- This is a longer version of my other video featuring the win of Media Puzzle in the 2002 Melbourne Cup.
One of the most emotional victories in the history of the Melbourne Cup saw Irish horse Media Puzzle win convincingly. It was emotional because Media Puzzle's jockey Damien Oliver lost his brother in a track incident a week before the cup. Media Puzzle beat home Mr Prudent and Beekeeper.
This video features footage from before the race, the race itself, and post-race footage including one of the most memorable winning interviews in the history of the Melbourne Cup.

You couldn't right this what a moment in sport and in life.
Came here after watching the movie, emotional stuff.
Watching this video, when they started to take the lead, two birds flew by right at that moment and I burst into tears. Made me feel like that was a sign from his brother, maybe, maybe not.
Great race.

Wayne Wilson a true legend, another piece of this story which adds to the emotion of the most famous of Melbourne cups. Damian, Dermot and the Puzzle unforgettable. As Damian said "always appreciate your loved ones".

My greatest moment in sporting history....Olly deserved it....I still get emotional every time I watch it,,,,and the all the other jockeys being genuinely happy for Oliver.....Great moment
Every jockey wants to win this race, but I don't think any of them would've begrudged Damien this one.
What a guy Damien Oliver is to be a winner on media puzzle and not only losing his brother to a race fall a week earlier but losing his father to a race fall as well when he was younger and to salute his brother at the winning post brings a heavy heart that beats faster and longer I sad to see a loved one go love Anthony Fed ex lol
I love this video its a lesson for everyone and for me. Life is too short theres no point waking up grumpy or getting into fights what for its not worth it. At the moment myself and my family are going through a rough patch and were sticking together and just appreciate each other
Damien Oliver was, and still is one of the best Jockeys in Australia.

People who criticise the caller seriously get a life. Il never forget Damian raising his arm to the sky. What a moment in time for racing in aus.

The caller is Wayne Wilson, he used to be the regular racecaller in Brisbane.
Well i loved the call he sounded great it had the excitement that you want in a call, sure he concentrated on Damien well fair enough I reckon.
If anybody was meant to win on that day it was him... Just had to be.. very emotional

I should say this is an emotional but also a little bit controversial call by Wayne Wilson. No matter what kind of thing this call is in your mind, he will surely be remembered. Sadly this voice can no longer be heard by all of us now since Wayne, the caller himself, died of cancer in June 2014. Rest in peace, as well as Media Puzzle, which was put down after breaking a leg in 2006 Ascot Gold Cup in Britain.

I remember sitting in my classroom at school we all picked a horse i was lucky enough to pick Media Puzzle Our family are massive fans of racing and I cried in front of everyone but I was worried it was a Beautiful moment in Australian Racing

This was the last Melbourne cup winner I've picked. Bloody hell, 9 cups without a winner. Lucas Cranach will do it for me this year.
You know, it kind of inspires me how some people just get through life in spite of some really hardships. There's a few good inspirational stories out there, but this has got to be right up there along with a British jockey called Bob Champion, diagnosed with cancer, fought through it, entered the Grand National on a horse that was set for the knackers yard...... race is over 4 miles long, over some of the biggest fences you'll ever see, I'm not going to tell you the result, but they were gambled into being the favourite in the race......... and the bookmakers got taken to the cleaners, think it was 1981 Grand National if you have a look

An emotional victory. And it's a pity that Media Puzzle was put down after shattering one of his legs in Ascot Gold Cup 2006.

I've just seen this for the first time because I was at Eagle Farm races when on that day. Yes Wayne Wilson should have called the place getters as they went over the line but otherwise it was an excellent call and Wayne was always a theatrical caller and this was a very theatrical result.

I'm a little bit surprised that the race call in this year's Cup was regarded as a rubbish. I had thought that it was okay before seeing your comments on the video. Anyway, now I have learnt a lesson that many things are not as easy as I had expected. Therefore I have to take anything I face to seriously.

If this was for a national audiance then I'm not surpised. Here in the states NBC uses Tom Durkin for calling it's races even though he works for NYRA.

Great moment but a terrible call. unprofessional the get so caught up in the winner and forget the rest of the field
Yes, Wayne was one of Australia's best ever callers but the moment got the better of him here. From just inside the 300m mark he goes 30 seconds without mentioning another runner and people had no idea who was running on for the places.
