It's obviously been years since you made this video, but gimbal newcomers like myself still find this very useful. Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Thank You so much, that’s great to hear that it keeps on giving!
Thanks for just showing us to fix it and not talking for 15 minutes about your overall knowledge. Very informative and worked perfectly!!
It would take much longer than 15 minutes to talk about my overall knowledge, maybe 17/18 minutes. Thanks for dropping by!
Simple clear, and straight to the point. Excellent video. Thanks very much for posting
You're welcome!
One of the best tutorial i ever come across till now!!!! 👍👍👍
Thank You!
The best tutorial on TH-cam. Thank you.
This video really helped. Re the pan axis balance the manual says tilt forward however DJI official tutorial on TH-cam says tilt backwards. This video helped to clarify it should be in fact, tilt forwards. And I didn't know about the balance test until now. Super helpful as it give the re-assurance I'm not burning out the motors. Thanks, you got a sub!
I'm glad this helped you Elaine! Yes, tilt forward sideways, it's like a 45 angle tilt to get it right, slightly odd. Forward and to the right. Happy to have you on board, I am working on a few more RS2 videos so hopefully will drop soon.
for me, this is the best video explaining how to properly balance this gimbal. THANKS, A LOT
Thank You!
Thank you Phillip, it was the fastest and simplest video I've ever seen.

Appreciate this video I’ve struggled with this off and on depending my my lens! This is video is straight and to the point no fluff!!
This was actually helpful. Thank you. I still feel like a caveman who's just discovered fire using this contraption, but I'm sure with some time I'll feel like a caveman who's just discovered some kind of proto language!
Finally! I got! Thanks great instructions.
if everyone made videos like you where they just cut to the chase, I'd save so much time. THANK U

for me same problem pan axis problem but gimbal balace is good but idont konw why foorage is sakey
i am using canon 90d
This is the best demonstration of DJI RS2 gimbal balancing ever on youtube. (everyone forgets the second balancing step)
Please also explain the operation from 4:08 onwards. Do all DJI RS2's work on the app? And I see that at 4:08 sec. you move it with the back button. Does this apply to all DJI RS2 gimbals or is there some kind of accessory, cable, connection required? How to connect to dji rsc2? Wifi? I have never seen this connection to the phone app on and fine tuning on the app. isn't it enough just fine tuning on the gimbal itself without the phone?
Super help full I appreciate it!

These are enormously helpful videos. Subscribed. I just wish you shot on Canon instead of Sony.
Thank You Sabrina! haha, well, I invested heavily into Sony after ditching Nikon a few years ago, but right now, I feel that all the cameras are more or less on the same level, it's us - the creators, that make the difference now.
Thanks for this video, my RS 2 arrives this weekend and I can't wait.

Thanks man!! This is my first gimbal, I did not balance it correctly in the first case and got shaky footage continously and I thought I had bought a machine that doesn't work. But after your video I'm in love with it again!! Thanks
Yes, balance is very important, every time. You’re welcome, glad it helped!
Hey Phillip, can you post a link for the screwdriver plz? Great job on the video.
Hi Arthur, it's funny, it's hard to pick it up. You can easily get it on Aliexpress though, do a search for Tilta screwdriver and it'll pop up in a variety of colours. That's where I got mine. Thank You!
So Appreciate

Best explanation.. saw lot of videos but this was most helpful.. can you make some more videos on how to use rs2 and focus videos using rs2 without using focus motor 😃
Thank You! Yes, I'm preparing to get a lot more of these out, and I have a load of accessories from SmallRig so I'll get a video about those too.
@@PhillipSkraba I am facing a lot of issues in managing focus in videos while panning using gimbal .. can you also prepare a tutorial on how to manage focus in videos shooting using gimbals … and what are the best auto focus settings in video
Sure! That's a video I have in mind too, focus. I'll be working on that one soon.
Thank you very much for the informative video. I'm thinking about buying the RSC 2. Do you think it can carry a light camera (ca. 450g) with the Sigma 24-105 (850g)? Is it possible to balance? I'm not sure, because it would be a bit front heavy...
Nice video dude 👍 👌....what's the name or link to that tripod that works with rs2?
The one I use is the Manfrotto 055xprob, well, a slightly older version with a better head than the new one, you might be able to still pick it up somewhere. It's a tripod I bought when I lived in LA 10 years ago, and it's still like new today.
Excellent! perfectly described and succinct - I dropped you a subscribe and like thank you!
Great Tutorial! Although The Balance test part of the app doesn't let me "Begin Test" it only lets me watch tutorials... any idea how to fix this?
i own the dji rs3
That Tilta Tool is AWESOME. So useful. But where in the world can I buy it? Searched everywhere including the Tilta website, nothing... :(
And also, fantastic vid. Truly helped me balance the RS 2.
Thank You, glad I could help out! I bought the Tilta tool from Aliexpress as I couldn't find it either, it took 3 weeks but well worth it, excellent tool!
Super easy tutorial. Once balance test success, do we need to unlock all motors to use this gimbal. This is my first gimbal 😊 please advise
First you need to unlock all motors to do the balance test, then it's ready!
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah I unlocked during Balance test and completed successfully. do I need to unlock all motors during gimbal usage?
Yes, all motors need to be unlocked or the gimbal will go to sleep.
@@PhillipSkraba wow thank you for the reply :)
Anytime!
Thx

haha, you're welcome!
hii sir, this is very very useful, and after balancing my gimbal is switch on the camera a7r4 is some USB problem, check the connection error, I am going to change the all settings in USB menu settings, how can I solve this problem
Thanks! Check the compatibility list and see what cable you need to be using, that's usually the usb problem.
Really great Tutorial.
Quick question.
I have a Canon EOS R and a cage for it.
It fits with the cage on the RS2 but the roll axis is of to the left and right.
It tilts to the left and to the right.
Any recommendations?
That is odd, so what does the test say?
@@PhillipSkraba didn’t test it yet.
I took the cage off and it worked.
Gonna try again tomorrow.
Was the first time setting it up for me.
Maybe i was too impatient.
Thanks for the reply, and the tutorial🙏🏻
Be patient, no rush. I usually shoot with a cage on, it should be fine.
@@PhillipSkraba cheers man🙏🏻I’ll make it work
@@PhillipSkraba tried again and it worked🎉cheers mate🙏🏻
Wicked video dude, I can get all the axis great, BUT I cannot get my roll to 'stay' when I move it whilst balancing. The camera is balanced perfectly on the tilt, and the roll it sits completely happily 'flat', but if I move it to one side or the other, it rotates back to that lower position. Any ideas? Is it counterweight time or something?
It's no doubt the most difficult one to balance, with my setup, Sony A73 series cameras and those big GM lenses I have it almost pulled all the way out, right there, I find that's the sweet spot for me. It's a hard nut to crack when balancing sometimes, but when you get it right and it doesn't move it's worth getting a cool beer ready to celebrate! What setup are you using? As you can see at 3:25 I have it at around 0.3 more or less.
You can auto tune by pressing the trigger and M button at the back at the same time for 5 secs and your gimbal will do its calibrating process
I just press the top left button on the screen, but that sounds like fun too!
@@PhillipSkraba Didn’t know that hahaha, will give that a try too!
I am having a terrible time trying to balance my pan axis so it will report excellent balance. I use a Canon R5 with Sigma Art lenses which are very heavy on the glass. Do you have any special tips?
That's always a pain, if you set it up right, it should sit somewhere between 0-1. Pick it up, tilt it to the right at an angle and see how you're doing, move it delicately, sooo delicately every time and you should be fine. Find where that magic number is and remember it.
@@PhillipSkraba Ok, I will give it a bit more patience then. Also, I was wondering, have you ever balanced a camera on the RS2 with an external monitor (like a Ninja V) in a fixed position (eg. not rotating with the camera) and HDMI cable attached?
@@PhillipSkraba Oh wow, thank you so much dude! I was following the official DJI video and trying tilting backward and for some reason I just couldn't get it perfectly balance. So much easier when I tilted to the right. Balance test was excellent on all three axis!
Hello Philip i did exactly what you did but there is something missing with the tilt axe the camera is not tilting when i unlocked all axes. the test inclination is a must?
Hi Tarek, so you did everything, and when it does the test does it show excellent for everything? The camera should stay in place if the tilt axis is correctly balanced.
@@PhillipSkraba yes i did everything and it all balanced perfectly but when i turn it on the tilt axis was not moving especially when i was trying it on a low angle and tilted up it was not tilting properly
That is odd, maybe the centre of gravity is off on the baseplate. That could cause stress to the motors.
@@PhillipSkraba ok thank you so much i will recheck, it is my first time i use a gimbal honestly. At first when i was trying to use it the pan motor heat up so i turned it off quickly, i felt there is something wrong. But i will recheck it thanks again Philip
I am a new user do we have to turn off images stabiliser of the lens? since I am using gimbal or does the IS on give double surety
I'll be honest with you, I never do, so I'm sure you'll be fine if you don't.
What tripod are you using with the gimbal? I think I may want to set mine up like that for real estate photography/video
I'm using the Manfrotto 055XPROB + 808RC4, had it for around 10 years, best photo tripod I've ever had!
Hi Phillip,
Great video once more!
I connect the battery grip to the gimble. There is a click mechanism. it wobbles a bit at that point. with you, too?
Thanks Marco
Thanks Marco! Yes, when I put it in the first time I was worried! So click it in as usual, and pull the level nice and tight, it doesn't go all the way, just pull it with your finger until it won't go anymore, then the battery grip shouldn't wobble anymore! Let me know if it's okay.
Thanks for the video! Would you recommend always doing both the autotune and the test after switching lenses? I‘m using MFT lenses with a GH5 and the 3 lenses I use most are quite similar in weight and size. Would it damage the gimbal if I don‘t have the time to always fully calibrate it?
I always do the autotune and test, it's pretty fast and gives me peace of mind, as well as letting the motors control the payload better. If you don't have time and the gimbal is working fine, then that's okay. If however it goes to sleep that basically means the motors are under strain, nothing bad will happen, the gimbal will just go to sleep.
I balanced it perfectly and calibrated it auto-tuned it and it's still vibrates sometimes
It shouldn’t, unless you’re being mean to it.
what tripod are you using. can you please share bnh link
Sure! It's no doubt one of the best tripods I own, been using it for around 12 years and it's still like new - amzn.to/3f9c9Qh Manfrotto 055XPROB
How can I download the app, and what's the name of the app used for the guide, please?
Thanks so much!
Have you found a good solution for mounting/quick release plates? The plates that came with the RS2 don't fit my manfrotto tripods, what would you recommend?
You’re welcome! It’s funny, most of us use Manfrotto plates and they go with Arca Swiss 🤦🏻♂️ I’m about to start dropping more videos on the RS 2 so I’ll be testing out various options 👌🏻
I followed all the instructions and did the motor parameters auto tune and balance test that came out excellent but it sways left to right after I stop moving.
Have you updated it, mine did that the first time I turned it on, updates have done a lot since then though.
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah I did update it. Try calibrating it horizontal and vertical and went to user control and saw CH3 was 0 which another person on forum said if not 0 would be issue.
Hey Phil,
thanks for the video very informative, have a question, I noticed that on your Sony you have an arca swiss type cage. I have a sunway foto cage on my rig and it will not mount up to the DJI plate (to shallow). If you dont mind, could you let me know what brand cage you are using?
Thanks
Rick
Hi Richard, I'm using an 8Sinn cage, I've made a couple of videos about their cages, it's a Polish company. In my opinion they make some of the most beautiful cages in the world.
I liked your video very much. Thanks. But i have some problems to balance my camcorder sony fdr ax 100. allthough it is compatible . In the manual they say due the special design of the camera , i have to put it upside down so that the camera faces the roll motor. I don't understand that very well. I wonder if you can help me?
Really?? That sounds very odd, it looks like it would be fine balanced like every other camera. Have you tried balancing it like I do in this video? It should in theory work just fine this way.
Hi Phillip, do you set your rs2 in a smooth cinematic mode? Imo the movement of the gimbal is way to fast. If yes, what dou you recommend.
Your tip about the wooble works. Thanks a lot.
Well, if you set everything on slow on the actual Ronin screen on the gimbal you instantly slow down the movements. I'm still playing with settings to get everything feeling just right, but as soon as I dial them in, I'll drop a video for you guys.
@@PhillipSkraba thanks for doing so good video stuff! Greetings from germany.
@@Marco-zp7nb Thank You, greetings from your neighbour Poland.
Smooth cinematic is intended for heavy camera gear as it kicks the motors into overdrive to stabilize. If you’re not pushing weight I think it’s not needed.
Appreciate the video. I'm using Canon R6 with the RF 24-70 lense and am having a bear of a time getting it to balance appropriately. Anyone else experiencing the same?
I have a similar set up with my Sony a7s3 and 24-70, it'll handle it no problem, just need a big of patience to balance it.
I was using zhiyun crane plus for 3 years, I couldn’t use my sigma 18-35 because it is so heavy for camera..my rsc2 just came now and my goodness.. it’s like 10x upgrade.. so easy to use and pack
I tried the Crane a couple of times, yes, the RS2 and RSC2 are just monsters, love them to bits!
So I went through the steps to balance it. It all looks good. I went through the APP and after the balance test - which said all is excellent. the camera now leans to the left about 15degrees. and doesn't come back to level when moving it around. Any suggestions.?
Rs2 just arrived....if using a telephoto lens do you have to recalibrate every time you change the focal length also when adding extras like raven eye.
Yes, I would. Otherwise the motors could be under or over powered which would lead the RS 2 to go into sleep mode. It only takes a minute and it'll give you peace of mind when filming.
how do you do the test without the phone app? I can't find it in the onboard menu?
Top right button should be calibration, once you've done that you should be able to see all axis and they will show you if you're in the green (at 0) or if you're stressing the motors.
I have a canon eos r with the control ring adapter with a sigma 18-35 lens. I have a difficult time trying to balance it, do you have any advice?
Seriously front heavy? I have the same with this setup, if you pull the camera pretty far back on the rails it should be okay as a start point and then go through my points here.
Juss got my upgrade from RSC to the RS2 and on the test had it always show unbalanced and motors would quickly go to sleep. Been missing the Handle had to also get balanced when you turned the Cam Upwards.
Another one, once in use why does it keep panning to the top direction here I mean it turn the camera updlwards slowly.
What could that be
how did you balance it off at 15 degrees did you use your legs to support it?
I had it on a tripod with a ballhead, easiest way. However, when I don't have that I just use books or whatever I have to get it done.
Hi - I can't seem to calibrate it. I am getting the "Calibration failed. Pan axis is locked." error. But I did checked and the pan axis is unlocked. What am I missing?
Can you lock the one of axis’s when the gimbal is on? I want to lock the pan axis for when the RS2 is on my steadycam rig.
Sure! You have different modes you can use, lock an axis, which will help when you want to keep things straight.
What tripod did you have the gimbal on?
I had it on the Manfrotto 055XPROB with the 808RC4 head. It's a photo setup, and one I'd really recommend, I think I've had it for 10 years and it's good as the day I bought it.
Thank you. And awesome video. Very helpful
