Actually, when they walk past the screen, Uhura hears Edison on the monitor say "push back the frontier" which is the same thing Krall said to her earlier in the movie and given that she's an expert in linguistics, she realises the voices sound similar and then goes to check.
Uhura has an aural sensitivity in linguistics and phonology. She kept rewinding the the footage listening to the word "FRONTIER". She was listening to his vocal pattern not looking at his face. Krall had said the word "frontier" to her before. After she spent a considerable amount of time with him than everyone else she could distinguish his voice by ear.

I just saw the movie last night. How she identified the villian...considering what her job on the ship is and practically anyone would know that she didn't identify him based on his looks.
It's the only thing about this HISE I have a problem with. Rest is golden.

Sure she can attend but after that by graduating or probably end up dropped out somehow, she can go wherever she likes now that she has the skills and experience.
@@rexlumontad5644 She doesn't need to join starfleet to live in the federation. It's not a fascist regime where everyone has to enlist. (On a related note: it doesn't make sense that everyone will eventually become a captain. E.g. why should Geordie become a captain? He's an engineer. He might design new starships or teach at an university, do R&D in the future, but why would he become a captain?)
I like the entire ending cause I was thinking of that too, the fact they could jettison him into space too, lol all they had to do was let him get in there and do that. But of course you need tension.
I did like that Uhura picked up on his voice though, that was just really good attention to detail for her characters specific skill set.

Exactly. I watched the movie three times, and I love the scene where she picks up on Krall's voice and Edison's voice being the same. It was subtle; maybe a little...*too* subtle. And now I'm worried CinemaSins is gonna give that scene like 10 sins just because he doesn't get it, either.

Cheshire Pssh. Anyone who watches his videos knows he gives sins because he just didn't "get" something. He's done it in plenty of videos, not just DC or Marvel movies. Check the comments of literally any of his videos, you'll find someone "explaining" a plot point to him that he either missed or intentionally ignored so he could up the total.
people forget that uhura is a linguistics and voice recognition expert .She has the ability to identify individual species and persons based on voice patterns and pitch.
I was wondering what happened to Carol throughout the movie. I liked her in Into Darkness
she knew it was krall from the voice... not the look.
She is a powerful linguist.
I thought it was because she saw him change, and he changed into something that resembled his original appearance.
Uhura recognized the voice when she walked by the monitor. That coupled with knowing that Krall changes his appearance cemented exactly who it was.
Her skills as a linguist and communications expert have been underscored throughout the Kelvinverse.

Yeah, it was a hell of a coincidence, but recognizing his (somehow relatively unchanged) voice makes more sense than recognizing his face.
his face already changed back to being more human as he sucked the lifeforce (or whatever that was) out of some Starfleet Officers as, Uhura was watching... Kirk didn't see that.
Also he said "push the frontier" and Krull said "this is where the frontier pushes back"... so it is not just the voice, but the voice, what he said AND his face.
Its a dumb plot device that the screen was still playing that video in a loop (but whatever)...
Seriously though... THIS is what HISHE chose to complain about? ...like, for example, WHY did those tiny drone Ships not simply explode when impacting the SHIELDS of the Enterprise? oh right... they don't actually have energy shields in the JJ Reboots, they just keep saying "shields up" because it sounds familiar, those ships do not actually have Shields. 3 Movies, never seen a shield.
She is the "communications expert" on the ship. It literally is her job to hear aliens speak and translate new languages. She not only "heard his voice" but, with her familiarity of her occupation, heard the phrase "push the frontier", which Krall obsessed over earlier in the movie with her.
HISHE really dropped the ball on this point. :/
When they're being attacked one of the bridge crewmen, I think it may have been Chekov, says that the shields have no effect at defending against the drones. But yeah, I've missed seeing the shields.

I really liked the idea how Krall turned visually alike the last forms of life he was consuming. At the beginning of the movie he looked like the aliens from the last starcraft that had landed on his planet and then he started looking human again as many of the enterprise crew were humans. You are what you eat :)

Of the movies I saw in theater this summer...this was the best.
Third best for me. Behind Finding Dory and Captain America: Civil War. Honestly, outside of those three, The BFG, and maybe Sausage Party, I didn't enjoy any summer films this year. This was a bad year for movies in general.
Andrew Heaney Yeah. I thought Finding Dory and Civil War were good, but neither evoked the same kind of emotional reactions out of me as Beyond.
Patrick Murphy That's totally understandable. Also I enjoyed parts of (though not all of) Jason Bourne, Secret Life of Pets, and even Suicide Squad enough for me to call them guilty pleasures. Not really that good, just guilty pleasures.
Andrew Heaney Didn't get around to pets or Bourne. Did see Suicide Squad. So...average and boring. I mean, I liked Will Smith well enough, laughed a couple of times, but overall, eh.
Patrick Murphy For Bourne and Pets, you are not missing much. Unless you want to see them, I wouldn't recommend them. They're mostly average, with a few standout moments. As for Suicide Squad, I'm a big comics person, so I was extremely hyped for it. It didn't live up to it, but it wasn't as bad as the critics said it was. I liked some of the action scenes, a few of the soundtrack songs were okay choices, Will Smith's character was fantastic, also Margot Robbie's and Viola Davis's characters were awesome and Jay Hernandez and Joel Kinnaman were good too. Otherwise its not very good. Just a guilty pleasure.
Some TV spots spoiled for me Idris Elba's real character. But I guess it didn't really affect me. Overall this movie for me felt like an episode of a TV show. A lot of hype and nothing too special. Meh (shrugs) 8/10.
People now are so weird. "Meh" is 8/10?? That's only 2 grades away from being a full 10! Meh is like 6 not 8.

He's literally suffering from confusion and PTSD after seeing millions of people get killed during the Xindi and Romulan wars.

Beyond is by far my favorite of the three reboot films. It brings back the old whimsical plot points and humor from the original series and it's so beautiful!

I loved this movie so much more than the two that came before it. Saw it three times in theaters. This is the movie they should have made instead of "Star Trek Into Darkness".

I thought it was amazing. They didn't to this whole character development thing all over again. You know, Spock crying about his repressed feelings and the sob story of him being only half Vulcan, Kirk not caring about Starfleet regulations etc. Plus it had better humor than the previous ones.

To be fair about Carol Marcus not being in this film even the original timeline had her leave after she and Kirk hooked up. He didn't find out they had a son together until over 20 years later.

I think they didn't really find much else wrong with it -- which is fine by me, because "Beyond" needs more love.
That's what I took from it, even if the main premise of the video (her recognizing Edison by his face) is flawed. The "Why can't we just teleport him out?" part was pretty good though.
Their animation is getting better. Also, Audible must REALLY like TH-cam and its creators.

Secondly, most people wouldn't know the name Doctor Marcus if I had said it (no I didn't need to look that up she's BAMF as hell and deserves being remembered).
Thirdly, I actually looked it up after complaining and Simon Pegg said that they decided they could not give her character the time it would deserve and so they left her out but believe it is very possible for her to return in the future.
