I saw Sideshow' first look too; I think it was because of the lighting that You didn't see much purple hue in their video, because in other unboxings You definitely see that the colour IS there. Also, in my recollection, the colour on the suit is not consistent throughout the first movie; in some scenes it has much more of that purple/blue hue than in other scenes. I am still questioning whether to buy this version, as I am actually very content with Hot Toys' previous version with chair. Just for a colour upgrade? I don't know.
I have the hot toys Robocop 1 version, I miss the blue purple sheen on his armour, but it’s a very good figure anyway. I painted Robocop on my channel, great film.

I have been a custom motorcycle and automotive painter for years and the Robocop paintjob is one of the most specific paintjobs around for a figure. It is a silver base, with translucent candy highlights of green, blue and purple followed by a gloss coat. If you are talking Robocop 1, hot toys didnt even get that right on the first diecast release. They were closer with the original big headed one and the jetpack/gunarm one had a beautiful blue paintjob. This new one went too light on the highlights and not heavy enough on the blue. I am sure in a dark environment or blue/grayish lighting it will look great but it is in no way accurate to Robocop 3. I am always searching for perfection in Robocop figures, Mafex has been the closest to me, Hot Toys just refuses to absolutely nail it home.
@@ughcoty Not difficult, but very specific about highlight placement. Also getting the right kind of iridescent highlight is important, candy colors show base colors through them, its not just opaque colors being sprayed. You can achieve the finish many ways but a true color shifting paint is difficult without the right knowledge and materials.
This is something I absolutely want to pick your brain about on a stream is how you stay focused with SW only and what figures if any would have you expand out of SW. I agree Robocop 1 is classic. For me in 1993 I was 6 and saw Robo 3 for the first time and oh man it was fun, now its silly haha
People pay for a figure based on the product shown, so when the piece is released and it doesnt look like the first, people get pissed. This isnt a $35 figure, its hundreds of dollars. Im sorry but you guys need to stop making people feel like theyre getting upset for no reason.
I’m invested also I day 1 preordered this and I can see watching the video it looks better and more accurate then the original proto which is just my opinion. I can’t personally comment on what others are saying as I don’t watch many other channels myself. I do think those who purchased absolutely have the right to voice concerns on the final product but that bring said are they going to cancel it? This is definitely going to be a subjective where in hand comparisons are going to better like what I agreed to do when I get mine. Much appreciate the feedback 🤙🫡
You can see that the release video BLASTED lights onto this figure. You can see it's reflecting on the metal color scheme. Lowkey purple comes out more on the lower light side as the prototype shown. Honestly, I preordered day 1 because my father bought me ancient version when I was a kid. We won't know until we get the item. I am really excited for this figure.
Sideshow first looks definitely aren’t the best with the crazy all white and lighting for sure. That’s being said I can see this looks good from what I can tell. As you said this going to be one where in hand is the true test.
Yes, it will have some nice blue and purple highlights, but the base is still silver. It is not a blue from Robocop 3. Its the same reason it has Wellers mouth and not Robert Blake, it's a rerelease disguised as Robocop 3. Not disappointing because it's an awesome figure but would have like a perfect paintjob because the last one was far from accurate.
@@hiddeninthebrush Its deff a figure that can work as a Robo 1 or 3 in my opinion. They 100% looked to have used the OG diecast as a base and updated the paint apps. This is one I will be looking forward to comparing in person.
As much as I love my HT RoboCop with the mechanical chair, the paint job wasn't nearly close to being screen-accurate. I'm unwilling to spend several hundred dollars on a custom paint job and was hoping this would be closer to the mark. Well, it doesn't look like it is but we won't know for sure until we start seeing comparisons in like lighting. Just like the last RoboCop coinciding with the 2014 reboot, this may be releasing now because of the videogame. Whatever the case may be, we may not be getting another RoboCop from HT for a long time - if ever - and now's the time to act if you really want one, they always shoot up in price once they're sold out. Looking forward to your review!
Thanks so much for the reply! I do agree at the end of the day this is going have mixed reviews until in hand comparisons are made with proper lighting and quality camera recording. I will be doing my best to do a good comparison that's fair and honest about this and the OG diecast version.

It's kind of a similar story with their Iron Man mark 3. The first release was the most accurate. They never got it right after that.
I've been painting models for years there's nothing difficult about this paint job.

Not often I’m tempted to branch my hot toys collecting out from Star Wars but I love Robocop (first movie mainly) so very tempted for this one.

Honestly I’m fine with the color. I’m glad they toned the blue down anyway as I missed out in the first release.
