I probably should have mentioned this at the start rather than the end of the video but this is currently (19 Nov '21) only available from the Japanese eShop. However, Qute Games have said there will be a western release for sure and that it will come 'soon'.
awesome review! are the menus of the Japanese release in Japanese only?
PLAY ESCHATOS
After the 360 mostly dominating the console side of shmups I thought that nearly all would’ve been trapped on that machine forever… Amazing to see most of them cross over to the last two gen of consoles in some form or another. Hopefully more will become interested in the genre so we keep getting them released on this side of the pond!
Eschatos is CRAZY good. My favorite 360 shmup after Mushihimesama Futari Black Label. I originally thought it looked a bit crap, but people kept raving about Judgement Silversword. Man, absolutely THREE gems in one package. The moment when you launch into space and soar amongst the stars is one of THE best videogame moments. Eschatos feels like a game that spans the entire breadth of the shmup genre. Will 100% be double dipping when a physical drops. Just an absolute, all-time, no holds barred banger of a game.
Yes, my thoughts when I first played it too! Even the soundtrack I thought sounded a bit too chirpy at first. Didn't take me long to realise how great it is though since I couldn't put it down.
I hope this gets a physicallll, if crimson clover and rolling gunner got one. This re release surely can too

@@daveunknown01 A month or so ago. Check first press games, they ran out of super ultra collectors editions, but normal and normal collectors editions are still available :p

First press games will most likely release a physical for this game. They’ve already released Natsuki Chronicles and Ginga Force physically for PS4. Theses games are developed by Qute.
Just as a head's up, there's a free demo for the Steam version, if anyone wants to try it out.
It's cool how 3D this game is, despite having 2D movement. It gives off a sense of joy and excitement with all its intense camera angles and panning shots. I'd love to see more of that!
It is super cool. It would be cool if more games did it and got it right too, but...I think it's probably very, very hard to get right.
The soundtrack of Yousuke Yasui its one of the most beautiful works Ive heard in my life, Silver Lining and Massive X are GREAT introductions of the music.

I've been playing this on Steam a lot lately. Incredible game, and that score is entirely deserved. The entire game being one single cinematic journey from Earth to the Moon without compromising on anything else about the experience is mind blowing, along with the way it balances accessibility and insane challenge if you want it. And I also have been listening to the OST pretty much daily... Let's just say it's easy to get fixated on Eschatos.
Any news on when it releases in the western e-shop?
No specific date, but Qute did say 'soon'.

one of my favorite shmups ever. glad the port has some extras to it and that the stage transitions are even more seamless.
I take it this is only a Japanese e-shop release? I was so excited when I saw this video, and then I went to the e-shop and… nope not there 😢🤣

Eschatos is a amazing game with a kick arse sound track and i glad they included Judgment silver sword and cardinal sin both amazing in there own right, its a great package and well worth the money and even tho i have it on steam and xbox 360 i will proberly end up buying the switch version i am a very silly man lol.
Is this the best shmup on the Switch? I've only played Danmaku Unlimited 3 and Sky Force Reloaded but enjoy both for different reasons.
I'm sure Limited Run Games will be all over this

If it had to get picked up for limited physical release, I'd hope for Strictly Limited. Then there's at least the tiny chance ININ would sell it as a reasonably accessible release later on.

Got this and i had no idea that it came with Judgement Silversword and Cardinal Sins well worth the money all three are fun as hell but Eschatos is mind-blowing i can't get passed level 18 lol
When playing on TATE mode can you choose whether to rotate the controls or not?
I never knew this game existed until now. This is such a hidden gem that I'm DAMN PROUD I purchased. I really dig the energetic soundtrack and epic cinematic presentation.
Thanks for the review! I was on the verge and it made me actually grab it. And I'm absolutely happy I did so. The game is really THAT good. Fantastic gameplay, great looks and some very original mechanics. A real shmup gem here!

Just got this game on switch and I have been loving it so far. I have completed it on easy and now the near the end of normal mode. I tryed out the modes and it's awesome. I like how they don't give you the lives and credits options right from the get go. You have to earn it by playing the game more and more. It's rewarding in that sense. I agree with the score to. Awesome game!
