Every track on this album is top notch 1980 christ it's just as good today deffo in my top 10 all time al bums played it death when it came out unbelievable album
My favorite Elvis Costello album too. Probably one of his best. On the back Nick Lowe says"'You'll have noticed that there are ten (?) tracks on each side of this, Elvis' new LP, making it a real "long player". Elvis and I talked long and hard about the wisdom of taking this unusual step and are proud that we can now reassure hi-fi enthusiasts and/or people who never bought a record before 1967 that with the inclusion of this extra music time they will find no loss of sound quality due to "groove cramming" as the record nears the end of each face ."
It's not all THAT long, though. I was 17 years old back then, and I had several other records that ran that long. It seemed like much ado about nothing.
Great album! His first 4 were amazing.....This Year's Model is probably the best all around but Get Happy is awesome....especially the 2 cd Rhino release with 50 Tracks!!
I just love Get Happy! It’s my favorite EC record. That he had the motivation to make the record as a sort of mea culpa after a very regrettable incident is another story. But hey, check out the end result. I wish he would have made another in a similar vein. The title says it all.
A lot of those songs on that album were first released on 45s, which I collected. So I was kind of pissed when they put them all on the album. Plus, the last song on both sides tended to skip since they were packed in so tightly.

Love it since I bought it in 1980. Never bought another Elvis Costello…
I think it's his best album, out of seven straight stunning albums at the beginning of his career.
Along with Imperial Bedroom for me. Can't decide. No way to pick the best five songs. Even the five weakest songs are very good.

Get the CD. Make sure it's the re-issue version.

Riot Act is my favourite track on the album.
Did you ever hear the Mobile Fidelity, (2) lp, 45 RPM version? Sounds pretty good to me, and it is my "go to" copy.
It’s his best, a bridge between early and what he got into. Love the economy and punch.

Yes. The vinyl playback has issues because of that. Love the song, but not the LP itself.
Only men are leaving comments. I still have the first generation 1980 American vinyl. I spent 1980 and 81 listening to this.
Same here
Great review! Love Elvis Costello!
And your cat is cool

Have any idea why they added the phony ringwear to the cover of the reissue?
