    i haven't commented on your videos or messaged you on Instagram for a while but i would just like to thank you again for these videos. They don't really help me financially because i am only 13 but your videos help me a lot more than that. I have anxiety and depression and even though it isn't that good for me to try and push it way but sometimes it is practical for me to do that and your videos always make me smile and help me to compose myself after i have seen that you have become a better and more confident person, even though i only know the things that you have out in your Instagram story and TH-cam videos but i still fell a connection and i feel proud to have watched your videos over the past 6 months. i thought that you would be grateful for some gratitude for the help you have been to me an even though the same story doesn't apply for most people i would like to also thank you on behalf of everyone else who watched, liked and commented on your videos for just being wonderful. 💙

    So, just curious: if you're doing a no spend in January why are you still filling the spending envelope? Is it for emergencies? I'm just kind of confused over if the no spend is for saving money or just an exercise in self-control

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Everyone has their own rules for a no-spend, but for mine I'm allowing myself to still spend money on "experiences". I'm just not allowing spending on things like makeup, new clothes, miscellaneous things I don't need like a new phone case, pens, house plants, literally anything 😂 But I can still pay my cover at a bar and go hang out with friends, I can pay for TJ and I to go ice skating, things like that.

    I don’t understand. If you get a bonus, your check would be more, not less? I know the more you make the more taxes they take but if you got a bonus and brought home less money then no one would want a bonus, right? I think I’m missing something.

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They paid me my regular paycheck, and then sent a bonus check in the mail. But I still have to get taxes taken out of that bonus, so they take the tax amount for the bonus out of my regular paycheck. This video doesn't show the check that appeared in the mail a few days later, but I did receive one.

      I usually put them on the counter devided as three different transactions and let the cashier know I'm doing three transactions. Usually not a problem

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If I have small enough bills in my different envelopes, I'll sometimes take the money out from different envelopes. So lets say I'm buying a $10 shelf for my room, and a $25 denim jacket or something. I'll pull $10 from spending if possible, and $25 from clothes, and then just whatever I need from groceries. But I've also done the separate transactions thing too! That's what Dave recommends. People are pretty used to people having to do separate transactions for business expenses and things like that, so I wouldn't worry about being a pain or anything like that.

    Question/statement I guess so that everyone knows. When you are paying off your car, are you making your payment and then using your snowball towards the principal? If not that would be a good thing to do. When putting it to the principal, that money goes straight to what you owe, not to the interest rates. 😃 Love what you do! Keep it up.

    I feel like whenever I see these cash envelopes videos, I never see people adding Rent and Utilities or budgeting for it with their paychecks. Do people do separate processes for bills like that? Like is this weekly income after paying rent and utilities? Just curious as I’m not sure how people budget for that with these zero based budgets.

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I had rent and utilities to pay, I'd show you guys! I'm taking advantage of being able to live at home still while working and going to school, which obviously has been extremely helpful in me being able to pay off my debt so fast.

      Well a pretty large chunk of it gets set aside for taxes, and then a small portion gets set aside for savings for my channel. Then every penny of the rest goes toward my debt snowball 😊

    Do you have a plan with what you're going to do when you're out of debt? Like do you have a big purchase or something you're going to save towards? Do you keep your coins in a “piggy bank” and then when it’s full cash it in? I always wondered that when I watch your videos

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put all of my coins in the coin slot of my wallet, and I try to use them up but if that gets full I dump it into a jar in my room. Then once that's full I take it to Constar (I should be rolling coins at the bank, Coinstar takes so much!) and then that amount can go toward whatever I want it to. If I'm short an amount I need in my other envelopes, I can use it on that. I can pay for a date with my boyfriend, have extra grocery money, or just throw it toward my debt. Last time I turned in my coins I had about $30 and I just so happened to be about $28 short for my copay for new glasses, so I used it on that.

  • @laurasweat5495
    @laurasweat5495 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know you said that you were paying off that amount for January but am confused since January is just starting? Do you go from the previous month?

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well my car payment is due on the 15th. So my last paycheck before this was 12/21, too late to go toward December's car payment, so it goes toward January. And so does the 1/04 paycheck. My next is 1/18, which again would be too late, so that will go toward February along with my 2/01 paycheck.

      I'll be moving on to step 3, which is to complete my emergency fund. Right now I have a starter emergency fund of $1000, and baby step 3 will be to save up 3-6 months of expenses. Once I've got that all saved, I'd really like to move out and start saving for retirement, a down payment for a house, things like that! 😊

    For your no-spend are you still able to use your spending money? You should do a video about your no-spend!!

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I can still spend on experiences (ice skating with TJ, cover for a bar or something, tickets to go see a show), but per my own rules (everyone has their own rules for a no spend and there's no right or wrong way to do it) I'm not allowing myself to buy new clothes this month, toiletries(unless I completely run out of all that I own...unused bottles of conditioner under my sink, I'm talking to you!), makeup, planner supplies, house plants, things like that! It's more to stop myself from accumulating more junk I don't need than to save money. I rarely go over my $40 allotted per paycheck for spending money, but I don't always use the $40 I have the most wisely

    • @divabonitaa

    What do you do with your change? Coins?

    • @alyssamakeseverything
      @alyssamakeseverything  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone in your family or TJ do cash envelopes?

    • @alyssamakeseverything

      Joan Stump my dad likes to do cash envelopes while on vacation, and my mom has envelopes for certain “funds” for things she wants to buy, but no one does envelopes for spending, gas, groceries, things like that. My best friend has expressed interest but so far no one has actually done it!

    I would love to start doing this considering I just bought a new car, my insurance has gone up and I also just bought a new phone! Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a bullet journal that’ll hold up for the whole year? :)
