Severing the ship in half kills the entire crew because the entire ship gets depressurized?? Aaalllright.... which moron was responsible for assuring to install 0 Airlocks/Bulkheads into that thing? Those things dont even need power to stay closed.
All the ships in Star Wars were designed by idiots. They're built like boats, with decks parallel to the main thrust vector instead of perpendicular to it. They're utterly unuseable.
Well to be fair anti-grav technology is so common place in the Star Wars universe that it can be used on some moisture farmers bet up jalopy. Basically the decks of the ships are tiled with anti-grv plates countering the trust conferred to the ship allowing the ship to perform high speed maneuvers without exposing the crew to anymore g-force than what they would encounter on their home world.
I would just put 40% of all Shield Power to the Thin neck (We know Star Wars Ships can Readjust their Shielding). It would be better than having 1 Lucky Shot Sever the Ship in two. I'd Like to think that the Nebulon-B has a Hanger Bay on the aft Module enabling it to Carry at least a dozen Fighters. It just seems so Small to be a 300 Meter long Ship. The Length is actually 338 Meters if we base it on the Model used (Not that it matters its only a 38 Meter difference lol)
Seems to me like the whole "ship venting" issue could be easily prevented by a simple set of doors.. Cheap upgrade and would prevent the ships crew from suffocating if the connecting spar got damaged or even severed. The ship would still be a loss, but at least the crew has a chance of making it to the escape pods. Also its a hell of a lot easier to recruit people to serve on a ship if its not a massive death trap :D
Always liked using these in EaW. Good medim sized ship for taking similar and lighter ships, and in packs they could even take on an ISD. Never got why they couldn't just put a few emergency bulkheads along the length of the spar to slam shut during a hull breach. Even a few crushed crewmen is probably better than depressurizing the entire deck or even entire ship...
It was a silly joke, bud. Hence the smiley at the end. ;p I think you overthought it. I'm sure whoever came up with the designation had something like that in mind. But since you never see it in the material they put out it's one of those silly things.
Emp United Galactic Basic sometimes does in fact use our Latin alphabet. It’s known as the High Galactic Alphabet, and it is often used by companies to name their products, and by snooty upper-class folk.
I can't help but question what the designers for some of these Star Wars ships were thinking when they came up with the structure? I mean, what an obvious weakness. A Hammerhead Corvette could ram right through the spar. Talk about cheap construction.
As I'm referring to the topic of this video, I'll point out that this ship is meant for a combat role. Many warships in Star Wars have questionable designs that make me want to shot the genius responsible for them.
My god, I believe you are right about the Venators not having guns below them. I have always wondered about Star Wars naval battle doctrine and wish for a video on the subject but can't find any on the various Star Wars channels. Does make me wonder how they'd fair against the navies of Halo or Mass Effect. Civilizations with an actual grasp of 3D combat.
aside from Star Wars not having nearly realistic Starships (whatever that can be in the possible future) the most reasonable explanation is the shields. And a few stronger materials in the weak spots so they don't get blown or torn immediately when the Shield is down.
Great one, always wondered about the lore on this one! Would love to see some more Stargate, perhaps a Ha'tak or an Al'kesh? Whatever you do keep up the good work dude!!
like a content but i would like to see a bit more compression in these videos to give some sense of what these ships can do in these universes. like for this ship, what ships in the imperial navy could the Nebulon-B go up against in a straight up battle and win? could it out maneuver other ships and take a victory where it would other wise loose. as an escort ship would it harass the enemies larger ships or screen it own larger ships or both and how did fare compared to other ships in a similar class? like i said enjoy the content just would like to have a better scene of the ship capabilities compared to other ship in the same universe. good work though.
This is one of the few PURE spaceship designs made for destination to destination only in space using the middle to haul massive amounts of cargo or even the ship that is designed for only atmospheric transport. This ship hauling a Quadjumper would be a perfect compliment to each other.
I'd still love to see something like EC Henry's Imp Nebulon-B redesign on the screen one day. The idea that the ship we see isn't the production model, but a stripped down skeleton of what the ship was meant to be, is appealing and in line with both the rebellion's inclination to hot rod every ship that came into their possession, and the likelihood that the ones they got their hands on were basically already mothballed and stripped for the recycling centers before they even got their hands on them.
i like your style, fast and summarized yet detailed enough for us fans to understand. and that english accent is well suited for this type of channel. good work man! subbed!
that beam like hall in the middle, I can't not complain about that, the narrow spar made it sooooooo vulnrable, I would make it far thicker to make it more durable
It looks like an actual spaceship. As in many spaceships fall into the trap of looking somewhat aerodynamic despite them being spaceships therefore normally not even going near atmosphere.
Space Opera sometimes sets up situations that might be ruined if reasonable questions are asked. However, in this case, I'm thinking about a comparison to the famous Mutiny on the H.M.S. Bounty, where a popular officer with the crew led the mutiny against the draconic measures of Captain Bligh (based, by the way, on a real historical incident). Another more recent event was the 1990 collapse of the Soviet Union. The military there was given orders that they could not follow, so they joined the poulist movement under Boris Yeltsin against the Communists. Given the popular support that the Alliance appeared to have amongst oppressed planets, it's not too inconceivable to think that a number of these ships that had been assigned to subordinate national forces had such uprisings.
+Bastian Arcbast they could and did capture Imperial corvettes, read the novel X-Wing Wrath Squadron and there is a good (and highly amusing) example of how the aliance could capture imperial ships. But yes, as VegialLF7 said, a lot of imperials defected, especialy after the destruction of Alderaan and major Imperial defeats like Endor, later in the no longer canon Expanded Universe "legends" timeline the New Republic navy contained a lot of Star Destroyers, eventuraly they become the main capatal ship of the Republic there are also plenty of examples if a ship captain surrendering his ship rather than sacrificing the crew, most notably a Super class Star Destroyer, but also many cases with smaller ships.
"Alright, the Death Star 2 is know fully operational. This mighty battlestation can lay waste to entire planets. And we have a fleet of rebel ships in our sights! What shall we target first?" "How about the 1 kilometer long rebel flagship?" "What? Don't be ridiculous! Target the 300 meter long medical ship!"
This was the vessle that began my love for the "strange" ship designs. Hated it at first, but over time I began to love it! Only change I'd make is a secound connection beam, vertical for use as a broad side weapons platform, fighter/shuttle dock, or just for strengthenig it's connection between it's two modules.
You forgot the Nebulon B frigate that was destroyed by the Imperial 1 class Star Destroyer Devestator during the Battle of Scariff when the Rebels got they're hands on the technical schematics to the Orbital 1 or DS 1 battle station better known as the Death Star seen in Rogue One:A Star Wars Story.
I've actually made my own version of this ship as I've though of my own story version of the prequels. The ships of the new republic are mainly recycled star destroyers and other ship variants that the new republic made better ships to fill the roles of defence and offence against the last of the empire and the first order to prevent the first order gaining claim on major cyberspace routes and mid rim sectors. The ship is called the NR frigate which has a sole purpose as an anti starfighter and star fighter carrier that is deployed is fleets of two to three and sometimes accompanied with 1 NR cruiser. The ship has a similar body the the nebulon but has is now equipped with 4 winged pieces to as as caster cannon holders and three star destroyer shield generators in the middle sections to allow better protection for the mid section and the 4 hangers with one below each of the wings. Each frigate could carry 20 to 40 ships on their wings for hyper space. This helps to allow waves if ships to bombard enemy ships such as star destroyers easier. PLEASE GIVE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE IDEA AND IF YOU WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE CRUISER OR THE OTHER SHIPS.
I liked the hammer head corvettes shown in the movie rogue one... Loved the way it rammed the star destroyer... Please talk about the hammer head corvettes...
I've always love Nebulon b frigates. Especially when one has played the space Sim games Tie Fighter or X-wings and you can blow them up with proton torpedo
so much more fun shooting out both the Star Destroyer shield generators (each needed 3 torpedoes, the X-Wing carried 6 and I think the B-Wing 16), then at the end of the mission after taking out all the fighters just park your ship behind the ISD in its blind spot with the trigger stuck down and come back 10 minutes later with an ISD kill on your score board, in one campaign I killed "the same" Star Destroyer a few times in consecuative missions
@@terryforsdyke306 Star Destroyers were such pathetically easy targets in that game XD Especially B-wings could just tear them apart like it was essentially nothing. Sure it took a bit of patience, but it wasn't at all difficult. Imagine if the onscreen battles were like that. 'WTF!? That star destroyer just got taken out by a lone fighter! How is that possible!?' XD
Man, I love those games so much. It's been WAAAAY too long since there was a good sci-fi space flight sim. I will say the capital ships were always undergunned in those games - basically to make it possible to kill them. If you play at the highest difficulties, they'd still rough you up, and that's while having only like 1/10th the weapon that the "real life" versions of the ships would have had.
I remember the Neb-B outgunning an ISD in a mission in one of the space sims, not sure if it was X-Wing Alliance. That was because the Neb-B was flying a little higher than the ISD and thus allowing all the weapons on both front and rear sides to ire on the ISD.
Surely there would be bulkheads containing the inner atmosphere. Breaking the connection between the drive and main vessel would not evacuate the entire atmosphere
Another well done. Love this channel and binge episodes over and over. I'd like to request a special episode based on planet killers (vorlon-b5, star killer base, species 8472 planet killer, ect). Big fan and look forward every week to these.
You might want to check out what EC Henry did with the Nebulon-B frigate. it looks fantastic and definetly more functional than the original. He also has a couple of other videos about ships that were seen in the movies but wich were just there as "extras" and so got a bit unnoticed. Definetly worth having a look at those. Here's the link to his Nebulon-B video: th-cam.com/video/Nz13rwQpUd4/w-d-xo.html
I've been trying to find a replica or a model of the Nebulon B for a long time. They're hard to come by if you want anything other than the little Star Wars Armada ship.
A long, thin, almost fully exposed beam connecting the vital engines to the vital bridge of the ship... Who would've thought that this part of the ship would be exploited? :-/ This weakpoint basically means that flanking and targeting the Nebulon B's cylindrical connecting hull will almost guarantee a kill. The only way the Nebulon B could protect itself from that would be to face the attacking force head-on, increasing the front deflector shields and hoping that the point-defense system as well as interceptors take care of any attacking fighters and bombers.
The EF76 Nebulon-B also has Time Lord Technology as seen in The Force Unleashed II Where the Frigate Salvation had Several Hanger Bays that could launch Hundreds of Starfighters and Several Dozen Turbolaser Cannons and A Fusion Accelerator Cannon and was large enough to need a Tram to get from one end to another. And It seemed to be at least 1.1375 Miles Long making it Dwarf the standard Imperial Star Destroyer..... But its 300 Meters long... HEAD HURTS
Small note- the Redemption survived, (you can see the Rebel Fleet several times before and during the initial battle- exactly 1 Nebulon-B; and you can see its engine profile escaping with the remaining Rebel ships as the Millenium Falcon escapes, to the right and below).
The first time I saw this ship when I was a kid I was under the impression that it was an incomplete version of a larger ship that the rebels where just making do with.
Yes the Nebulon B got a video I love it.I thought of another one from star wars that has a interesting design and history to it the dreadnaught-class heavy criuser from star wars.
How about the Bengal-class Carrier from Star citizen? Or the Farragut-class frigate from Elite Dangerous Or the USS VENGENCE from Star Trek into darkness (Albeit, there isn't much more on that one, but it is still so badass)
The medical ship was destroyed at the end of Return of the Jedi? I could have sworn I saw it flying away from the station in that final seen just before it exploded.
Ahh the Nebulon-B my favorite Star Wars OT ship class. I am curious where is it stated that the Turbolasers are heavy grade? Everything I remember reading either just refers to them as Turbolaser batteries or rates them as medium class turbolaser batteries.
1:30, You'd think a military space ship would have emergency pressure bulkheads to prevent something like that happening. Heck, even a civilian space ship that large ought to be compartmentalized.
Uhh, the Redemption didn't get destroyed by the Death Star II. It was too small, that was the Mon Calmari Star Cruisers, the first one the Liberty, the second one was the Nautilian.
If anyone played the rouge squad games from the Game cube noticed that the Nebulon-B was helpless and can't even defend itself. Made me cringe a bit that its a command ship but cant even shoot. Just happy Nebulon-B actually DOES have weaponsequip on them.
Are we sure that the Redemption was destroyed by the Death Star 2 at Endor? I am pretty sure it either did not get destroyed or got taken out by a Imperial 2 star destroyer at Endor because I watched the battle at .25 speed and the death star only hit 2 MC80 class cruisers.
I have a suggestion for your next craft: the TIE bomber. you already have the TIE fighter and interceptor, so why not round out the list of the empire's most common starfighter sized ships.
Redemption survived the Battle of Endor in the movie, though. When Legends are in direct conflict with source material, I think it's safe to ignore them.
I love this ships design, always will, but I will never be able to get rid of the feeling that this ship should snap as soon as it even slightly turned. Either "reinforcing" the stem, or even just thickening it and have the design flow into the rear hub (rather than an abrupt block on a stick that it looks like) would make it so much better. Clearly designed for aesthetics and fantasy!
I wonder if the backstory as being built for the Empire will be changed for the new canon, since it sounds like it would be filling the same role as the Arquitens Light Cruisers.
"Nebulon-B Frigate here."
(I find the lack of Empire at War references in these comments disturbing.)
“Moving out” (goodness I enjoy that game so much)
Let's do some damage!(Hopeing for a sequel)

wasn't that star killer?
Yes, on the Salvation - a 'supersized' version of the frigate ( :
Kit Fisto that was a different nebulon ship.
Of course, this brings up the most important question about the Nebulon-B.
What the heck was a Nebulon-A?! ;p

I'm sure whoever came up with the designation had something like that in mind. But since you never see it in the material they put out it's one of those silly things.

Better question. Why is their a D? Galactic basic doesn't have ABCD or any of that.
Well, The Last Jedi has a Nebulon-C, and other books mention a later Nebulon-K.
Likely a previous revision of the same design...

Looks like we'll be seeing these again soon in Rebels Season 3, along with MC80's and Dornean Gunships. Pretty stoked for that. :)
Spacedock MC80 are one of my favorite Ships :3
Spacedock could u do a video on the rogue shadow?
Spacedock God I love the Dornean Gunships. So glad that they're back again.

PLEASE do more of The Expanse! I just started watching it on demand and it quite easily my favorite show ever.
This. More actual science-fiction ships. Star Wars is good space-fantasy, but it's still fantasy.
Unfortunately my feelings of this craft were tainted by- *THIS IS THE REDEMPTION WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!*
Screw you Redemtion you have exelent AA guns, now shut up i'm busy with that bloody ISD!
To add insult to injury it apparently gets blown up by the second death star even after you worked so hard to protect it.

how did the rebles get there hands on these ships? its like Somali pirates getting there hands on a US cruiser
Defectors and sympathizers for some, raids for others. Often they were temporarily disabled in combat and captured by Rebel forces
imagine Somali pirates with the backing of Illuminati, in a Nazi occupied Earth. Multiply that into the Galaxy, and you have Star Wars' GCW era/

Ahh the Nebulon-B my favorite Star Wars OT ship class. I am curious where is it stated that the Turbolasers are heavy grade? Everything I remember reading either just refers to them as Turbolaser batteries or rates them as medium class turbolaser batteries.
Have we done the Acclamator Cruisers yet? Those are my favourite craft during the Clone Wars. We got to see the insides of one in Republic Commando!
Love your channel! You present a much better informative presentation and audio for your videos than Eckhartsladder!
Great video! I love your coverage of star wars ships!
1:30, You'd think a military space ship would have emergency pressure bulkheads to prevent something like that happening.
Heck, even a civilian space ship that large ought to be compartmentalized.
my favorite Star Wars ship by FAR
Uhh, the Redemption didn't get destroyed by the Death Star II. It was too small, that was the Mon Calmari Star Cruisers, the first one the Liberty, the second one was the Nautilian.
Moar Star Wars please! They're the best
Can you do a video about the corellian corvette?
Really nice channel to watch 😊 keep up the good work!
How about the Pelta class Frigate from the Clone Wars?
The Nebulon is just as famous as the Star Destroyer.
Can we get more information on the Visacount mon-cal ships
If anyone played the rouge squad games from the Game cube noticed that the Nebulon-B was helpless and can't even defend itself. Made me cringe a bit that its a command ship but cant even shoot.
Just happy Nebulon-B actually DOES have weaponsequip on them.
Video request: _Arcadia_-class gunship, *Destiny*. Failing enough information on that, perhaps the _Marathon_-class colony ship, *Marathon*.
Possibly other frigates did. The only source for this is Tales of the Bounty Hunters book.
Other than the B-Wing Fighter this is my favorite Star Wars ship.
Ok i´ll start Empire at War now and Smite those pesky rebel Nebulon-B´s with my mighty Stardestroyers.
HAIL THE EMPIRE.
can you do a video on the Dornean Gunships
wasn't aware they were designed for the imperial navy. that's pretty neat
E wing, Star Destroyer ISD II, and the V wing and Arc 170! Those would be awesome!
From what I know and researched the "Redemption" was NOT destroyed at the Battle of Endor.
I loved seeing this again in rogue one lol
I have a suggestion for your next craft: the TIE bomber. you already have the TIE fighter and interceptor, so why not round out the list of the empire's most common starfighter sized ships.
Awesome! Neb B baby!
Redemption survived the Battle of Endor in the movie, though. When Legends are in direct conflict with source material, I think it's safe to ignore them.
5 more vessels from "Star Wars: the Old Republic" (All Players' Vessels) & Each & Every Legends/non-Canon Ship from "Star Wars: Galaxies".
"Nebulon-B frigate here..."
Wait, why was there a gravity gun (I think that’s what it was?) in the background at 0:50?
I love this ships design, always will, but I will never be able to get rid of the feeling that this ship should snap as soon as it even slightly turned. Either "reinforcing" the stem, or even just thickening it and have the design flow into the rear hub (rather than an abrupt block on a stick that it looks like) would make it so much better.
Clearly designed for aesthetics and fantasy!
soooo good! more more more!
The nebulous is one of my favorite ships ever in star wars
I don't think splitting the ship at the spine should vent it. ´There would be clearly hatches and bulkheads on each side of the spine to prevent that.
Interesting video. I didn't see a video for the Gunstar from the Last StarFighter
It really needed other ships to cover it long weak spot
I learned a lot in this one thanks, like I thought it was mostly actually meant as a hospital ship, LOL.
Kuat an industrial shipyard panet located on the core worlds. And its secretly building ships for the Rebel Alliance..
I'd love to see your take on Thunderbird 3, (the Thunderbirds are Go version).
You should do an episode about the Lucrehulk class battleship of the CIS from Star Wars
hey spacedock would love to see one on the rebel transport
I would love to to see a video on the SDF 1 Macross from do you remember love . Keep up the good work
I'd like to request the "juggernaut-type" engineer ship from the Alien franchise. Love your channel!
I wonder if the backstory as being built for the Empire will be changed for the new canon, since it sounds like it would be filling the same role as the Arquitens Light Cruisers.
would love to see the scythe class (MC140) or the Nebulon star destroyer
