We're never called anyone a "moron". Are you sure that you are thinking of the right channel and/or the correct commentator. We'll have a bit of fun every-so-often (see comment below) but we never call people names. That's just not our thing.
i've taken the Tiguan more off road than that, it will do more, you need winter tires on it, it can do snowy roads like a champ, gravel all that no problem
Paid 30,198 for my awd Tiguan Wolfsburg edition in Canada. The wrangler rubicon starts at 47,345... not a lot of cross shopping to bother with there. 50,000 km on the clock and not a single issue so far. Fantastic vehicle in the winter as well
Thanks for the thoughtful comments. We really love cars and we hope that our automotive passion shows when we do these mashups. It is strange how some people get offended as if somehow comparing two different (but somewhat similar cars) is almost sacrilegious. We're all about making entertaining, informative and fun videos yet comparing these two cars to some people is a travesty.
You are absolutely correct! I'm crazy proud of our team, our channel, our videos and especially of our community of subscribers. We get 1.7 million views per month because we produce excellent, insightful, entertaining and especially fair video reviews. Please, please be so kind as to make your own video review of your own car and be sure to send us the link...after all like you said...it isn't exactly rocket science.
@rkhrahmani Thanks for your thoughtful comments, but there's really no replacing a manual gearbox off-road. The Tiguan's gearbox, for instance, won't hold a gear but will upshift automatically when the revs get too high. In the dirt I want complete control of my gears.
Congrats, you win the TFLcar comment troll of the week award. It's not easy to be so negative in so few words. Please note that for your accomplishment we'll be adding you and your comment to our Troll Hall of Fame.
I'm not very impressed by the two guys in this video. They don't seem like they know much about the vehicles. Plus, please stop referring to them as cars.
Thanx for the review, I always watch them ,as lot of people look down on your reviews I like them. You guys always pick interesting cars for head to head battles, cars that lot of other automotive journalist don’t dare to compare. Well my hats off to you guys, and for people who don’t like this reviews simply don’t watch them
@76carmel Absolutely. This Pentastar V6 is an outstanding engine with 260 lbs of torque. It makes 83 more horsepower than the old one. It’s lighter and it gets better gas mileage. For a vehicle you can buy right off the showroom floor - I have never tested a better off-roader. Great question. Thanks for watching!
Love your guys reviews, to the point and not going into unimportant details just what makes each vehicle unique. Looking forward to more Wrangler mashups, especially Land Rover.
People wonder why I love my TJ. 4.88 gears on the stock I6 with 35s and the 5 speed has me getting to 60 in about 8 seconds (Not bad considering the fact it only makes 195 hp/225 lbft) and I can still shred any trail thrown my way. Also, this guy is the single most details spotter I've ever heard. Live updates every 2 inches lol, kudos good sir, kudos.
Roman, thank you for all of your hard work around bring these videos into our homes! You are just the right amount of cool and easy with a hint of professional in the mix! Now your partner, I see him as a very nice regular guy and that comes through load and clear...so it would seem that you have pretty much covered the American viewing base, good job!
I enjoyed this video. I went from a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Sport Willys Wheeler to a 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser to getting a 2015 VW Tiguan 2.0 TSI 4Motion yesterday. So, excited to go gold / mineral collecting in it at my ranch. Love the much lower monthly payments. I just know I am much more limited on ground clearance now but man o man what a hugh increase on highway comfort and MPG and decrease in highway noise and insurance costs.
I enjoyed this! Had a VW a while back, the engines are put together beautifully. Now I have a '12 Rubicon Unlimited, and consider it the life-long mate I have been looking for. Props to the reviewers for actually taking both of-road, as sometimes Jeeps are bought and live a miserable existance never being taken off-road, or over 60 mph, for that matter. Oh, and seeing the VW trail-ride a little...well, that just made me smile! Thanks!
Ah yes, somebody finally saw through our cunning plan to create a biased review. We spent months studying and editing every frame of this video to make it look like the Jeep is more off-road worthy vehicle. We even picked the music that would make the VW "feel" and drive bad. You are truly a brilliant viewer to see through our ruse.
I actually have a 2010 Tiguan I got new a year and half ago...Wanted a jeep but was living in Philly and didn't want to deal with it getting broken into. Now I live in NJ, near the pine barrens, and want a wrangler. I'm really close to deciding to take a small hit on the tig to get in a wrangler now instead of waiting. This video was extremely useful for me, so thanks.
I was suprised you guys didn't mention the stock lockers and heavier axles which are the two most important characteristics of the rubi, but you did mention them somewhat later. Overall a very entertaining and fun mashup, I enjoyed it. As its worth it to mention that for a few thousand more your performance of that Wrangler can be doubled, where as there isn't much aftermarket offroad support for the Tiguan.
I enjoyed that. I know these mash-ups are often of "almost non-comparable cars" (which I love), but it would be great if you ended the segment with which one of the two you would rather have (or buy) and why.
As much as people bash this review, it makes sense. Like it was stated, they're both kind of similar and close in price. Someone who may only use their vehicle for having 2 total passengers (including the driver) and want some on road and some off-road driving may have a hard time choosing between the two. It really comes down to which one suits your driving and lifestyle more.
TFL is a TFC (Troll Free Channel) Please note that our community has ZERO interested in mean-spirited name calling or comments. You have been warned. Next time you will be banned!
@pbrinzei That's funny because the Jeep was around and driving off-road way before the Paris Dakar, the Pajero, the Land Rover and of course the G Class...making it the oldest and many would say the best off-road brand/car in the world.
@fanfinmiami Yes, those big BFGs are a bit blocky for some people. The 4-door Unlimited would help some of the instability at highway speeds and smooth out the ride. The Sahara Unlimited comes with 18-inch wheels and more street friendly tires. Also, the suspension and underside are not as beefy as the Rubicon, so it stands to reason that the overall street feel will be a bit better on the Sahara. Thanks for watching!
I liked that. I could totally see people cross shop those cars. They may end up buying one over the other for the exact reasons you gave in the end, but I can still see people considering both.
These are two totally different beasts and I doubt anyone needed a contrast of a mountain climber vs a countryside long-distance tourer. I've owned a 98' straight-6 Jeep Cherokee for 11 years (7 in Alaska) and now a Tiguan in Oregon. For deep snow and tough off road, I'll take the Jeep. For commuting, long trips, and light duty off road use, give me the Tig any day over the jeep. I drove the Jeep from AK to New Mexico and if I could do it over, I would do it in the TIG WITHOUT question.
Could you please do a Land Rover Defender vs Jeep Wrangler vide, and compare those two by telling the angles, ground clearence etc. And put the offroad! I really loved this video, keep up the good work!
@76carmel You’re absolutely right about the RDX vs. the Tiguan - but, on occasion, we like to tackle both ends of the spectrum. In this case: Roman’s Tiguan which stickered at $33,300 was very close in price to my Wrangler. So, we were curious as to how much car can you get for the cash. We will do some soft-roader/crossover comparisons in the future too. Thanks for watching!
Karly, We've had enough of this silliness. It is one thing to criticize us, but there's no need to be nasty to our viewers. You are blocked. Please note that we have zero interest in your opinion or your car.
OK Mr Science, why don't you get yourself a new Jeep and Tiguan, Cameras, Tripods, Computers, Final Cut and learn to edit, Hero Cams, off-road test course, Masters Degree in Journalism and of course a youtube channel with tens of thousands of subscribers and 50K views each day. Now make your own "accurate" review and please send us the link to the video when you're done. We can't wait to see "one of the best on TH-cam." We're waiting.....
@mb013962 Roman and I love the Toyota FJ. Not only does it do extremely well off road, it’s a kick to live with and has a ton of personality. There are two things that hold it back when the going gets very rough: it’s terribly difficult to see out of and the FJ’s independent front suspension will not articulate like the Jeep’s solid axle. I’m not a fan of the overbearing traction control either. Still, as a Jeep Wrangler alternative, the Toyota FJ is a great bet. Thanks for watching!
@sarokas12 It’s much better on the road than last year’s Rubicon. That has to do with the smoother engine, quitter interior and improved outward view (slightly larger rear and quarter glass). For day to day driving and commuting, I would recommend the 4-door Wrangler as it rides better and has useable backseat/cargo space. For off-road domination… this is the best available. Thanks for watching!
Why take the Tiguan to an off road location to prove it can match the wrangler, then not do anything with it except drive over a bump? You showed no limitations of the Tiguan at all apart from some axle articulation. A bit of a pointless video as none of the things you set out to show us happened at all which is a shame as it started well.
skating: quiet, outdoors, fresh air, full body exercise, low cost, social, virtually low carbon footprint, lets you live longer, better quality life, family friendly vs off roading: spine jarring, smash around in nature, environmental damage, strap kids in friendly?? hugely expensive (how many offroaders college fund for their kids exceed debt for off road vehicles), major carbon footprint for activity and repairs, spouse/family friendly? free world I guess - you pick which sounds 'pathetic'
since your in Colorado you should reference the trails your on from traildamage . com, other than that the few video I've seen seem decent so keep up the good work
you should have tried how far it could've gone. now we don't know. i'm interested in the tiguan and the jeep cheroqee but want to know what they can do without loosing to much comfort
I watch TFLCar for the OPINION. It's meritorious, original and well-produced. Trust factor is very, very high. Nathan's butt isn't gett'in any smaller and his shirts ROCK! (I bought a Yugo shirt). How someone could get butt-hurt over a VW/Jeep comparison is beyond me? I've driven both, and I much rather have a locker-equipped Jeep...especially if u delve into the VW's long-term reliability. And oh, try getting service in Montana/Idaho etc...where they only speak Am'ur'i'can.
As told by the presenters, for the Autobahn, take the Tiguan, and for off roads take the Rubicon. Two weeks ago, I got to test drive the diesel version of the Rubicon along a trail here in the Philippines and its a vehicle that will inspire off road confidence. Its on road manners aren't too bad. I prefer the Rubicon.
There is no doubt that Jeep is a better off-roader. But, something that surprised me was the statement made by Roman that his choice to go off-road with Tiguan was using the sport mode. I believe he knows that the DSG gear box can be handled manually very well, since it is in fact a manual gear box...look at the + - sings on the right side of the letter "D".
The difference is the amount of power an engine can output at sea level vs a mile above sea level. At that altitude the air is thinner. Thinner air means the engine is taking in less air per second. Therefore less air it can use for combustion per second. Although there is a difference, I am sure it accounts for the two second difference.
these jeeps are pretty cool.i was looking at them today, neat things.i like the detachable roof. If all goes well,i plan on buying a two door six speed.
Actually it does. I'm a quality engineer. When you recall a vehicle it's becauses something is wrong with it. Mistake is a broad term. When recalls are done it's to fix something specific. And some manufacturers do silent recalls. They fix a problem without making it public during regular maintenance checks. It's a way of dealing with the issue without generating negative press. My GF's Nissan Xterra actually snapped the cam in two. Never even heard of that in.......well, ever.
Look people..... It's called a mashup for a reason. Roman and Nathan have said in other videos that they compare some cars that are COMPLETELY different from each other, which is called a mashup, so get over it.
First off Jasshands....333,000 people disagree with you so shut up and stop telling other people how to do what they love you jackwad. Now...I've been watching you guys for about a year. I've seen probably 1,000 of your videos(do 1,000 even exist?). You guys are great. And YES...people are comparing these two vehicles. Take me for example. I do more research when it comes to making a big purchase, than anyone I know. And I think out of the box. So as I look for my next car my criteria are, AWD, massive sunroof(if it's an suv), under $25kif new or under $20k if used, a little grunt, and either offroad capability or built for speed. Yes...so my spectrum goes from a G35, Jeep Renegade, BMW X3 35i, Audi A3(wagon) to a VW Tiguan. So please, keep making these "absurd" video's to piss the dumbies off. Because believe it or not, someone out there is comparing these odd pairings.
Good reviews with interesting SUVs. I like that in the last few vids it seems like Roman and Nathan are actually friends. Just 2 guys talking and having fun with cars, not the "Roman show" where Nathan is just there for comedic "can he fit" effect. You guys might actually be gelling into the best youtube auto reviewer show. (Well second best. EVO youtube channel reviews Pagani Zondas'. No one can compete with that :) :) )
Useless comparison. And would you please stop using horsepower as a benchmark when talking about Off-Road worth. Torque, its peak and what rpm it hits that number.
The Tiguan is marketed toward those who use it as a grocery-getter and to take the kids to school and soccer practice. The Wrangler 4-door is marketed toward those who use it as a grocery-getter and to take the kids to school and soccer practice. Seeing either of these vehicles off-road on a terrain besides the grass of your front lawn is a nice change of pace. Solution to this? Swap a VW TDI motor into a TJ Wrangler!!
They do come with an automatic but you must request a Jeep be built with one at your local Dealership. I'm pretty sure all Jeep Wrangler's come standard with manual shift.
I've had a the same Jeep without the Rubicon package as a rental. I was the first to drive it new and already the steering was off center. On a new car! I may be biased because I own the Tiguan, but the interior quality of the Jeep is just so bad compared to the tiguan. The leather on the VW is more soft, the VW's interior has higher quality plastic and real aluminum trim throughout the cabin and the VW has stellar crash test ratings compared to the Jeep's negligible performance in crash tests.
If you use the same tool and conditions for a test, the conclusion is correct. 7.1 and 8.09 might not be accurate times, but the fact remains that the Jeep is faster in a sprint.
We're never called anyone a "moron". Are you sure that you are thinking of the right channel and/or the correct commentator. We'll have a bit of fun every-so-often (see comment below) but we never call people names. That's just not our thing.
Jeeps are certainly off road a lot - in the repair store
you guys should have actually shown the tiguan in action...
i've taken the Tiguan more off road than that, it will do more, you need winter tires on it, it can do snowy roads like a champ, gravel all that no problem

Tiguan is far more capable than these wankers report. The Build quality is 2nd to none and a diesel with a DSG transmission is a dream to drive.
OzClawhammer Not too good for the planet though eh?
@@kilovwdude6457 wut? LOL

Unfair comparison for both cars; completely different cars
I agree
that's why its a Mash up and not a Match up
@Fabian Franco that’s kind of the point of mash up match up
Enthusiastic without being annoying. That's hard to pull off and you guys did that. That was very enjoyable.
As usual, a lot of laughs guys! Great video! Keep up the good work! Love the color of the Rubicon by the way!
I was suprised you guys didn't mention the stock lockers and heavier axles which are the two most important characteristics of the rubi, but you did mention them somewhat later. roman. dont listen to them, ur mashups are incredibly good, plz still make mashups
Great video. Comparing these two vehicles brings out a lot of good points about each.
I liked that. I could totally see people cross shop those cars. They may end up buying one over the other for the exact reasons you gave in the end, but I can still see people considering both.

the tiguan is pretty quick
got some serious balls
Great vid as always! Keep on the great job!
@spawnbo We take it you don't understand the meaning of the word mashup.
Lol so true
Loved the video. It was exactly what I was looking for.

@romanmicagearguy ive seen that one, the one in texas where you tested all nissan trucks right?
@76carmel You’re absolutely right about the RDX vs. the Tiguan - but, on occasion, we like to tackle both ends of the spectrum.

Her Roman, or anybody that knows. What app do you use for the 0-60 tests?
Nathan, does the Pentastar make this Wrangler better? I heard this makes it the best Jeep Wrangler ever.
That's why we call it a mashup.
skating: quiet, outdoors, fresh air, full body exercise, low cost, social, virtually low carbon footprint, lets you live longer, better quality life, family friendly

free world I guess - you pick which sounds 'pathetic'
way to go you guys.. but why dont you make a review video about the FJ Cruiser?
Stupid comment. You may want to look up the definition of Mashup.
since your in Colorado you should reference the trails your on from traildamage . com, other than that the few video I've seen seem decent so keep up the good work
With the Jeep, you're not just buying a Jeep, you're buying history and are part of a family. I wave. ;-)
It's like saying you bought a fridge because, history
you should have tried how far it could've gone. now we don't know. i'm interested in the tiguan and the jeep cheroqee but want to know what they can do without loosing to much comfort

I know you don't make them anymore, but can you mashup an Excursion and a 3 door Yaris? I bet you could come up with some funky ideas.
these jeeps are pretty cool.i was looking at them today, neat things.i like the detachable roof.
If all goes well,i plan on buying a two door six speed.
Just wanted to say dont let these negative comments get to you. If you enjoy doing videos keep it up i will watch =D

Tiguan, combination of classy, sporty, luxury, original exterior just beautiful car.
Nathan : "... barely room for my axe"
Gimli : "And MY axe!"
some reviewers just seem to get so much flak for anything they do, and personally I don't see why. Always have liked your reviews, keep 'em coming.
Nice show brother ! VW Tiguan good car ! Awesome inginery and full power and comfort :) I love that car ,especially the model with the 4 motion
Look people..... It's called a mashup for a reason. Roman and Nathan have said in other videos that they compare some cars that are COMPLETELY different from each other, which is called a mashup, so get over it.
This is even a stock JEEP. A Rubicon equip with 4WD suspension and other after market. For sure its an absolute beast.
fun review! thanks for making this video!
Thanks guys. This video was really enjoyable... And funny too.
Nice video guys, in you next video you should compare ford mustang with dodge ram
Anyway, I do really enjoy this movie. you guys did have fun. Thanks
Nice review !!
We're still waiting..............
that was great, thank for the episode!
I think a mazda miata vs jeep wrangler would have been a more fair comparison.
Joking, of course.
Is the Wrangler any good on road?
I wonder what's the fuel consumption on the wrangler...
why would you disconnect the sway bar?
Do you think a Tacoma can go up there also?
My thoughts exactly. Would idle up/over everything as opposed to having to skinny pedal it a bit.
Do have any vids of the nissan murrano crosstour cabriolet on this offroad test ??
Never seen an MG shirt... I love the Jeep, unbeatable at their thing!!
Roman, I love you. You're a great guy. You really are.
