It really is. The 2009 film is my absolute favourite - I make a point of watching it at least once a month - and although "...Into Darkness" wasn't crap, I still spent about 2yrs praying that this one was at the very least not shit. It is most emphatically Not Shit, and made me feel happy and warm inside.
I think so. The climax is stupid, though, albeit in but a fun way. Mostly I liked it because the characters felt like slightly updated takes on their TOS counterparts in all their interactions, to the point where this really felt like a TOS adventure on the big screen. And I don't mean a "continuation" like the original 6 movies; I mean this could have taken place during the TOS timeframe and would fit right in with the feel of that series.
what the movie is, is quite a few very good parts that are a little loosely connected. so it's enjoyable but nothing too special, but it's worth the watch just for the scene where they blow up all the bee ships
It's nice that it sets itself apart from the first two decently. Also cool to see a TOS-type Starbase realized with modern SFX. It's just that it crashes an Enterprise in record time, debuts the Enterprise A just like in IV, does the theme of wartime nostalgists trying to perpetuate war just like VI, and long-lived aliens who used to look human just like IX. Derivative.
3:11 "Inoperable" also means "not able to be operated". Its usage is correct. 3:28 Emergency force fields for structural integrity are standard on ships in the Star Trek universe. It's a separate system from the defensive shields.
I agree on your second point to an extent but aren't they only standard on the newer versions of the enterprise? In TOS the Enterprise couldn't go above a certain warp factor (maybe 6ish?) for long because it compromised the structural integrity but later versions (TNG+) could sustain higher warp factors because of the force fields.
Earth starships had them since before the Federation even existed (the NX-01 Enterprise used theirs quite often since they defense shields weren't yet developed by humans, so their hull was penetrated or compromised in just about every episode).
So when my doctor told me I had inoperable Cancer, he just meant I can't operate it. Hallelujah, Thank you Jeebus. Screw all this Kemo. I'm going on an around the world cruise, talk to you in 6 months.
3:18 If they are inoperative, they are also inoperable as you can't operate the shields [raising them] if they are inoperative. 4:36 Artificial gravity. 5:02 It's not mandatory. It's her choice. And they give male officers the choice to wear skirts too. 8:46 The Federation is forbidden by treaty to use cloaking technology despite having the capability to produce it.
What is it with Star Trek nerds being completely unable to separate e.g. the TV series from the late '80s/early '90s from a completely set-apart movie series that didn't come out until the late 2000s and is set a century or so in the fictional world's past?
@@MegaZeta I dunno. I was raised on Trek, but it's not like I'm obsessive compulsive about it. Some people just can't help themselves. I did once almost got into a fist fight with a woman when I told her Batman could probably take down a handful of Jedi. I thought we were joking/having fun, she was ready to throw hands. Crazy is found in all walks of life.
@@tomduckworth6430 LOL... this was forever ago, but I meant at once. It was back around the year 2000, the JLA had just fought the Hyper Clan, a bunch of evil White Martians. Bats took out half of them on his own. That, and he was a normal man who stood shoulder to shoulder with virtual gods in the JLA. I only half meant it, to me it was all in fun as I'm not even a Batman fan, and it's all just comic books and movies. The woman was dead serious though, and her friends had to hold her back and get her out of there.
J S Neat. I don’t know enough about the Batman comics to make a truly informed decision on this but I will say there are enough lower class Jedi and Batman is smart enough to deal with force powers that it could be possible.
I like it when you can tell that CinemaSins genuinely love a movie. Sure, they are nitpicky assholes, but they are also moviebuffs. They point out the flaws, but they also appreciate when a movie is well done or has fresh ideas.
+FinalFirebrand you should definitely try it. It was by far the best of the reboot movies; it was the first reboot movie to actually feel like a Star Trek movie.
I would also say that I had some doubts about this movie when i head the director of F&F was directing. So I went in with some low expectations. However, I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Sure, a few things had some flaws, but really weren't that major and all in all it ended up being a good ride
It took three movies but they finally did get the whole crew into the story. It's a shame he was really coming into his own as a character in this and he was so young. Very sad.
@@GoddessOfWhim2003 not true. the film was already complete when he died. the only change the director made was to cut to Chekov after Kirk toasts to absent friends. I hope if there ever is a 4th movie, that there will be a bigger tribute just like Prime Spock's death was handled in this film.
I didn't think the trailers were awful but I obv agree it failed at the box office n that it was adv assume piece of film making...I personally REALLY enjoyed that movie... maybe bc I had little to no expectations going into the movie tho
@@LeutnantComanderData Thank you, I was going to point out that they had a treaty with the Romulans that if they ever used cloaking technology it would be an act of war. Though I am honestly not sure if that applies since the whole timeline got nerfed
This is partially true, although it is unclear if they developed it in this reality. You may be referring to the Treaty of Algeron in 2311, in the original reality. It was in this treaty, between the Romulans and the Federation, that Starfleet / UFP agreed not to develop cloaking technology. This is almost 50 years after 2263. So it's likely that the Kelvin universe isn't that far along.
George Takei actually was upset they made Sulu gay. It was because they only wanted to change it for marketing instead of making any of the new characters gay. Thanks to the people who told me the reason why!
PeridotPlumbob it was because he played the character as straight as that was how he was written, so I think he felt like it went against how the character was originally, also the scene was only up for a couple of seconds, and he didn't see the point of making a well known character gay for like 2 seconds
Gene Roddenberry originally wanted to make Sulu gay. Takei knew this and was fine with making the original Sulu gay, but the attitudes of the time wouldn't let them so he was straight. When Star Trek Beyond announced that Sulu was going to be gay Takei wanted a new character introduced to be the gay character instead of making any of the originals gay.
not really angry, but rather a little upset, because thats not how roddenberry imagined this character and not how it was invented. I think its a great asset.
8:38 - If I remember correctly, the Federation has a treaty with either the Klingons or Romulans that prohibits their use of cloaking technology. There's a whole TNG episode covering that issue I think.
And then after the Dominion attacked the Alpha Quadrant in Deep Space 9, the federation were allowed to suspend that clause of the treaty so they could use a cloaking device on the USS Defiant, weren't they?
It was the treaty of Algeron signed in 2311 shortly after the Tomed Incident. Edit : Bear in mind that Captain Kirk's 5 year mission is from 2264 to 2269.... many years before this treaty.
I actually really enjoyed this movie. It's actually my favourite out of the 3 Abrams movies, mainly because there's a larger emphasis on the crew acting like a crew/family when in a crisis, relying on each other's skillsets to get through.
You sinned the planet "luckily having breathable atmosphere" but when they analysed it they assessed it as M-class, starfleet classification for livable conditions...
Sin of convenience, I guess. These things are a little hard to jugde, especially since SPOILERS Krall and his men are humans, and if the planet hadn't been livable, they all would have died years ago and basically nothing in the movie would have happened. Is that still a sin of convenience? Mmmmaybe.
I remember that episode 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wish all Jeremy's videos could be like this. He's not overly cynical and he spends his sins on actual issues with the movie instead of jokes (while still being funny).
I think he really likes this one. You can often see how he thinks about a movie, if he doesn't like it he's MUCH harsher and almost everything is nitpicky, and if he does like them, the videos tend to be much funnier (And get more sins taken off)
+Kalu-chan Yeah, it's obvious he liked Star Trek Beyond. I guess I just wish he could like more movies. This was by-far the best EWW video he's made in a while, so that would really satisfy all parties.
Kailee Walden you should check out Cinemawins. he's fantastic. super optimistic & cheerful. he commends+analyzes+applauds. (including director, composer, producers, etc)
Not exactly. CinemaWins is sycophantic and utterly incapable of any form of critique or, indeed, analysis (analysis implies the ability to acknowledge something as bad, if needed). Worst of all, is entirely devoid of comedy. That channel is cancer :-)
Technically, it is planet. But man made planet not natural planet. Just like satellite. Moon is our natural satellite and there's plenty man made satellite nowadays
No, it's a space station. There's a distinct difference between a planet and a space station. As you pointed out, Yorktown is man-made therefore automatically declassifying it as a planet. A planet is a solid spheroid object created by natural forces. Since Yorktown was nearly 70% hollow and not naturally made, it cannot be classified as a planet.
@@romanballista cant be a planet, a planet needs natural gravity and core... a planet core, not some weird sciency man-made core and it needs a few other things as well so... technically it is not a planet
Holograms are forcefields in star trek, so they are solid. But they can also make themselves transparent so things can go through them... probably overpowered, but does make sense.
And Cloaking is more than just image refracting, it's a partial subspace displacement that renders a ship undetectable by "standard" means. One look through a sensor and a "refracted" ship would be spotted.
However, that tech wasn't so advanced at the time. Around the TNG era, it could only be used in a room designed for the purpose. You can't even argue that the change in timeline accelerated the development because the only Starfleet tech available is from two centuries before the TNG era- that's a lot of time, and it's from before the two timelines diverged, so accelerated development doesn't matter anyway. I suppose the tech could've been taken from a more advanced species, as such tech was shown by aliens in an episode of Enterprise. However, that does bring up the question of when and how she was able to do so.
TheOriginalJphyper well in TNG we see the first full environments using many projectors latticed together to generate multiple characters, items, and even multiple locations by bending individual perspective in a tiny room. It's not hard to imagine that early projectors were on tripods and had limited functionality and would be fairly stationary when projecting a simpler image like a single combatant or 2 on a bike. Then in the later part of the millennium the tech goes back to smaller compact, but much more powerful, projectors for highly complex holograms as we see in Voyager.
That's my least favorite scene and I skip it when I rewatch the film. Between the Rock and Roll saves the world approach and simple VHF can't be shielded against was too much B.S. for me.
Paul Salmen I CHIME IN WITH A HAVENT YOU PEOPLE EVER HEARD OF, CLOSING THE GOE DAMN DOOR, NO ITS MUCH BETTER TO FACE THESE KINDS OF THINGS WITH A SENSE OF POISE AND RATIONALITY
I feel sad over Nimoy's death. I loved having his Spock to interact with Quinto's. he told him about how they met Khan in the movie, "wrath of Khan" and I was hoping for more stories from Leonard's timeline. this younger generation has no idea what or who is coming next.
They need to STOP destroying the Enterprise in every other movie. Reboots, remakes, revamps and redux and whatever the hell else people wish to call them included. That ship, the captain and crew are the centerpiece of the whole show and movie franchise. Without it, captain and crew can boldly go nowhere.
The Enterprise is the most advanced starship in the Federation fleet, so yea it should last a good long while..... until someone outsmarts or outguns them OR until a new more advanced cutting edge comes along and is even MORE cutting edge. Kirks Enterprise is a pop-gun compared to Harrimans Enterprise (B). What it comes down to is; the Enterprise (Pick which one) is just another ship in the fleet, especially when it remains in service for an extended period. look at it this way; the USS Odyssey was a Galaxy class starship, same as the Enterprise D. At the time of it's destruction the Galaxy classes where the most advanced starships in the fleet, YET the Jem 'Hadar wiped them out simply to prove a point. go back even further to the battle of Wolf 359 and you get a good look at what ONE Borg cube can do to 39 starships (The number of ships destroyed at wolf 359, 11,000 deaths) NOW if you want a real-world example. The Air-craft carrier Enterprise was made inactive in 2013. She served for 51 years, however her TCHNOLOGY makes her more advanced than ANY Russian carrier currently in active service. In other words Russia's most ADVANCED Carrier would be floored by our THIRD OLDEST NAVEL VESEL the USS Enterprise. In this analogy, the "Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Kuznetsov" (Still in service) Is the Federation fleet. And our 51 year old retired Enterprise is the single Borg cube. In summarization the term "Most advance" is relative as all hell. Thus applies to any Starfleet vessel.
@Dustin Reid you mean Picard? its different to say the least.. im enjoying but im also a fan of Patrick so i might be a tad biased, but if you go into it thinking its going to be like TNG you will be disappointed and it does suffer the same as discovery (studio shoving their own political beliefs down your throats ) BUT it is tone down lots compared to discovery and hasn't been to much of an issue for me anyways, I'd recommend watching the first 2 eps that will give you a good idea if you're going to like the whole series or not but even picard doesn't give me that "star trek feeling"
Biggest Sin, Sulu was never gay. George Takei even told Simon Pegg that Sulu was not gay, and Pegg decided to (in my eyes) disrespect George's feel on it and went with the whole gay thing anyways.
@@ZanHecht Takei made that statement as a move of respect for Gene Roddenberry, who though passed away and could not be consulted, Takei felt it wasn't good to retrace Roddenberry's character. It's especially something interesting since Takei himself is gay, and Star Trek's themes have always included the progression of ideas and personal identities in the future.
@@ZanHecht He DOES own the character. He played the role since 1966 and cemented how the character acts and behaves. When people think of Sulu, they think of Takei and his euphoria-oozing voice. Besides, Simon Pegg and Justin Lin made this decision to honor Takei as a Star Trek icon and LGBTQ activist, even though Takei felt that making Sulu gay was a twisting of Gene Roddenberry's creation, calling it "really unfortunate." Although he was delighted that there was a gay character in Star Trek, he asked Pegg and Lin to create a new gay character instead of making Sulu, who has always been straight, gay.
Ok, I really really hate to be "that guy", but has the 'shield technology' ever actually worked? Every time you hear them say "shields up", you can pretty much guarantee that enemy fire / ships / forces / boarding parties will penetrate the hull 100% of the time.
Yes. In the first movie in the relaunch, when the fleet is going to intercept the mining ship above Vulcan, The Enterprise puts it shields up before entering the system. The Enterpise surivies unscathed, whille the rest of the fleet is never seen again due to the fact they were atimized by said mining ship. They have had sheilds save the day many times, even hiding from renogade Borg by hiding in a sun. Problem is, they have come so much to rely on sheild they have little actual defeses should they fail for any reason.
That does save them from getting too damaged in the debris field there, but ultimately the shields are still penetrated when the Romulan ship attacks. It's only Nero's recognizing the Enterprise as the ship that Spock served on that stops the attack.
8:32 When he said "Green Lantern?" No. Not Green Lantern. In the original series there is an episode where the enterpise is literally grabbed out of orbit by a gigantic green force field hand.
The cloaking ship part, I have got something to say about that. The federation does have the tech, but it draw a lot of energy and before that they would recharge the shields, if they implemented the cloak it would practically take out the shield recharger
I thought they reason they couldn't use cloaking tech was because of a treaty with the Klingons (or Romulans?) where they basically agreed not to develop cloaking technology. They actually do have the technology anyway, but that's a secret and they can't use it in any real ships in order to avoid altering the Klingons to the fact that they violated the treaty. Or is that only canon in the Star Trek TV series? Or maybe I'm just misremembering, I have no idea.
The federation to keep the peace with the romulans they agreed not to create or use cloaking technology. They were desperate to not be at war with them so they agreed to this. Since DS9 they were allowed to have cloak, but only to be used in the Gamma Quadrant to fight the dominion.
Yet with far more limited resources, she constructs something very similar that is infinitely more adaptable than anything the Romulans ever did with it though to DS9, and is able to utilize it at will without any of her energy use tipping off Krall. The point is not that you are wrong. Rather the flaw is due to the whole story being so haphazardly contrived that there is no point in trying to explain the contradiction with anything other than "because, star trek."
Yeah the federation has better cloaking tech than either the Romulans or the Klingons, The federation apparently developed phase cloak that made their ships invisible and intangible (TNG The Pegasus) but they aren't allowed to use it due to the treaty of algeron, Even though the Romulans seem violate that treaty by crossing the neutral zone every 5 minutes.
CinemaSins: I guess I am a nitpicker. At 8:50 you asked why the Federation wasn't using cloaking technology if they had Romulan/Klingon like cloaking technology. It's it's because the Federation is allied with the Vulcans who have treaties with the Klingons that state they can't have cloaking technology if they want to maintain peace. So the Federation falls under that category as well due to the fact that we are aligned with the Vulcans. Atleast I believe that's correct I could be making a sin lol. Really like the videos.
not super out of the realm of possibility, in Trek future (like next generation time) we have solid holograms, albeit limited to holodecks until Voyagers doctor gets the mobile emitter, we've also seen the ability to create landscapes possessed by another alien species a 100 years earlier (give or take, during the time of Enterprise) who's to say her species didn't have more advanced holographic
Actually, isnt it thinkable that the ships camouflage only flickered because 4 people were walking half inside it? Kinda like someone walking in front of a projector.
Not to mention if you pay attention, the flickers all start where one of the characters is standing in front of the emitter and extends in a triangle from that point, just like a shadow.
I enjoy this movie the most out of the Kelvin timeline movies because in this movie the Enterprise crew spend more time working together as a real crew rather than leaving it all to Kirk and Spock, with Scotty helping here and there.
@@christopherwatters3268 That's the thing - the movies with more sin takeoffs usually had a bunch taken off for ONE cool moment or factor. This movie just might set a record for the number of TIMES they said "we gotta admit that was awesome; sin off!"
the reason the federation doesen´t use cloaking devices is because of the treaty between the federation, and the Romulans and Klingons. As seen in the TNG episode Pegasus where they had an ship with cloaking device but then Picard decided to uncloak it in front of the romulans to respect the treatie. Also when Worf in DS9 is the first time on board the deffiant he says that he hasnt been in a federation ship with a cloaking device before, but that is false because he was on the pegasus.
This really made it hit home for me some leaps and or/gaps in logic that I felt while watching that I just couldn’t get past like the holograms physically hitting but unable to be hit and the fact that Krall assumes that Starfleet abandoned him not that he was basically impossible to find and/or get to through the nebula. Things like this just kept on bothering me to the point I just wanted the movie to end, especially because I didn’t understand/buy Krall’s motivations in pretty much any way. Excellent SFX and great characters though.
@HeelTaker7, I realize your post is from 3 years ago & you may have lost any interest in this...But didn't the holographic Doctor in ST:Voyager demonstrate to someone he could make himself solid enough to make physical contact with someone then immediately go to being immune to be hit?

While watching the movie, I also ticked at the "planet has air that humans can just breathe" but by the end of the film, it makes sense. If the Franklin crew couldn't have survived, none of this would have happened.
It's not that there are opening movie logos, it's the fact that the amount is constantly increasing, which makes you have to wait longer to see the movie. The point is that all these logos should be put at the end of the movie, and opening producer logos shouldn't really be a thing.
3:57 I'm actually surprised you didn't complain about them leaving the very obvious traitor that lead them into an ambush just sit in the command room unshackled.
"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory." - Leonard Nimoy, On what is believed his final twit to his fans.
I don't get why this movie gets so much hate. This is the best out of the three, which comes closest to Original Star Trek series. Right there with ya Jeremy, take off the sins! :D :D
I loved Beyond. I personally kinda like the first reboot a bit more, but only just barely. I honestly think a lot of Trekkies just wanna worship their Roddenberry material that honestly wasn't as good as they make it seem. I'm a Trekkie and love what he did, but he was far from perfect. I love how this franchise evolves.
Travis Linton I completely agree with you. I loved the reboot too. The characters were given just the right amount of "changes" and the rest was preserved. I just like this one slightly better for the introduction of an original character by the new franchise (Jaylah). As for the hate on the new franchise people generally don't factor in the time Rodenberry was working in, if he had the technology they have now he would have made the action this lively too.
Sarah Siddiqui My uncle, who's a much much much bigger fan of the franchise days this reboot actually keeps to the Trek tradition of mirroring our time, and in a way I can see where he's coming from. There's a lot of post 9/11 parallels if you ask me.
I enjoy the new movies for what they are and I loved the USS Franklin in this movie. Makes me wonder how the NX-class would look in this timeline. However, I prefer the older TV shows and movies more.
In case anyone is wondering, The Beastie Boys didn't destroy Krall's last ships because the frequency disrupts their swarm-like flight pattern, making them collide into one another. Krall's ship was alone, and had nothing to collide into.
They should have taken off all but one sin for the line of dialogue between Bones and Spock when they hear the music. Bones: "Is that classical music?" Spock: "Yes Doctor, it would seem to be."
Oh, alas! You missed the emotional impact of Enterprise getting destroyed in Star Trek III! It was before my time as well, you might say. I got the unspoiled experience of seeing how it all unfolded, but only those who saw it when it was new had to wait and see if the ship was gone forever!
Dear Cinemasins, I am extremely disappointed you didn't dub "Mars Attacks" over the music-destroys-the-aliens scene at the end of the episode. Reagards, Mr J Johnster
The pods landed near the same place because they are programmed with coordinates to make them land in the same place. Her's was probably tied with the captains', but I'll give you that I don't have a source to back this one up.
Okay, where to begin... "(source: Star Trek: First Contact)" But they might not have them back in the original era, that movie is from the TNG/DS9 era. "Inertial dampeners keep Kirk standing while the ship is toppling" And we can see from the TNG AND TOS that those inertial dampeners aren't worth a damn, since a slight bump makes the entire ship shake so much that the crew has to steady themselves on something. "The federation has a treaty that restricts them from using cloaking technology" This is from way before that time. The war that made them sign that treaty was after TOS. Do you even Star Trek, bro? Edit: There's also a big difference between refraction of light and stealth that'll also hide a vessel's energy signature. This didn't hide the energy, merely refracted the light.
Actually, inertial dampeners are one of the first to go and limit movement by anomalies, warp drive, etc. What you are describing is artificial gravity.
Saying it's the most like the original Star Treks really isn't saying much when it's still hardly similar to the originals. Fuck this discount Fast and Furious in space pile of crap.

Any Star Trek fan knows that the Federation is against using cloaking technology, COME ONNNN. There's a million other things I want to complain about in this video but that'll do.
not really against it it is in hear contract with Romulus if im not wrong that they are not allowed to have a cloaking device. They get one from Romulus for the defiant because the the Alpha and Beta quadrant where threatent from the Dominion
not really, they just had a treaty where they would not use it or develop it on their own. and I think the defiant's cloaking device was a closely guarded secret that if the romulans found out it would have lead to war but due to their buddying up over the dominion threat it was overlooked.
Jay Milligan it was part of a peace treaty with Romulas that they could not have a cloaking device the Reliant was not technically a federation ship it was a captured repurposed ship just like DS9 was not actually a federation out post. lt was originally Cardasian.
Adam Zeliff the Defiant was a starfleet designed ship, it was made for combat and had an illegal cloaking device on it. the main reason they always hid the fact that it existed for most of the series after it was introduced. only DS9 was a repurposed Cardassian space station.
Should've removed a sin for the last shot of Anton Yelchin when Kirk says *"to absent friends"* that was a brilliant way of paying respects to the actor.
please cinemasins you have to do "space balls" and that spoof of star trek with tim allen.... probably that make it a challenge to do a great video. you know for the actual fun.
The problem with spoof films (like "Space Balls" or "Galaxy Quest") is that their sins are intentional - so how can you count an intentional movie sin as a sin? The spoof films are highlighting all the sins of the movies they are spoofing. The reason why it's fun to point out sins in "serious" movies is that the writers and directors appear to be unaware or don't care that their mistakes are so obvious.
Star Trek Beyond is a much better movie than most people give it credit for. Great pacing, a decent story and great tributes to the late Nimoy. I enjoyed this film a lot.
Michael Chow I respectfully disagree. It's not only the worst of the already terrible new trilogy but I would put it as the worst of the prior movies as well. Yes, even the Final Frontier was better than this disaster.
sage11x i think we have to kind of separate the past 3 star treks and the traditional Star Trek. Trust me I love the old films and series (not DS9 tho I'm sorry)... but given that films are about having fast pacing and more action, this film managed to kind of capture a little bit about what a typical Star Trek away mission would be but also give us good action.
I'm more confused about how Chrisjen Avasarala managed to not only go into a different universe entirely, but also get a successful career in that universe. The Expanse? Anyone? It's a good show...
You missed a big one. While they're running around trying to get stuff done in the air recycler units, why didn't they just beam to where they needed to be? Or better yet, just beam the bad and the weapon into space? I mean, they showed public transporters in use earlier in the movie. Surely they could have just done that. +1 sin
Billy McAuliffe I agree. Although we really give directors crap for not being realistic, they direct the movie illogically because it's more fun that way. Screw logic, right? The public wants fighting and explosions. Panem et circenses!
5:03 well this whole movie wouldn't have happened if the planet didn't have breathable air because krall and his crew would have been long dead soooo remove that sin damn it

Nah I think there were one or two that had more (exceptions are the April Fools one which doesn't count). I think one might have been Jaws.
You forget Troll 2 I think! I am pretty sure Interstellar also beats it by a sizable margin.
had like 5 sins removed when usually when he removes sins from other movies it will be 5 at once for something really good
I dont know why. This movie is terrible and dumb. Everyone should have died from the bees in the first 20 minutes,
Negative sins: 8. Must be a record for this channel
what about wall-e?
Xyzzyx I just made a comment about that myself lol
What about the April fools special?!?!?!
I think he did nine for Mad Max Fury Road
he's getting soft
***** oh okay, thanks for the info.
So when my doctor told me I had inoperable Cancer, he just meant I can't operate it. Hallelujah, Thank you Jeebus. Screw all this Kemo. I'm going on an around the world cruise, talk to you in 6 months.
+Justin Franks
I love you.
J S Question: Do you mean a handful of Jedi at once or there are a handful of Jedi Batman could take 1v1?
Hes not a master lock picker. Hes a doctor
_Dammit Jim! I'm a doctor, not a locksmith!_
Whewf. I was wondering if people would understand that thanks xD
You're welcome x3
omg I just died 😂
Roronoa Zoro XD
This is the first time a Cinema Sins video actually made me consider watching a movie.
I know right! I just commented this.
+DejaVoodooDoll well I'm sure if they had more time Kirk would be boning everything in sight.
***** that's a huge accusation considering there are movies out there including "Meet the Spartans" and "Super Babies" that plague the market.
"That's russist"
I lost it
A quality sin for sure
So I sent a comment after watching the 'russist' bit. I scroll down, and i find the EXACT SAME comment.
Is this the most that Jeremy has ever removed sins from a movie?
maybe he meant a legit movie
I don't believe so. He sucks hard on Mickey's dick for the TFA sins. Takes them off in bunches constantly.
He gave Citizen Kane a bunch of love too lol
everybody sucks that movie's dick
Mark Lumsley 9 + 1 potential is my count for removed
1 sin off for the memory of Anton Yelchin he'll be missed
It took three movies but they finally did get the whole crew into the story. It's a shame he was really coming into his own as a character in this and he was so young. Very sad.
that's why Bones went through Chekov's locker. RIP Anton
@@GoddessOfWhim2003 not true. the film was already complete when he died. the only change the director made was to cut to Chekov after Kirk toasts to absent friends. I hope if there ever is a 4th movie, that there will be a bigger tribute just like Prime Spock's death was handled in this film.
hah not by me
Even though it's 100+ sins, I've ever seen so many sins taken off, must be a pretty good movie
It also only got 118 sins, so... yeah. It's definitaly worth it!
KingFiz Fury Road. I could say trolls 2 but that was an April fools joke.
KingFiz I just made the same comment myself actually lol
It is actually a class film, just a shame it completely failed at the box office cause all the trailers were awful.
I didn't think the trailers were awful but I obv agree it failed at the box office n that it was adv assume piece of film making...I personally REALLY enjoyed that movie... maybe bc I had little to no expectations going into the movie tho
Actually no, Federation did have the technology to cloak. However in agreement with the Romulans they stopped developing it
THANK YOU
@@LeutnantComanderData Thank you, I was going to point out that they had a treaty with the Romulans that if they ever used cloaking technology it would be an act of war. Though I am honestly not sure if that applies since the whole timeline got nerfed
The treaty isnt in effect yet though so why wouldnt eariler ships have cloaks.
When was that explained in the movie?
Oh it wasn't than it is a sin.
This is cinemasin not all of star trek sins.
PeridotPlumbob he was upset because it differed from Roddenberry's character and was done for no reason other than marketing.
Thanks you guys! I couldn't remember the reason why since it had been so long since I read it.
To be fair, the scene where they used the music to destroy the swarm was the sickest shit I've seen all year.
"Broadcast!"
8:38 - If I remember correctly, the Federation has a treaty with either the Klingons or Romulans that prohibits their use of cloaking technology. There's a whole TNG episode covering that issue I think.
13:14 - "inventive and smart" in the way "Mars Attacks" was inventive and smart?
Zack Tyler I came to mention the treaty as well. They talk about it a lot in TNG episode the Pegasus.
And then after the Dominion attacked the Alpha Quadrant in Deep Space 9, the federation were allowed to suspend that clause of the treaty so they could use a cloaking device on the USS Defiant, weren't they?
Pond Scum also that is technically years after this movie
It was the treaty of Algeron signed in 2311 shortly after the Tomed Incident. Edit : Bear in mind that Captain Kirk's 5 year mission is from 2264 to 2269.... many years before this treaty.
I actually really enjoyed this movie. It's actually my favourite out of the 3 Abrams movies, mainly because there's a larger emphasis on the crew acting like a crew/family when in a crisis, relying on each other's skillsets to get through.
You sinned the planet "luckily having breathable atmosphere" but when they analysed it they assessed it as M-class, starfleet classification for livable conditions...
yep M stands for Minchara class, a Vulcan designation that Starfleet adopted
Sin of convenience, I guess. These things are a little hard to jugde, especially since
SPOILERS
Krall and his men are humans, and if the planet hadn't been livable, they all would have died years ago and basically nothing in the movie would have happened. Is that still a sin of convenience? Mmmmaybe.
Gordon Graham I guess that's convenient, however at the same time this film was still awesome
Start Trek owns Star Wars especially with the new Star Wars "movie".

8:34 the "giant green floating hand" is actually a reference to Apollo from the the original Star Trek TV show

Hmm perhaps the next Star trek film could be the Federation vs The Jolly Green Giant. All is possible if Tarantino takes the reins.

1:17 "Apparently, the Federation decided to build Elysium on this planet"
me: ...that's...not a planet...

TheOriginalJphyper maybe jayla's race had really advanced technology for that era allowing the hologram emitters to be smaller?
Dar-man francis That's a possibility, sure. In any case, it's definitely not Federation technology.
I can watch this movie 1000 times just for the Beastie Boys scene

If the main cast knew what was coming, and how to win, the movies wouldn't be fun anymore.

Without it, captain and crew can boldly go nowhere.
"Without it, captain and crew can boldly go nowhere."
😂😂😂
Yes. I was being funny.
Aw, I missed that you we're being funny until I hit send. Now I look like an ass, sorry.

Trolls 2...
Biggest Sin, Sulu was never gay. George Takei even told Simon Pegg that Sulu was not gay, and Pegg decided to (in my eyes) disrespect George's feel on it and went with the whole gay thing anyways.
Takei just played the character, he didn't write it, nor does he own it.
Zan Hecht I wish Star Wars took this advice to heart with Leya.
@@ignaciocue Still doesn't own the character. That's the company that owns the rights to it.
Ok, I really really hate to be "that guy", but has the 'shield technology' ever actually worked? Every time you hear them say "shields up", you can pretty much guarantee that enemy fire / ships / forces / boarding parties will penetrate the hull 100% of the time.
In the TV series it worked. The stupid factor gets massively jacked up for movies, though.
It's just a shield, it gives them some extra defence, not makes them indistructible
Volkier Neigh I agree with that. These ships are somehow easily damaged compared to what we've seen of the older Star Trek movies
I love those references

@@assassin1338 Thanks for the correction!
Andrew Meyer not sure on that one

Especially the illusion ones... I mean it was awesome but RIP logic
not super out of the realm of possibility, in Trek future (like next generation time) we have solid holograms, albeit limited to holodecks until Voyagers doctor gets the mobile emitter, we've also seen the ability to create landscapes possessed by another alien species a 100 years earlier (give or take, during the time of Enterprise) who's to say her species didn't have more advanced holographic
This is why I subscribe and watch these videos. He rips up a movie I liked and I can't help but agree 90% of the time.

It's hilarious but it kinda makes sense: you'd want to leave command staff uninjured for interrogation.
Also Chekov gets hit by the blast into the room
the reason the federation doesen´t use cloaking devices is because of the treaty between the federation, and the Romulans and Klingons.
Daniel Lopez But there isn't a treaty with the Klingons in this timeline, as far as it's shown. And the Federation is on a more warlike footing.
Shane Hudson Also, the Treaty of Algeron wasn’t signed until 2311, and this takes place in 2263.
At this point the federation doesn't use cloaking becouse the federation doesn't think it fits with what they stand for
NEEEEEEERRRRD!!!

It's not that there are opening movie logos, it's the fact that the amount is constantly increasing, which makes you have to wait longer to see the movie. The point is that all these logos should be put at the end of the movie, and opening producer logos shouldn't really be a thing.
When something like this becomes a standard it should be deadly sin.

I'm actually surprised you didn't complain about them leaving the very obvious traitor that lead them into an ambush just sit in the command room unshackled.
Sarah Siddiqui agreed
Holy shit! This video is trending, remove five sins
Logic
"Logic is a little bird, chirping in a meadow..."
Ninjabear Press wow, is that an "I, Mudd" reference? XD
Also pouring a drink out for a person who passed was such a sweet nod to their friend. Almost brought a tear to my eye
"Of course not, it's rap!"
Fucking thank you.
In case anyone is wondering, The Beastie Boys didn't destroy Krall's last ships because the frequency disrupts their swarm-like flight pattern, making them collide into one another. Krall's ship was alone, and had nothing to collide into.
Eight sins revoked in a Star Trek movie?!?!? Will We Find Hope in the Impossible... or WHAT!?!?!?!?...
I know damn
“Is that music?”
“Of course not, it’s rap!”
Best line of the video 😂😂😂
They should have taken off all but one sin for the line of dialogue between Bones and Spock when they hear the music.
Bones: "Is that classical music?"
Spock: "Yes Doctor, it would seem to be."
More like needed to add more sins for the vastly overused "everyone in the future is a fan of stuff from when the movie was made" tripe.
Furious Sherman I can like both these positions, right?
Mozart is classical, the Beastie Boys will be unheard two centuries from now.
Despite its faults, this movie was the one that introduced me to Star Trek
Oh, alas! You missed the emotional impact of Enterprise getting destroyed in Star Trek III!
It was before my time as well, you might say. I got the unspoiled experience of seeing how it all unfolded, but only those who saw it when it was new had to wait and see if the ship was gone forever!
Same, I think a lot of old Trekies don’t realize that the new trilogy actually brought in a lot of new people to a dying series
Dear Cinemasins,
I am extremely disappointed you didn't dub "Mars Attacks" over the music-destroys-the-aliens scene at the end of the episode.
Reagards,
Mr J Johnster
"Is that music?"
"Of course not, it's rap!"
Can I cheat the system to give this video 3,141,592,653,589,793 likes for that sin alone?
.____________.

;-)
This guy really REALLY doesnt like rap. kreinsamer, i would love to hear your story!
CinemaSins, Emergency force fields keep the atmosphere from leaking out when the hull is penetrated.

Inertial dampeners keep Kirk standing while the ship is toppling. Usually one of the last systems to go offline.
The pods landed near the same place because they are programmed with coordinates to make them land in the same place. Her's was probably tied with the captains', but I'll give you that I don't have a source to back this one up.
The federation has a treaty that restricts them from using cloaking technology. Do you even prime directive, bro? lol
Okay, where to begin...
"(source: Star Trek: First Contact)"
But they might not have them back in the original era, that movie is from the TNG/DS9 era.
"Inertial dampeners keep Kirk standing while the ship is toppling"
And we can see from the TNG AND TOS that those inertial dampeners aren't worth a damn, since a slight bump makes the entire ship shake so much that the crew has to steady themselves on something.
"The federation has a treaty that restricts them from using cloaking technology"
This is from way before that time.
WOW, so many sins taken off. Well the movie was good so yay!
yep!!
L
The movie was good? I guess we didn't see the same movie.
no, the movie is bad
Saying it's the most like the original Star Treks really isn't saying much when it's still hardly similar to the originals. Fuck this discount Fast and Furious in space pile of crap.
DO HOME ALONE 1 AND 2!
If he does thoes, sin counter will be broken apart then. The most sins are how the bad guys survived any non-survivable accidents. Also if he does Home Alone 1 and 2, he needs to do also Home Alone 3 and Baby's Day Out.
They didn't do a sins video, but a couple of "how many times they'd die" video. Look it up on their channel - the earlier videos
avinotion no it was screen junkies (honest trailers) that did that it was called honest action and they did it for die hard as well
Fun fact: most Russians prefer fine cognac to vodka.
Do you know most Russians to say this as a fact?
Just Some Jew i get annoyed when people speak on behalf of others too but he’s not wrong here lol russia has been obsessed with all things french for a long long time 🙃
Just Some Jew just the people I know and the Russian books I read
bruh i’m russian and honestly, cognac sucks.
@@miwamono5338 ну у него хотя бы вкус есть
(At least it has some taste)
hahahaha "of course not it's rap" is one of the best sins ever.
twhite1989 lol....agreed
what do you mean
DAE RAP= CRAP
Pokemario Fan
How old are you
jinpayne im 13 BUT IM MATURE FOR MY AGE!!!!!
Damn Jeremy, have you ever taken away so many sins in one movie before? No disagreement, just askin
AmsterdamHeavy Yes he has! His Troll 2 video :D
AmsterdamHeavy holyshit his name is Jeremy?! o0o
I only know because of his other channel...or something... I think.
Adam Zeliff
the Defiant was a starfleet designed ship, it was made for combat and had an illegal cloaking device on it. the main reason they always hid the fact that it existed for most of the series after it was introduced. only DS9 was a repurposed Cardassian space station.
I meant the Reliant the cloaking device was part of the ship which means not federation
I think this must have been the first time they decided to start singing removals and haven’t quite figured out how they will do them
5:21 Uhura says to Krall that Kirk will come for them and then Krall says he's counting on it. I've heard this before in Batman Forever.
The reason why it's fun to point out sins in "serious" movies is that the writers and directors appear to be unaware or don't care that their mistakes are so obvious.
bro, its a spoof on star wars, literally they have like 20 Easter eggs in it that correlates to star wars
Spaceballs is Star Wars, while Galaxy Quest is Star Trek + general space movies, Josh.
still it is worth of the attempt
Space Balls would easily have a low sin count, so you make the second half Galaxy quest to have the 20 min average
He referenced Oscar Issacs, and I had to pause and then realize “ oh yeah he was in that forgettable X-men movie” lol
This was the most terrible, stupid, feminist, millenial, clownish and unworthy movie of all so called "Star Trek"-Movies.
I absolutely fully agree! The previous ones were quite bad as well, but this one was the worst.
sage11x i think we have to kind of separate the past 3 star treks and the traditional Star Trek. Trust me I love the old films and series (not DS9 tho I'm sorry)... but given that films are about having fast pacing and more action, this film managed to kind of capture a little bit about what a typical Star Trek away mission would be but also give us good action.
I don't care how many sins a movie get, if they have a lot of sin removed moment, you know it's a good movie.
5:52 thats cos its a Kage Bunshin No Jutsu not a hologram...
also known as the "shadow clone Jutsu" for people who haven't yet gone into full weeb mode
TastesLikePanda A. this is never said in the movie and B. that doesn't make the second part of that sin any less relevant.
lol that popped in my head too, except enemies don't pass through his shadow clones
Do you need all explanations spelled out for you? :)
16:27 I really wonder if Starfleet really thinks that sometimes
I love how many sins they took away. I like this movie, so that was cool.
I've never see him remove so many sins throughout a movie
Rose Manupello I bet it's a record
Jeffrey Shaffer
-Is that music?
- Ha ha ha, of course not, it's rap!
subbed!
While I fully enjoy this channel and it's content, the voice overs at the end are some of my favorite moments.
2:06 Admiral Raan? The fuck are you doing in this movie and out of your protective suit?
Lonly Wanderer Glad I'm not the only one to spot her.
Lonly Wanderer noticing it in theater with no one I know who has played mass effect
+1 sin
Why don't they solve all their problems by beaming people?
+1 sin
Billy McAuliffe I agree. Although we really give directors crap for not being realistic, they direct the movie illogically because it's more fun that way. Screw logic, right? The public wants fighting and explosions. Panem et circenses!
"Scotty, you fuckin' liar!" LOOOOOOOOOOOL ROFL
5:03 well this whole movie wouldn't have happened if the planet didn't have breathable air because krall and his crew would have been long dead soooo remove that sin damn it
Chill, nerd
It’s class m
