  • I play a Magic: the Gathering Online Vintage league with a deck with many names: Bazaar Aggro, Madness, Madvine, CounterVine, Squee, HollowVine... whatever you want to call it, this deck seeks to abuse Bazaar of Baghdad to cheat creatures into play. Blazing Rootwalla and Basking Rootwalla enter play, triggering Vengevine and potentially Prized Amalgam as well. Hollow One offers fast aggro options as well, and free counterspells support the plan. Force of Will, Force of Negation, and Force of Vigor all offer strong tempo options once you have a threat going.

Phil, this is their unique build that's built to beat up on PO and shops, with about 12 One ofs for every situation. They've posted several 5-0s with the deck, much to the vintage communitiy's shock and applause.

Lol, their most recent 5-0 finish from earlier this week has Grafdigger's Cage and Damping Sphere in the main deck with no way to search for them. And 2x Migloz.

16:52 A cool trick you can do with squee is to naturally discard them to build hand size in order to be able to discard multiple cards in the same turn. In this particular case you could have binned the two vengevines first and then the two rotwallas to bring them back

The first match dude was playing his own brew. He is a very good vintage player. It might look like a pile of garbage but its very effective in the format.

Exposure therapy was a necessary intervention, great video as always Phil.

For R2M2 another possible line would have been to discard vine, vine, Master of death, and on the fourth turn return master, discard 2 wallas and return 2 vengevines. Not sure if it would have been better or worse than just the walla beat down

I agree, prizes amalgam was basically a U/B card without text in this league. I feel like this deck is missing some way to refill, like ox of agonas, but I can’t think of something that would work with no mana sources.

Fun thing you can do is hold priority to the madness trigger and cast the Once Upon a Time because instant and madness has to resolve BEFORE you may even attempt to cast the creature. I still think holding it for a double creature is the correct line, but it could come up for someone in the future.

Back before the initiative coup, there was a popular temur vintage deck that ran a bunch of fair magic, like goyf, backed up by moon and the like, I wonder if that's what your match 1 opponent was paying. I only bring that up because that deck always struck me as super out of place in the format because it just seemed like a pile of good fair cards in an ocean of unfair chicanery, but I also only have a passing interest in vintage, and the deck was popular, so I would assume, despite now it looked to me, it was good.
