What do you guys think of the Surface Pro OLED?
Yup, Sound like this is the perfect companion for a corporate life. On my way to the Microsoft website for purchase. Nice review, very informative & enjoyable. Arigatou!!
Too much expensive
@@noverians.5945 You're very welcome! I'm glad I could help and thanks for your time
I think it's a great device, but way too pricey. I would opt for a Surface Laptop instead.
I have and I love it. There's absolutely "grain" on very white content when you look closely. As I understand it's a mix of the OLED display and the digitizer. But it's not bothering me really, I know others dislike it.
Probably the best webcam i've seen in a laptop.
HP Spectre x360? 4K Webcam
@@tristanwalls6266they could put an 8k webcam and it'll still be hot ass because x86 is just dog with webcams
Probably what's matter isn't the resolution, it's the quality and algorithm itself based on my thought...
@@reynoldsbrosky3427 yup its all about the sensor, resolution is meaningless nowadays.
its the lens
It needs a $500 price cut.
Just wait a year.
The base price is $999… He’s saying $2k with add ons
Now that's a good webcam for sure.
I was an early adopter with the Surface Pro years ago and I like the form factor, but these days I like what I'm seeing with the new Surface laptop.
New surface laptop is great too! Working on the review. Stay tuned.
@@MatthewMoniz Looking forward to it!
@@MatthewMonizwhat is a better buy the m4 iPad Pro 13 with Magic Keyboard or the surface pro 11 with non Bluetooth Keyboard?
@@Johnmims65I would go with the Surface if you’re trying to replace a laptop. I love my M1 iPad Pro but there are so many basic things that it can’t do that Windows and macOS can.
That's easy. Do you need software that is not available on the iPad? Do you have a capable laptop already?
What are you going to use them for?
Media consumption, browsing the web, light gaming, etc?
THAT WEBCAM!!
Microsoft has perfected the laptop-tablet hybrid. This thing rocks.
I am usng used surface pro 4 16 gb ram 512 ssd version, the only problem with that is the battery drain issue. It randomly dies like crazy
3:10 I'm sorry for yelling at you the other day 😅🙏 you're still one of my favorites.
Im still seeking therapy and have not recovered. Because you yelled at me I have started drinking and have lost my family
@@MatthewMoniz Lol :)))
Okay now we need a Studio/Setup tour please 😁
The new M4 iPad also has the OLED grain issue. It’s highly visible in greys specifically. Blacks look great, other colors as well but OLED can’t handle greys due to how OLED pixels create color.
Hmmm. I’m writing this reply on my M4 iPad Pro and I’m not seeing it. If you actually own one and you are suffering with a screen door effect, then I would say you should return it and get a new one. Should still be under warranty!
Yeah, I noted that in my now returned iPad Pro M4. It wasn’t that bad though.
$1700 is too expensive for this surface pro! This is a solid $1,200 machine. This high price is only gonna hurt their sales.
Great video Matt, what form do you like more, Pro 11 or SL7
Im torn! Im working on the SL7 review. Stay tuned
Thrilled to hear that you love the haptic touchpad, which is powered by Sensel's haptics technology!
Matthew, what is the program you are drawing on with the Surface Pen in the video? Excellent video! I love my new SP 11 Elite!
Thank you!! It’s OneNote
I use the SQ2 Surface Pro, which is good enough for what I do. That is office stuff, browser work and media consumption. I have the base with 8GB of RAM. I have to use it on performance mode 24/7 so battery life is only about 7-8 hours, but as an ultrabook, it is okay.
So, I can imagine these will be great for people like me, though the price will be the deal-breaker for non-Surface Pro hardcore fans.
This is my first "laptop" in 12 years, and i have zero regrets. we are finally going in the right direction. this device is the first step to the future of "Mobile PCs." Ball is in your court, Apple M4 Chip.
The webcam man... Its insane. I really want microsoft to give it a 65watt support. 39is pretty weird, 65 wouldn't have pushed too much but would have some extra juice for the sudden spike in performance you need.
They were trying to make sure it had enough battery because if it had worse battery people would have crucified them for that
They really amped the performance and battery life so the teeny charger was necessary.
What happens if you just attach a more powerful power supply? Or is the performance of the processor locked?
The camera and mic are awesome
39w is it an improvement? like before sp11 it uses 65w charger
Hi Matthew Moniz! I love your videos and am a huge fan of your presentation method. Can you review the new HP Pavilion Plus (2024) 16-ab1000na Laptop - Core Ultra with RTX 4050!
I'm confused. Why are you talking about the charger only being 39W as if it's like the TDP limit of the SOC and limits the performance? Or am I misunderstanding it? 😅
Usually with a bigger charger you get a higher TDP. The X Elite processors have the capability of hitting 80W that's just not happening with a 39W adapter. I talk about power as I feel its easier for people who don't know what TDP is to understand. Hope that makes sense!
Hi Matthew, what happens if I hook it up to a Surface Dock or a higher watt charger?
I was wondering that too. I have a Surface Book 2 charger I use with all my other Surfaces (100w). Wonder if it makes a difference.
nothing same performance.
I loved that you reviewed Overwatch until I noticed you were playing Orisa loll
is there any way for this to run android apps (even using emulation)? since this is arm based as well.
Great review as usual.
Regarding battery life, which one drains it faster: LCD ou OLED?
I would assume the LCD, because of the nature of these technologies
Thanks! LCD for sure
Emulation is the gaming I plan to be doing on this, it runs dolphin like a dream with that cpu. Can’t wait til ryujinx gets ported to windows on arm
I've always seen the surface pro as not being too hot. My surface pro 7+ with the 11th gen i7 stays cool under light loads and when things get heavy, yes it does spin up relatively loud when compared to my MacBook Air. But, one of the benefits, and why I've loved them for so long, is because of the way it's laid out, if I'm doing heavy work on my lap it's not hot enough to burn my skin.
IDK this thing looks pretty good tho and I'd get rid of my M2 air for one of these
Thanks for confirming the screen has a screen door effect. I have been looking all over the internet to see if mine was faulty and you have proved it is not. I really wanted to like this machine and it is great but I cannot live with the screen. There are some situations where it looks like Windows 95. Keep up the good work ✌️
No problem 👍 Thanks for watching!
Is it that bad?
So not in the X plus?
@@christianr.5868 the screen looks amazing when watching content but I’m a designer and I work on a white screen a lot with text. For this, it looks really bad to me. When you are adjusting some Windows settings (device manager) the screen door makes it looks really dated like there’s not enough colours. I compared the same pdf on my Mac and the Surface and there is no comparison. Mac is sharp and white and Surface simply cannot display white. Such a shame, would have been perfect otherwise.
@@ScottBoyd I’ve got a Surface 9 Pro and I never noticed a problem with the non OLED screen.
Overall for photo and light video editing would this device be sufficient?
there is usually a sticker underneath the hinged stand
This is my dream companion pc!
They need to make a 15 inch version of this thing, and one with the Intel Ultta & Arc chipset.
im wondering, hows the effect with thunderbolt egpu function well or not?
Can you do full comparison against hp specture 360?
Am I the only use that uses surface devices to code/program?
Every review mentions drawing, photoshop, that's all good. But I haven't found one review/channel yet that tested Visual Studio and other developers tools...
Specially someone developing apps/websites that are used with Touchscreen (either desktop, mobile app or a webpages), it's very useful to have a powerful touchscreen laptop.
I just dont develop so I only run a mozilla firefox compile test. Let me know exactly what you want me to test and Ill put it in my Surface Laptop review.
You might want to check Alex Ziskind's latest video where he goes through the process of setting up a new Surface Laptop for development, including Visual Studio, Python and Docker (although I see one of the chapters is "Oops, Can't do that on an ARM machine). I'm certainly interested in seeing what state the Surface Pro is in once more of the tools I work with are available for it.
Know of a VPN that will work on this device? I recently purchased the pro 11, but I'm not finding much in the way of vpns with arm64 support. Otherwise I LOVE the 11 pro!!
Not yet, no drivers yet. But they’ll come
8'o that webcam is crazy good .....what people were saying about that snapdragon webcam processing is true
Could you please review the entry level surface pro lcd variant and compare it with OLED one.
Deleting the Surface app fixes the keyboard connectivity issue. No idea why, but it works!
Good to know! will give it a try
my issue with this form factor is how uncomfortable it is when using it on your lap or trying to carry it one handed when you're in a call, with the keyboard flapping about.
The usb-c cables that jut out of the side of the display also really trigger me.
The surface pro 11 supports 65-watt fast charging. I think they give us 39 in the box because since the battery life is great, we will probably only charge it overnight, so 39 watt is perfectly fine. Anyway, great review : )
IT supports it but it won't give you anymore performance that's the whole point. Surface Laptop comes with a 65W charger in the box has better performance and its cheaper. Thanks for taking the time to watch it!
How much again? 😮
Are you going to make a video about surface laptop 7?
Yup! Working on it
Personally I just got the surface laptop studio 2 for school bc the form factor is just to good
I've already ordered one, should be here any day now. I did not realize Google Drive isn't currently supported. Yikes.
Ya its a Google issue. Not a translation problem
The most impressive thing for me was the camera XD it was very good compared to most laptops
The camera is great!
Im supporting it its good
you have to be paranoid and activily searching to see that screen door effect
Microsoft is doing great by adopting new things Copilot Ai chat gpt, Arm based from Snapdragon and tablet with full blown windows I always thought apple ipad should have MacOS but they always used ipad OS which is Extended version of IOS for Iphones
do you think the 32gb ram is necessary?
For this no 16 is fine
@@MatthewMoniz Thanks, great channel and review 👍
Since it’s launch, I haven’t been convinced by the surface pro, stopped following it’s news and today i come to see the exact same thing, a device that tries hard to beat the iPad but fails miserably, 40-50% more expensive, less powerful, runs a desktop version (oh wow but many apps are not supported or can be handled by the processor), so it kindda fits between a laptop and a tablet but never satisfy you as one of them, the strongest point about iPads are the point that everyone criticizes Apple for which is running a tablet OS rather than a desktop OS, but in reality it never says no to anything on that OS, it runs all apps perfectly and lasts for 5-6 years (which i doubt surface pro will) while giving u the same experience without compromises.
I’m getting that $999, the keyboard is a kick in the nutz for that price. Eventually. For now just the pen and my already existing usb keyboards.
is there a way to install Android on it? I just wondering what will happen
No not right now and probably not
If only it was cheaper. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
It’ll go down in price in time 👌🏾
given its windows, it won’t be long before price drops so i’ll be waiting for those
Usually what's the trend of the price drop? Around 6 month?
This with lunar lake or strix point better
Imagine saying something that doesn't exist is better
@@MatthewMonizreal lmao 😂
Not with battery life or standby time. Never seen standby time this good with an x86 chip.
Crisp webcam without the stupid notch - take my money MS ❤
Screen door effect. The only thing that kept me away from touch laptops will keep me away from Surface tablet too.
Not all of them have it. I have the Lenovo Slim 7x, and its OLED touchscreen does not suffer this problem.
Can it run x86?
Re keyboards, here's my tip as a long-time Surface Pro X user. If the stylus is not a must, go with another BT kbd. For instance, Apple's magic kbd gives that apple notebook feel to the Surface Pro. And kbd is the same width as the Surface Pro, which means you can pack it niftily with the Surface Pro when on the go. Needless to say, you can use your BT kbds with any other BT-capable computer in the house. So I always save from Surface Pro keyboards by just not buying them.
does the surface magnetically attach to the magic keyboard
@@godboat. No, it's always detached. The only kbds the Surface Pro attaches to are the Surface Pro keyboards.
3:29 Don't play Valorant anyway. Vanguard is a rootkit anyway.
anyway
@@mit6089 It is though. And it's cringe quality.
can you make a review of the surface laptop 7? 😀😀
Already working on it!
Kickstand, full Windows 11, OLED touchscreen, ARM with NPU… RIP iPad “Pro”.
iPad Pro is only suitable if you are high up enough that you don’t have to do any work at all. And students playing pocket billiards.
$2200.00 is CRAZYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
windows will continually release updates .. and imrprove its performance ..
Snapdragon X Elite ❤❤
If you believe the inbox power adapter is not powerful enough, why didn't you bench the system with a higher power adapter? USB-C is USB-C...
I tried! It made no difference. Its capp'd in the firmware to run at a certain power so it doesn't overheat.
Don't know why but laptop brands are shifting to tidal teal colour
I like it
Just wow laptop.
Does it still suffer from the software webcam issues of other surfaces?
No. Usability fixed on mine. Received it Monday 🎉
The first gen of Snapdragon Processor is like M1 chips, they were OK but you know what? we are on M4 Gen and they are awesome, they deserve to be bought. I think you should wait for 2 years for Gen3 or Gen4 of Snapdragon processors and then try these surface, still, they are so expensive and overpriced.
Fair enough, in an ideal world, but many people, including companies are at their upgrade cycle point and need to buy now. It makes a compelling case all these SDX processor devices... just the compatibility that's a question mark. Hmmm... go safe with Ultra or future proof (potentially) with SDX. Tough choice.
Corsair's latest 2230 sized 2TB SSD claims 7000MB/s reads 6200MB/s writes and should fit right in to this.
Other recent Surface Pro models were shown to be able to dissipate around 30W so I'm not surprised that a higher wattage adapter only gets you faster charging and not more performance.
That being said, the XE80 could give you good benefit in short running tasks rather than long ones. As then it can use more power before the temperature increases. So increasing snappiness and responsiveness rather than on some 30 minute compile. I work a lot on projects that compile in less than 30 seconds so I might see more benefit.
if they went with the ryzen 9 8945HS im and capped it at 20w it would perform slightly worse on the cpu then dominate every gpu task and be native x86 architecture and im sure the battery life wouldn't be much different... and stil do all that ai crap - just my 2 centz
Battery life would be worse when actually using hte laptop and you'd have louder fans. I think they made the right move.
Waiting for more apps to support I’m ready to replace my dumbest iPad Pro m1
Webcam🔥🔥
If only Linux worked on this thing... (I don't like Windows and Surface devices generally need a special version of the kernel to get newer Surfaces to have the cameras work.)
Support will be there by next year. I bought in advance just to have a laptop, but I am eagerly awaiting Linux support myself.
So you don’t like the Apple Pencil because the iPads glass screen?
I never said i dont like. I just prefer the Slim Pen 2
Strange as most pro digital artists are not overly keen on Microsoft's own pen hardware/software. I suppose each to their own.
@@andyH_England Im not an artist and thats probably why I prefer the Slim Pen 2. I just write. That little haptic vibration is a nice touch. But ya if i was an artist id probably choose an iPad since it has more features and apps.
@@MatthewMoniz Yes, you gotta go with what works best for you.
Change your benchmark test methods
To what?
@@MatthewMonizmy bad I accidentally skipped approx 2:18 to 3 😅 and I not noticed
@@MatthewMonizAlso, try to include any other X elite models like the with high TDP benchmark tests if you have already tested them.
Eh, really expensive laptop that won't run all my apps. We're almost there, but not quite.
if only ms maes its OS more lean and mean without all the telemetry collection spyware and bloatware which bogs down the hardware ..
If the surface pro oled can use a ryzen cpu like 8845h then will be perfect🥲
Sure if a third of the battery life and 55dB of fan noise is OK...
@@cpufrost Its more like 2/3 for AMD. It really depends on what you do with it. Personally, I cannot use ARM for now because Linux doesn't really work very well with these new Qualcomm SoCs at the moment. Maybe in a year, two, or three, things will change. But yeah, try the Minisforum V3.
Were you hacked on pc? Dang!
I've been through Identity theft and its not fun
@@MatthewMoniz This is why I stay with Macbook. Not really 100% secure, but it is at least better than Windows.
You actually can run Adobe Premiere Pro on it cause I have already. You have to install it on an x86 machine and copy the root folder over to the ARM Surface. It works on Premiere Pro 23, but I couldn't get 24 to work. It runs pretty well too.
Yes I know you can I show it in my Vivobook review but they pulled it from the store. It’s a terrible experience. Best to wait for the arm version
just if ms makes their software more lean and mean without all the telemetry and unnecessary bloat and spyware ..
Just me or the shot is a teeny bit crooked?
I didnt notice until now. Thanks for the heads up. Ill fix it.

Those who want a gaming laptop
-They can buy whatever device they want and get a used xbox series s for very low price
Xbox remote play isn’t a substitute for real portable gaming imo. Gaming laptops are generally shit. So I’d recommend an ultrabook and a Steam Deck.
@IceBlueLugia
1. For portability, there's a portable display designed for Xbox-S
2. Gaming laptops are too expensive actually, you can get a laptop and steamdeck/switch for the same price
@@flloouy That "portable" Series S thing is not portable in the slightest lmfao. As for the second point, yeah, that's what I'm saying
@@IceBlueLugia
I have a heavy Razer blade gaming laptop
With heavy bulky charging brick
I don't see difference compared to xbox
@flloouy Yep, both of those sound like shit for daily driver devices I'd take around with me. That's why I recommended an ultrabook and the Deck. Then you can bring the latter with you if you know you'll have free time.
Sorry, but at over $2000 they shot themselves in the foot. They completely overpriced themselves out of the market.
at that price i rather get an new M4 Ipad (which its also overpriced). things its not looking good for both apple and microsoft to be honest, in this kind of econnomy you should push for more affordable pc but NO, they double down on this madness
Very very expensive and the keyboard is not included for the price. I feel like the surface laptop makes more sense for the money. (But would be nice to see a surface pro desk setup)
I'm cool with the keyboard not being included since you can choose a cheaper one but yes the price of the tablet itself is very expensive.
I wish the new surface laptop came with an OLED screen. Perhaps it will with the next generation.
I mean it starts out at the same price as an iPad Pro and yet has a full fat operating system and not some cheesy iOS that can’t do half the things a real operating system can do. A fully spec iPad Pro also cost over 2 grand. I’d much rather have this device if I was choosing between the two.
@@Jrfeimst2 Two wrongs do not make a right--never have and never will. Both are overpriced, and bringing Apple up is just looking for puny excuses. No one should buy this at this price (ditto the iPad) unless they can afford it. Best wait for 6-9 months, and these should dumpster-dive in price.
@@Jrfeimst2 Right, you get way more value with the Surface, and there are other options on the keyboard and pen. Plus, most Surface fans already have an SP 8+ keyboard and pen at this point, so they can just buy the tablet.
Ya, most people buy Surface because they want to use Microsoft Office and not editing videos like Mac.
way too freaking expensive 😂
they need like 3 usbs + remove the fan for more compact design and weight reduction
Thanks for sharing.
More expensive than a MacBook Air M3 and with less power, ugh. Laptops with Snapdragon X processors are the worst compared to Apple MacBooks.
Surface pro and laptop both start at $999 with double the ram and expandable storage
But then you have to use MacOS...
“Once it’s working it’s a flawless experience” like what lol
Why back the blue when the blue doesnt back you?
😂😂
Maybe they'd back you if you backed them
that screen reflection is really annoying😢
seeing macbook air beating it just tells me its not worth it
It’s a 2 in 1 and that alone makes it worth it for me over a MacBook
It is too expensive for what it is. Should be around 1000-1100USD.
It starts at $999.
In that case the iPad Pro is too expensive given that it is just a tablet.
The price is the killer. If it was $200-$300 i may consider it but nah. The Minisforum tablet seems more appealing tbh. Plus AMD Strix Point laptops are coming out in July. Best to wait and see because price is the real differentiator here.
Let me know how many $200-$300 strix laptops you find
I bought the Surface Pro OLED this week. There are no performance issues; it is extremely powerful. However, its screen is grainy and looks terrible. Compared to my MacBook OLED, it is unbelievably bad. From my research on Reddit, it appears that everyone has this issue. This means that the OLED product has a problem, but reviewers are either being paid off or are visually impaired and don't notice. It's really sad that no one mentions this horrible screen
Yes, i see the demo unit it look like 256 color screen 😅
