I have these pickups in the Reverend Gristle 90, and they are KILLER! By the way, for those worried about the battery - it goes like 300 hours between charges (yeah, that's not a typo, 300) so... yeah.
Great example, Bad Religion plays everything on juniors so... I just used a half a cheap humbucker with no magnet or pole pieces as a dummy coil and taped it to my guitar where it wasn't in the way, no noise...
These indeed sound amazing! I have a SD quarter pounder in the bridge of my jazzmaster and the throaty low mids with that tele like high end "twang" is just unrivaled. Great vid and props to Fishman for the voicing options.
Just for future reference, Jazzmaster pickups are not p90s. Closer to a P90S with slug poles instead of screws and bar magnets. Even overwound, they aren't close to the same thing. They sound cool though.
I’ve been buying guitars since the 70’s. The last few I’ve bought have been Suhr’s, but I thought I’d give Gibson another shot. Saw a Les Paul special tribute that is literally bare bones, with P-90s. I was blown away. My wife calls it the “rat-rod” because it’s just as simple as a guitar gets. But for some reason that set of P-90 keep drawing me back. I was looking at a set of these Fishman pickups… but it will have to wait for my next guitar with P-90s. Nice review ✌️
I'm excited by these. After 30 years I've only "gotten" the P90 thing in the last 2. The Fishmans are interesting, but i have such specific taste with humbuckers and singlecoils. At much as i now love P90s, the hum kills me. I can deal with it with singlecoils, but i find P90s to just be too much. I said 2 weeks ago "if Fishman did a Fluence P90, i think I'd buy them." And they're here. These in a Yamaha Revstar RV502 with the Fishmans is pretty much the perfect guitar.
So happy to have found this! Thanks! I am building a Tele and cant decide which Gristle Tone set to get. I am leaning toward the P-90's. Please, tell me if you can still get Tele country twang and chicken pick'n tones from the P-90's Bridge.??? I would install the P=90 in a Tele Bridge Plate if that matters...
I am pretty new to the P90 game, but DANG I love them. Surprisingly, they sound killer through my EVH head. If course a decent gate is necessary, but they are phenomenal.
Anyone have experience with using these Greg Koch P90's with low tunings? I am thinking about putting them in my Telecaster Baritone but wonder how they would pair with super low drop stuff like Drop A, etc.
Did you install the pickups or were they in it? I don't see any that come stock with the fishmans. Wondering the wiring setup you used and your voice setup on the three way?
While P90s indeed to great classic & punk tones, while I was on a technical/prog kick I developed a hankering for the Nazgul/Sentient set. I saw an LP Studio P90 up on the wall and wondered how big the void was between them. DSL100. The P90s handled all my quasi technical whatever just as easy as the Blackjack with the Nazgul did, but never sounded like a meme pickup. Knowing I could footswitch between that & a Stones, Sabbath, Faces, Bowie tone is a fantastic prospect. But, the noise. Been waiting for these. They could just be the 1 Pickup To Rule Them All.
Why not discuss the fact that the cavity cover has to be removed to replace the battery, or if a guitar like a LP junior gets one of these pickups then the pickguard has to be removed to change the battery? Kinda important for those who are considering the pickups
Yeah, I'm ordering a set for my Peavey Firenza (a Van Halen era Peavey) which plays nice but I can't get past the P-90 hum. Now the guitar will be a practical live performance piece. Thanks for showing us what a hi-gain setup sounds like, tight.
FLUFF I NEED YER HELP in your opinion would these do well for heavier tones like OG Black Sabbath i know Tony Iommi used p90s for the first 5 BS albums would these capture those tones well
I am in the same boat, want a P90 guitar but have held off due to the noise, now I want these pickups but not sure what guitar to put them in, please update us on what you choose, would love to see your selection.
hi , i've put tonerider vintage P90 ( alnico ll ) in my epi 2020 lp special tv yellow , and yep , they made a great guitar wich only cost 400 euro's new , sound even better !
Sound Clip 2 and the BR cover thing are some of the best tones I've heard on your channel. I really wanted to hear the American Jesus bridge though, just to hear the palm mutes in the mix.
I got a set installed today everyone, and they’re in fact, awesome (duh). Love P90’s. The 3 voicings are really neat too. Can’t wait to hear them layered in a mix.
It's a big deal because artists that get signature pickups that sound really great end up doing stuff like Tosin and Ola. I will continue to contend that you can design guitars all day long but if you can get your own pickups you can *find* people to make you guitars that make you happy, and if people already like your pickups then a lot of people will probably like how you designed/spec'd your own guitar too or they'll at least try it out and you'll find out *quickly* if you did it right.
I'd love to hear these in a 30 inch scale baritone in a super low tuning! Like the humanity's last breath tuning. E B E A G# A. I have no idea how to use it but I want to figure it out! I'm still learning the josh travis tuning on my 9 string A d a d c c g g# e.
@@KalJoao andrew baena has p90s in his baritone 6. He's got the Squier jazzmaster, a custom 28 inch scale kit, and had the tele 27 inch scale. Check him out. Him and Joshua travis are why I have an 8 and 9 string. Also why I love low tunings. They got me started.
I’m seriously impressed with the tones that these p-90’s are capable of ….I really thought the whole active p-90 idea was all marketing but these seem to sound like a p-90 is supposed to without the hum or changing the tone like a p-100 and/or dummy coils tend to do because sometimes you just want the tone of the p-90 but because of the lighting or electrical interference wherever you are playing at is causing serious noise your kinda stuck with humming and squealing or have to settle on a different tone ….. this is based on the few videos I’ve watched on my iPhone on TH-cam so until I get to hear them in person my opinion is just based on the theory and some sound samples on a less than ideal device that could have god knows how much editing amd studio trickery going on not that I’m accusing Fluff or anyone else of shenanigans but I also don’t want to speak as if I know first hand how they sound or how they react to a tube amp vs. Digital modelling or if they would work well with a bridge humbucker like the original Les Paul BFG was set up because that’s a combination that is almost unheard of but works so well together I play a lot of metal type stuff and I have a habit of using my neck pickup for solos and leads that don’t use heavy harmonics I never even considered a p-90 until Gibson came out with the BFG in 07 and that year my tax return was exactly what the BFG was on sale for and my 18 year old self who had desperately wanted a real Gibson for my whole guitar playing life and so I jumped at the chance with some reluctance because of the p-90 which I hadn’t ever had a chance to try and had decided that because they’re single coils and I had a bad experience with a fender Strat that was my first real high end guitar and not knowing that enter sand man wouldn’t ever sound right out of my solid state vintage brand amp and the 3 single coil pickups in my Strat weren’t going to give me what I was looking for so years passed without me ever even considering the possibility of other pickup types anyways long story short after trying them out with an open mind I found that even through a cranked Marshall jcm2000 TSL half stack that they aren’t as noisy as I had assumed and it’s only a problem if you stop playing without switching to the bridge pickup or shutting off the volume… and yes the BFG came with a kill switch stock but the kill switch is awesome for stuttering effects and such but allows a lot of background noise to pass through at least on my guitar…. It’s such an amazing combination that I’m currently deciding on which HB sized p-90 I wanna put into my 94 LP studio it’s already been drilled for a mini toggle switch between the pots so the Seymour Duncan P-Rails sounds like an amazing option but I’m not sure if it’s going to give me the p-90 tone that I’m after…. There is something about a yellow LP Special with P-90s. It is just right.
one of my favorite guitar designs!
Greg and I were both from the 90's music scene in Milwaukee. I love that guy! Pounding Gristle
Looks like you need to get a Gibson SG Special to slap some of those in.
I have these pickups in the Reverend Gristle 90, and they are KILLER! By the way, for those worried about the battery - it goes like 300 hours between charges (yeah, that's not a typo, 300) so... yeah.
My SG has the same 9v from 5 years ago when I installed my Modern.
Great example, Bad Religion plays everything on juniors so... I just used a half a cheap humbucker with no magnet or pole pieces as a dummy coil and taped it to my guitar where it wasn't in the way, no noise...
The instant you started jamming out some Bad Religion, I nearly squealed aloud! That sounded great!
These indeed sound amazing! I have a SD quarter pounder in the bridge of my jazzmaster and the throaty low mids with that tele like high end "twang" is just unrivaled. Great vid and props to Fishman for the voicing options.

Greg "Tonemaster" Koch is a modern day les paul....changing the game with every new thing they produce.
Not to mention those Koch "Greg" Amps...expensive as hell, but the best amp I've heard on TH-cam

You got that guitar cause of Gordy Lewis of Teenage head didn’t you 👀 didn’t you!! Lol
Fluff over here dropping American Jesus on us with no warning
Love the sound! And I dig the sneaky Bad Religion riff..
I put Mojotone noiseless P90s in my Epi LP Special. Love them, but curious how they compare.
I love my Fluence Open Cores... I have the same Epiphone, was thinking about pickup swaps. Nice timing Fishman!!!
Nice demo on these, Thanks!
That Epiphone actually comes with some great sounding pickups !
Epi p90s are good stand in for Gibbby 90s, so, you are correct.
But if you like gain, and 90s, the Fluences are the deal.

Very nice !!! And nice you are digging the epi !!
American Jesus here and on the Flagship review :O ? I mean i NEED more :) Great video
Please, being active are they louder than regular P90s ? Why are they active, because of switching property or for boost like EMGs ?
That guitar with a vintage Plexi is one of my favorite tones. Love the filth of P90’s
Shocked he didnt do "Jessies Girl" when he went single coil. FYI. He didnt need an excuse to get another guitar, hes just glad he has one now

So where does the battery go?
3:08 riff?
Bad Religion - American Jesus
So glad to see and hear this, because I'm waiting on a shipment of that very Epiphone model and am planning on getting a set of these.
I'm amazed at the tone you can get out of that Special! Doing some real justice to Bad Religion! Stay cool, Fluff!
Does Epiphone have a Special model with these installed?
For p90 tones, you missed Geordie Walker from Killing joke. They get some sick down tuned tones from a p90

Greg is an absolute beast on the fiddle
I’ve been waiting on these since before the pandemic because a friend at Fishman let it slip that they were coming
Last year I got my first guitar with P90s. As of now? I have five.😅😁
If these deliver that same “bark” with no noise?! I’m all in!

Fender Noventa Jazzmaster loaded with these bad boys. My goodness.
I'm not ashamed to say it'' I've always loved the Koch'' It sounds good
Would it be possible to mount these into a Fender Jazzmaster?
No. Jazzmaster pickups are not P-90's and the routes are different size and also very shallow, making them incompatible.
@@SerpentsBane1995 I thought that was the case, thank you!

Already wanted his T style fishmans... now I need both lol
Do you know if the covers come off so they could be used with dog ear covers? I have an Epiphone casino that could use some new pickups.
Those pickups -- are they stock in that guitar, or did you install them in there?
Now, those are fishmans that sound good!
Not worth demoing voice 3?
Those sound great. Greg Anderson uses p90’s in Sunn O))) so they definitely can get super heavy.

Yeah, I need a set those pickups! They sound fantastic.
Awesome!! I love P90's but just when the tone gets knarly here comes the the feedback hum.
Nice! I was looking for new pickups for this guitar. Great sound! I think I should upgrade my SG Special as well!
Love it! And the nod to Bad Religion!! Lol
love that epi!!!
I want to hear those pickups in a Tele.

So, it's been 12 days since your last one. Are you not doing Ridiculous Reverb Listings anymore?
this is awesome, dude
Noiseless P90s... mmmm... sounds like a great, great idea!
Would be nice if I could get his bridge PU from his tele set and the neck PU from this set.
The Late, Great Leslie West used P-90s. Never in my life is a riff fest🔥🔥
Mountain! Hell yeah
sounds like billy talent!
Dog ear versions available?
Sound Clip 2 and the BR cover thing are some of the best tones I've heard on your channel. I really wanted to hear the American Jesus bridge though, just to hear the palm mutes in the mix.
id like to compare them with the original p90s in my 1971 sg deluxe special..(the ones with the gibson logo emossed in the covers)
I love P-90 pickups. These new "Gristletone Pickups" sound REALLY good !!!
I got a set installed today everyone, and they’re in fact, awesome (duh). Love P90’s. The 3 voicings are really neat too. Can’t wait to hear them layered in a mix.
Plot Twist: Fishman has been ghost manufacturing Reverend's pickups that you cannot buy singly and sound *amazing*
Is this true?
First the singles, then the p90s...makes me wonder if there'll be a Greg Koch humbucker rolling out at some point in the future.
So glad they're selling them outside the guitar now!!!!
But, does it djent?
if they can make a set for humbucker in bridge and p90 in neck it would be an instant buy for me

You think they'll have this in dog-ear format? Or if there is a way?? 🤔🤔
I want a set of those pickups.
I could see Fluff ordering a custom pickguard for a Stingray to drop a set of these in there.
Axis super sport with p90s would be cool to see with these pickups
