Adding anchovies to tomato sauce takes it up a level without detection. …a great “secret ingredient” Marinate sardines in a little vinegar for a few minutes cuts the fish taste. Mashing and mixing them with some mustard is good as well. 😊
Er, create a salad. Add tuna or sardines with it? 🥗 Crush them up & use instead of olive oil as a dressing (if you’re squeamish)? Think of these foods as live-giving. The more of these foods you eat, the longer you’ll live. Plus PURPLE FOODS. I guess that will be another episode?
I actually use the sardines in pasta dishes. I love sardines; I sometimes eat them for breakfast or lunch with garlic, drizzled with lemon juice, and hot sauce. 😊
Unfortunately, I don’t like sardines, and only like certain white fish to eat. I can also do the white chunk canned tuna. Are these good subs instead of sardines?? I just can’t eat them! 😞 Also, what do you think of the orange flavored omega-3 oil you can get in the packets to supplement?
This is a great intro to the Med lifestyle. I’ve incorporated all of what you’ve listed here into my daily meal preps, including sardines. For those afraid of these little fish as I was initially, it has the texture of tuna and the taste is not even close to being as overwhelming that you’d expect. Skinless and boneless might be best for a first try, and then you can move up the ladder to pop them into your mouth as they come out of the ocean. Spend an extra buck for the top brands and packed in EVOO.
In reading the comments I am amazed at how many people don't eat sardines! I guess my dad introduced them to us as kids way... way back and so they are just something I can eat when I think of it. I use anchovies in making a few dishes, such as Caesar salad dressing and Shrimp Fra Diavolo. Eggplant I have tried a few times but just don't like it. I realize that I am one of those people that needs recipes. I worry that I will buy stuff and have it go to waste because I don't know what to do with it.
This is the video *I* asked for! 😎 Anchovies - top Chefs use these (blitzed) instead of salt to season recipes! I’m in my fifties. I had ‘liver spots’ on my hands & arms. After a month of following this (plus a mouthful of extra-virgin olive oil [EVOO] mornings & evenings), they have honestly disappeared. It might sound gross to start with, which is why discussions on the taste spreads to your closest ones. Within a month, people you know will be sharing their benefits with you (except the visible). PURPLE FOODS? Walnuts? I did ask for this Starter vid, I guess I’m just showing my love for your longevity-giving videos! 😊
@sirloin8745 the closest I could get was baby Northern eels on a salad. I figured it would be a salad with a few baby Northern eels sprinkled across it, and it was 114° in Spain that day. I was wrong. Three pieces of lettuce and about a pound of baby Northern eels 😦

The only ones I don’t eat (yet) are sardines and anchovies. I want to want to eat them but just not there yet. I’ve started eating mackerel recently and have enjoyed it so there’s hope😅. I love garlic but often default to the powdered version because it’s easier. Is there evidence on whether it’s equal to/less than the fresh from? Thanks for your common sense approach to teaching us about nutrition.
I love cucumbers! I love tomatoes 🍅! I eat these almost weekly. I’m just trying barley which is amazing. I have tried sardines-my first can tasted like tuna. My second can was way too fishy and I love fish. I have one more can to try 🎉
@@annapleetmd I think my issue with sardines is that they’re usually pictured with head and tails on. That completely grosses me out and keeps me from trying them. Maybe I can find some not packed whole…
I eat everything except eggplant! How do I pick a good one in the store & cook it. Oh many times when I buy fresh bell pepper's they sre full of seeds can't even cut around them I usually have to throw it away, why? How do I pick good ones?
For eggplant - pick one heavy for its size that does not feel mushy from the outside. Bell peppers will always have seeds inside, just have to cut through it and gut it out a bit !
I've noticed something when I buy lemons and limes. Fruit flies appear out of nowhere! HOW do people around the Mediterranean deal with them?! It's annoying.
Yes, and no. As far as I understand, Farro is a more general term that refers to three types of ancient wheat: Einkorn, Emmer, and Spelt. So emmer is a type of farro, but farro is not necessarily emmer.

Welcome aboard !!!
Thanks for the list Anna. I grow my own heirloom tomatoes and I get a lot, when critters don’t get them first.
That's great!
I’m learning to eat sardines. Would love recipes.
Sorry, that was supposed to be "Spain on a Fork". Comment disappeared before I could edit

I live in the middle of the US where no one eats anchovies or sardines. I can't bring myself to eat them yet. I want to try farro soon.
I still can’t do anchovies but sardines now taste kinda like tuna to me. I just eat them straight out of the can, sometimes with crackers.
@@joyinthenw2652 I love farro. It’s one of my favorite grains. I need to make it more often.
I understand what you say - make changes that feel manageable for you, that’s what it’s all about!
great video Dr. Anna
Glad you liked it!

What a helpful list! Thank you! You’ve convinced me to try sardines😊
I'm so glad! Hope you enjoy :) let us know how it goes
@@annapleetmd I will😊
Out of all of these is eggplant that I can’t eat, I don’t like the flavour. Thank you for this video. Enjoyed this.
You’re so welcome, thanks for watching!
Fantastic information Dr. Anna!
Glad it was helpful!

I’m so glad to hear it! Thanks for being here and supporting the channel- it helps me make more and better videos !
I am still aprehensive with sardines and anchovies
Same! The heads! The bones! 🤢
No reason. They can easily be digested. The fish are tiny, they won’t stick in the throat!

What does sardines take like? I have been scared to try LOL. I love cucumbers and tomatoes with vinegar though, delicious!
That are a fishier fish but some say just like tuna!
Garlic enhances the flavor of food.
Yes absolutely!
What about the salt content in canned anchoevies and sardines?
Something to pay attention to! But if not consuming much added salt in diet otherwise, it’s still a healthy food with good benefits
Hi Anna
I looked for the video about the roast garlic, couldn't see it🤔
It’s in my roasted vegetables video- did you find it?
