    Rob couldn’t agree more. Deadfall can get a result for sure. If I set any type of snare I stay close by to quickly dispatch. I have seen many time chew throughs and twist offs all the time. Airplane wire and good old Leg holds...solid.

    Nice vid, but you need to show a closeup of how you actually set the toggle and trigger. The first example was just out of frame, and a bit too far away. Looks very effective, though!!

    It looks like you are using the toggle, or trigger between the earth and the arch. Did you say flatten a spot on the arch and carve a point for the trigger so as to relieve as much friction as possible? A hair trigger in other words? I like it and Ithink I get it, but couldn't see exactly what you were doing.

    Good stuff. What would you use for bait if you didn't have any? What in your surroundings would be the best to use, I mean. Thanks.

    • @DonnyDustsPaleoTracks
      @DonnyDustsPaleoTracks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Damien Deadson great question. When it comes to trapping you have to study and know the game you are attempting to catch. Know what they eat, when they eat and how often. If the trap is designed to ensnare the animal then the trap might not have bait. The trap might be designed to ensnare the animal as it passes through a game trail. Fish heads, nuts, roots, berries and insects typically work well.

    • @donrussell8889
      @donrussell8889 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      this stuff doesn't work worth a hoot, dude. If you're serious, you carry some conibear steel traps, a silenced .22lr autorifle, some trotlines and a gillnet, and be ready to eat a lot of cattails and cambium.

    • @JusBidniss
      @JusBidniss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why not a 4WD towing a hot dog cart while you're at it? Primitive is serious, too, because if you're caught out without all that equipment and don't know primitive skills like this 'meal getter', then you're seriously screwed.

    Great vid brother, everyone is confused about the trigger mechanism because of all the debris in the actual chosen set point, and it makes it a bit difficult to understand. Perhaps you could show one with a white background like a sheet at home or if home is the cave (how cool would that be?), maybe film the parts against the boulder wall ? I read a few books a long time ago that i still have but unsure where..? The author of the book was Tom Brown, and he taught nife fighting to special forces, as well as survival and was a wonderful teacher. You are the only person who has actually instructed how to lower to level to track, no matters man or beast they leave tracks. He also taught of a technic he called spatter vision I believe he called it, and it's very difficult to explain but when you are walking through the woods and hoping to find a trail, you could pull back your vision so you aren't looking at a particular thing but open your eyes to see the world around you without targeting on spot. Sorry I cannot do it justice, but you would be amazed by what you can see ! I've seen five trails with a shared intersection when before I couldn't see anything. Now this is a skill set I know and has helped me many times and I'm guessing you know it too and probably call it something else, and perhaps can do it better justice than I. Think you so much for this video ! Although I kinda knew that way of searching for a trail, you are the first one to put it down to "as simple as that" kinda way, and I wonder why no one else covers this? We are all here to learn from each other I believe, but I wish more people would see things the way you do, and quit the posturing. Don't hold back anything. This one thing, if they will apply what these learned here a few times, they will be amazed at how easy it is to locate a trail and how they can routinely find them anywhere. All I could add is, get a book on tracking, to show you what you are following , how old is the track, or scat, even the sex, injuries they may already dealing with, but you must commit. Not every day, but learn one day a week where you go out for four hours to a park, or nearby woods etc.then more often when you can. I thank you brother. For keeping it real, honest, and truly understanding the meaning of giving.

    • @joesquid6988
      @joesquid6988 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ... worked it out.
      Press that U shape into the ground on both ends .. now you have an arch.
      The line from the spring branch has a short stick on it, that stick has a slight flat on one end.
      Pull the line down, and through the arch (the tension on the branch wants to pull it up)
      The other longer stick (with a point on it, just stands on the ground pointed up. The flat of the short stick rests on the point of this standing stick, stopping it from pulling through the arch and up (THAT is your trigger.)
      Now arrange your snare loop around the arch.
      Anything that puts it's head through that loop, to get at the bait on the upright stick, will jiggle that stick, allowing the short one on the spring branch to pull off of the point, and jerk upward.
      The snare loop will cinch.
