can't remember what it was about now...
He's chancellor of my uni, I hate him too 😂😂
That all changed in ‘01 when Paedogeddon came along.
I've often wondered why he clearly had a thing about Portillo.
I love how because Chris hates Sebastian Coe, it makes his contribution less worthwhile. The bit with him asking if it's been very upsetting for her is outstanding. Vicious
I love how he smiles at the very end like it never even happened. That was so paxman-esque...
10 years too late but I took it as (in character), "Didn't I do well? Aren't I clever?"
@@weswheel4834 Smile of victory 😀
he loves it
The actress reappeared three years later in I'm Alan Partridge, as the wife of the deceased BBC director (in the funeral scene where Alan's wearing a _somewhat_ inappropriate jacket)
Castrol GTX 😂
She did get a travel alarm clock so swings and roundabouts
He went full Paxman there!
J MG it’s sssooo Paxman. If you substituted the word ‘jam’ for ‘famous composer’ or ‘neutron’ and shut your eyes, it’s University Challenge
@@sturycroft a neutron festival lol?
0:26
Pure Paxo
He's far more polite than Paxman
We need more of these hard hitting interviews.
'Have you anything else to say in your defence?' is pure Chris Morris.
Back when this first aired, i was doing my college coursework whilst this was on the TV in the background. I wasn’t paying much attention and thought this was just a normal current affairs programme. Then the woman started crying, i looked up and realised it was a spoof then was hooked.
"has this been upsetting for you?" ....gold
Ikr
“Have you anything else to say... in your defence?”
The slow zoom on her face while crying is gold
1:35 - The switch in Chris tone here is just fantastic.
As if he's sympathetic towards her
Sadistic.
RIP Glenys Kinnock, the highlight of her career, supporting the Jam Festival
"Even if you were twice as ugly as you are which is very ugly indeed!" That one's going into my day to day talk
Hey, 14 years later... LOL. Watch Brass Eye. I think the episode was "Paedogeddon" quote: "You're wrong and you're a grotesquely ugly freak". Ever since I heard that one I've been hoping for an opportunity to use it at work - in carefully selected company of course.
@@winsomehax damn... this was the origin story.
@@winsomehax It wasn't the 2001 Special (Peadogeddon) - It was from the first episode; Animals
It's the literal opening scene around the dinner table discussing animal cruelty 😂
Her reaction to the ugly comment cracks me up every time 🤣
It wasn't the insults or the sobbing, it was the slow closeup that hit hardest BRUHAHAHAHA.
This is the kind of interview we just don't see anymore - speaking truth to power.
"You could make more money if you sat outside a tube station with hat on the ground even if you were twice as ugly as you are, which is very ugly indeed. This must be very upsetting for you, have you anything else to say in your defence? " Brilliant line 😂😂
God that smirk at the end is the icing on the cake.
Look like you mean it. Look down at the ground and say sorry.
The conviction with which he says “I hate Sebastian Coe” always gets me.
“This has been very upsetting for you” 😂
Then welcome... in Jaaaaaam festival
Great that the graphics team decided to serve the jam on... a trowel!
should be more like “jjjjjjjaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmm fffffffffeeeeeeeeeesssssseeeeeeetttttttiiiiiivvvvvvaaaaallllll”
Oooh. Arrested for copying dogs. Welcome!
Exactly what I was thinking! Who knew where the JAM or BLUE JAM thing came from?
@@SkinnyEMedia I think Chris just likes the word
The whispering of "Do you have anything else to say in your defence" is brilliant like she was in court
He has a point. A lot of these charity fund raisers do less for actual charity than if you just got a real job and bought shit for the homeless directly.
I've often thought the same
Don’t worry. They all get charity tax breaks to go along with their self-indulgence and virtue signaling.
Yeah really, what do homeless people want jam for? The ones I've seen don't even have toasters.
Very true - they could've raised more money auctioning dogs.
Same with the "I'm raising money so I can go abroad and help build a school, yes it would be more helpful to not waste money on flights and accomodation and just give all the money to the school."
I just love how unnecessarily vicious that remark is about her being ugly. It's great satire on tone-deaf, aggressive, uncaring TV interviewer questioning.
Love how he looks so proud of himself at the end :P
Stop flirting, you two.
Exactly, if a male is that insulting to a female then he’s definitely flirting
@@jamiengo2343 cooooooooooorrrr
@@callixvision6481 I mean it’s true right?
@@jamiengo2343 That comment was 12 years old. The poor bloke who posted it is probably dead by now.
@@TheButterMinecart1 tbh in this day and age the guy who made the comment 5 months ago is probably dead too
you gotta love his satisfied smile at the end as he says 'Thank you'
That had me in tears laughing, totally caught me
By surprise and has literally made my day. The funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
I love how she essentially agrees that she's convinced celebrities to 'waste their time'
That grin at the end - always makes me laugh.
his little smug smile at the end is such a good finish to a great sketch! :D
Chris Morris is one of a kind....
A one off man mental
she's a pretty good actor.look at chris morris' face at the end - priceless!
Whenever anyone mentions Sebastian Coe I have to quote that line!
"How dare you come on this programme and say "Hey look at me, I'm raising £1500 for the homeless."
"Chris Morris wins.... BRUTALITY!"
His smile at the end just makes it all the more cruel. I love Chris Morris.
That grin, as the endorphins fly through his brain.
14 people love Sebastian Coe
Bollocks
This is pure brilliance! The way he is all cutesy at the start then.......takes her down Paxman stylee!! Hahahaha!!
he's always cutesy, he's gorgeous
this guy nailed the british media
She’s such a good actress. That shocked face! 🤣
It's the same actress that plays Tony Hayers' widow in Towering Alan.
+Will Man Have you got a battery for an Ericsson?
The 90s was a rough time for Mrs Hayers. First she gets shamed on national TV, then her husband goes full-on Rod Hull.
I don't think it is, it looks like Rosamund Pike to me unless you have any evidence to show me otherwise
Barrie Wright Rosamund Pike was a teenager when this was recorded.
Yeah, I've DONE her
Loving the look on his face at the end.
sheer class. I think Paxman everytime and now know that he modelled himself on Chris Morris
the best part is "...has this been very upsetting for you?" Fucking Hilarious!
For all the Americans watching this isn't a sketch this a real interview. It still happens all the time.
I haven't seen this in about 20 years, but when I saw the thumbnail I knew there was some killer line in it that I couldn't quite remember. Sure enough, it was the "twice as ugly as you are, which is very ugly indeed!" Still hilarious.
It’s perfect satire start to finish.
Never gets old
You could make more money auctioning dogs!
lovin the emotional close ups, more please
This women played Simon's mum in the kids TV show, Simon And The Witch.
I had forgotten that existed! Thank you!!
Mrs erm?
lol My brother's friend played one of the (very tall) bullies in that.
@@beingsshepherd wow you’re famous
@@neilgodfrey2669 Keep trying.
This made me laugh out loud. Especially the end.🤣
Brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant brilliant.
'You could make more money sitting outside a Tube station, even if you were twice as ugly as you are, which is very ugly indeed'
Hilarious. Absolute genius.
You know what is written on your gravestone?
"Yes"
What?
"Charity"
Janet, thank you
I love it. I do get annoyed when interviewers go overboard trying to intimidate people who really are insignificant too.
"auctioning dogs"
Twenty years ago this seemed far fetched but the BBC News Channel is exactly like this now. Now over to our technology correspondent Rory Kettleson Jones who will repeat exactly what I've already told you and very slowly.
🤣
got to love the close up
Amazing, one of the funniest Chris morris moments!! I'm wondering if that classic line is ringing true for any olympic ticket buyers at the mo lol.
"this must be very upseting for you" luv it!
Chris Morris is such a genius
Holy crap, he makes some solid points.
do you anything else to say in your defence? GENIUS!! love chris morris!
Chris Morris demonstrating that the Brits do Satire and Parody best!
Chris Morris, when will you come back and grace our televisions...
Jesus, he sounds exactly like Paxman.
Piers Morgan took Chris’ approach on this 100% seriously as an interview strategy.
"This must have been very upsetting for you."
XD
the grin at the end has me dead oh god-
its a very worthwhile cause
"Even if you were twice as ugly as you are which is very ugly indeed!" Chris Morris is a genius!!!
I love how he grins after maiking the woman cry.
Love the voyeuristic close up.
"This must be very upsetting for you" erm, yeah, you just upset her 🤣🤣
I'm gonna have to try that one.
She'e great!
The thing is, he is right.
At the time, in an interview in Time Out, Chris Morris said that when London Tonight came on the air they thought "No! They beat us to it!" (or words to that effect).
Television gold here.
Chris Morris is a lovely chap.
Perfect
He's definitely channeling his inner Jeremy Paxman
Pure Paxman. Genius.
Morris is a genius!
chris morris is great at just going from calm to mental
Chris Morris genius, inventor of God flavored beer tweezers
Auctioning dogs. The last 5 seconds 😂
