Glad you did an update on that, great trigger with minimal requirements. When I was trapping as a kid I found a useful workaround for the spring pole limitations. Instead of a spring pole I threw the snare line over a high branch and hoisted up a large rock, the rock is then the motor for lifting the snare. If done right the subject is lifted well off the ground and away from other predators. Just make sure to minimize friction where the line goes over the branch. The only time it went wrong on me was when instead of a rabbit I found a Mountain Lion caught in my trap with one foot in the air, lucky for me he was busy chewing his was out as I made my escape.
Whoa! Great story, brother. What's that old joke... What's the problem with having a live cougar in your trap? Answer: You have a live cougar in your trap Using a large rock as the engine is a great idea. With the anchor problem solved, one is only limited by the imagination and ability to crank down the engine into it's locked position. With enough ingenuity this can be modified to lift a person off the ground
Subscribing to you right now. I am down in Barbados right now getting ready to snare some mongoose. They are eating all the chicken eggs here. I'm going to give this a try. Thanks so much to the tutorial! Much love from the islands 👍
Very slick set. I’ve been trying to modify the version demonstrated in “the trappers bible” by Eustace. I want to trap wolves with this but need a better anchor. Thinking about anchoring the snare directly to the tree and having the spring pole line connected to the snare with a metal sliding loop. See any holes in my design?
The way I'm envisioning what you're saying is the spring snare will set the cable snare, by pulling on the running end of the snare that's attached to the tree. That sounds like it would work great to set the cable snare. Try it out and let us know how well it worked. Thanks
cant pull to hard on the spring pull. Better to use a weight and pully system. tie the other end of your anchor string up over a branch and to a weight heavy enough to easily pull the target up off the ground. Spring poles are too unreliable.
Both terms are correct. There's enough online information to corroborate the term "overhand loop." Overhand on a bite appears to be more of a climbers term. I'm guessing that is your discipline.
I no longer have the Diving Sparrow Kephart. This one is a Bark River Kephart. At this point in my life, I only own two knives, the red Mora I've rolled with for over 20 years (it was the one in the llbean backpack video) and this Bark River Kephart. Truth be told, this was the first time I ever put the BR Kephart to any meaningful use. It has been a drawer queen for a long time. I bought it more as a legacy knife than a user, which is why I opted not to get it in Scandi. However, it is stainless... Somethings I'm not willing to compromise on, haha.

That's one of the most ingenious traps I've come across in awhile.
Really cool👍👍

Awesome
nice!
Great tutorial, subbed 👍🔥👍
Your spring line pole needs to be a hardwood sapling so it will keep its spring.
What kind of knife is that you are using!
Thanks.
Bark River Kephart. I'm not sure if it's still in production

Why not 3 loops? 1 on all sides? 🤔
I think you mean the ground not the floor very rarely are you going to be setting a snare inside of a building

FYI, It’s an ‘Overhand on a bight’, not an overhand loop.

Meant to ask, is that your Diving Sparrow Kephart?

People who call the ground the floor
yeah bugs the crap out of me too when I mix it up.
If you use it for fishing put bait in a piece of plastic so the fish can't take your bait
My god, man, learn a bowline 😁
